“To extend yourself in kindness to anybody is an extension in kindness to the world.”
-Oprah Winfrey
Aang, the Avatar and Unifier of the World.
Aether, the Traveler and Fourth Descender of Teyvat.
Sealed away for countless years while the world moved on around them, what started with the quest to find their lost family evolved as they unravelled the mystical world around them. With a kind heart and gentle soul, they took up the responsibility of saving the world as the only one who could. Through all the wonderful nations, gathering each elemental power and finding friends and allies, stopping tyrants may be the crux of their journey, but nothing is more important than bringing hope, peace and happiness to the people of the world they love. When the Last Airbender and Fourth Descender come to blows in a DEATH BATTLE, though, only one can rise above the rest. Will the Avatar bend victory his way, or will Teyvat’s Witness make a deadly impact? Let’s find out!
Before We Start…
It should be made clear that despite the Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender movie being leaked online before its official release this year, we will not be including it as part of research for this blog. The prior leak was not fully finished, and in the time during this blog’s production, it has been announced that the movie will release ahead of the previous schedule on July 25th, right before this blog and the Aang vs Aether episode both come out. With mere hours between the movie’s release and having to watch it, consider any viable information, collectively discuss it, and then put that into this blog, the turnaround wouldn’t be feasible, and would be very stressful on an absurdly short timeframe.
We would also like to thank another user, Flip for helping us cover Avatar Legends, as due to the limited time between the game’s release and the release of this blog, we were more focused on finishing the rest of the blog first.
Additionally, as Genshin Impact is a Live Service game and is very much still receiving updates, our research will be limited to the recently released Version Luna VIII, Sunny Summer Fontinalia (and any trailers that get released during the wait period). The long-awaited Snezhnaya is right around the corner, and we’re super excited for its release, but anything from then on out we simply cannot account for. Furthermore, we are exclusively looking at Genshin Impact itself for this blog, not including the crossover with Honkai Impact 3rd or any references in Honkai: Star Rail. Discussions regarding cosmology and Genshin’s place within the greater Honkai series have their place, but none impact this battle, so we’ve elected to just stick with Genshin itself and the media directly related to it.
Aang
Background

“When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.”
Water. Fire. Earth. Air. In the world of Avatar, many are born with the ability to bend and control one of these elements at will, but only one is chosen by the spirit Raava to be the Avatar. 100 years ago, the Avatar was born as the airbender, Aang. Aang was born an air nomad, and for the first 12 years of his life, Aang was taught the ways of the air nomad. He learned many of his airbending techniques during that time. However, in an unprecedented time of peace, Fire Lord Sozin, in his kingdom’s unprecedented time of peace, launched an attack on the air nomads, intending to eliminate the Avatar. Yet, when the nomads needed him most, he vanished. Abandoning the temple out of fear of his responsibility, it wasn’t long until he and his Bison, Appa, were caught in a storm and fell into the Arctic of the south. Freezing over as his body fought to keep itself alive for the next 100 years.
100 years later, on a fishing trip gone wrong, heirs to the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka, came across Aang’s frozen body. Still alive. The siblings freed Aang, and right in time too, as the Fire Nation was about to attack, in search of the very same Avatar. It was a hard-fought battle to protect the tribe, and Aang even turned himself in, but when all was said and done, everyone escaped. From there, Katara and Sokka went along with Aang to help him master the elements and hopefully defeat the tyrannical Fire Nation. Lucky for them, Aang made friends easily, from squatters in the air temples to an old friend in Omashu. Team Avatar went all over the world, Aang learning waterbending along the way.
It wasn’t long before their journey brought them to the Earth Kingdom, and they met another member of their team, Toph Beifong, poised to teach Aang Earthbending; he initially struggled a lot to learn it. Air and Water were similar enough, but Avatars historically struggled with elements in opposition to their birthright, and Aang was no different. Regardless, Aang would eventually master Earthbending, but perhaps not soon enough, for in a battle below the city of walls, he was struck down by the lightning of Princess Azula. Ba Sing Se and the Earth Kingdom had fallen. If it wasn’t for Katara and her healing water, the Avatar would be no more as well.
Eventually, Aang had to learn firebending, but it was nearly impossible for the group to find one. Even in enemy territory, they were hardly able to find anything. Eventually settling at an Air Temple, and with the clock ticking, they found a teacher in the form of former Prince Zuko. It was a difficult relationship to foster, but eventually Aang learned, and so did Zuko. Together they learned the way of the original fire benders, and despite not mastering firebending, it would have to do, for Aang’s final battle approached.
Yet, Aang couldn’t face his final battle without first learning from his previous lives as the Avatar. And all of them gave him one simple goal: kill Fire Lord Ozai. But to bring the end of the Fire Lord would compromise his morals as an airbender. Aang was the last of his culture, the last nomad, the last airbender. Aang couldn’t take that, and he didn’t. He learned the final form of bending: Energybending. From the original bender, a Lion Turtle. On the day of Sozin’s Comet, Aang, uncompromising in his beliefs, took down the fire lord, removed his bending, and freed the world from the rule of the Fire Nation.
In the future, Aang would form Republic City, a meeting point between the four nations, and both he and his son, Tenzin, would teach the next Avatar.
Experience & Skill

Aang was a prodigy among air nomads, and often invented new techniques just to amuse his friends, and obviously he had no equal in airbending during his lifetime (we really hope we don’t have to explain why). Though more impressively, Aang can hold back the sheer force of what his airbending can really do; this can be seen during the time he had a sneezing fit, where his airbending launched him high above the trees. And while bending often requires movement to pull off specific techniques, Aang can fight on par with Fire Nation soldiers even with his body completely tied up. When it comes to waterbending, Aang matched Katara’s level of bending pretty much immediately, and while we don’t see Aang perform waterbending techniques like Katara bending plant life through their moisture, given their relative skill level (before factoring bloodbending), it can be assumed Aang is capable of something similar. Earth took time for Aang to master, but master it he did, even to the point where he was Earthbending in his SLEEP. Though it should be noted he never learned more advanced Earthbending variants like Metal Bending. Firebending was Aang’s greatest hurdle due to its destructive nature, but he’s shown to match Ozai’s skill in the Avatar State. Generally speaking, Aang’s greatest skill as a fighter is his innovation, showing plenty of unique ways to combine multiple elements at once. Not only can he come up with new techniques, but he can sometimes do so completely by accident.
Oh yeah, that Avatar State thing. The Avatar State is a unique form in the sense that Aang solidifies his connection to the spirits of Avatars before, giving him centuries of battle experience, possibly millennia. It should be noted that while we don’t know the exact play-by-play of the lifetimes of every Avatar, we do know a human lifespan in the Avatar world vastly beats out our own. Aang himself lived to be 165 years old (as his time in the iceberg did nothing to slow the process of aging in any form but visually). With that in mind, Aang’s Avatar state connects to 14 Avatars previously before him, all of which went on to master the four elements within their lifetimes, at least based on the ones currently focused on throughout the Avatar series.
Support
Momo

Momo was a wild sky lemur from the southern air temple. Team Avatar took the lemur in as a pet and loyal companion, despite Sokka’s insistence they eat him. Aang decided to name Momo after a peach it stole, and from there he was a loyal ally to the end. A devious little creature, his flight makes him very apt at flying on opponents’ heads and blinding them. Additionally, he particularly enjoys throwing small objects at people.
Appa

Aang’s loyal Sky Bison, the two instantly formed a bond for life back when Aang was a child. With a call of “Yip Yip!” Appa can take to the skies, flying surprisingly fast for his weight. That’s because Sky Bison were the original creators of Airbending, and Appa helped Aang and the gang through all their journeys, carrying people and cargo or whacking enemies with his tail.
Equipment
Airbender Staff

A special staff given to air monks that is made with airbending in mind. It comes with a glider, which Aang bends the air currents around for unrestricted flight. And of course, it comes with snacks.
Abilities
Bending

The ability to manipulate elements. As the Avatar, Aang can master all four elements: water, earth, fire and air, alongside the rare ability to bend energy itself. Because each elemental bending style is inspired by traditional Chinese martial arts, benders rely on their breath and the physical movements of their hands and feet to manipulate their elements. In some cases, bending can be done with minimal movement, such as when King Bumi bended the earth using only his head. In even rarer cases, benders as skilled as Aang can instead bend through sheer focus, if the situation requires it. Aang can bend elements even in his sleep.
Elemental bending is also dependent on a person’s chi, the vital life energy found in all living things which connects them to the universe. To bend a specific element, a person extends their chi outward to manipulate the environment. In battle, there are different choices and strategies to direct this energy, known as jing. According to King Bumi, there are eighty-five different types of jing, though the show primarily focuses on positive, negative, and neutral jing.
Additionally, chi can be gathered into concentrated pools known as chakras. For the Avatar, mastering these chakras and unlocking their flow was imperative to achieving their full potential.
Airbending

Being the Last Airbender means that by default, Aang is the best at it. Given his pacifistic nature, Aang often avoids using airbending offensively where he can, often focusing on knocking people off balance, transportation, or showing off cool tricks! But Airbenders after his time who are leagues below Aang in skill have found more disturbing ways to airbend, like suffocation. Obviously, not a technique Aang would go for, but something he technically has no reason not to be aware of, given his level of innovation and strategy.
Airbending is based on the real life martial art of Ba Gua Kung Fu, an art that requires extensive training; only makes Aang’s skill in it more honorable, as he was a master by the age of 12. Due to the esoteric lifestyles of the Air Nomads, it fit Aang like a glove, being able to utilise air in ways such as:
- Bending in into continuous streams and slashes
- Vortex and forcefield creation, along with using air to amplify their agility
- Making tornadoes
- Creating a ball of air Aang can ride called the Air Scooter
- Airbending can come from limbs, the mouth and the nose
- Creating and manipulating clouds of dust and smoke
- Airbending even when restrained by opponents, capable of causing gusts of wind by spinning in place
- Aang can amplify fire with airbending, recreating a power many mistake for the breath of a dragon
- Aang can create air balls to glide on, sometimes multiple at once
- Aang can reveal invisible items
- Airbending can enhance someone’s physical abilities and enable them to fight off multiple opponents at once
- Airbenders tend to hold back their strength by softening their blows when they can instead use highly pressurised bursts of power to crush or cut their enemies
Waterbending

The primary bending technique of the Water Tribe in Avatar. Being the Avatar allows Aang mastery of all four elements, the first of which we see is water. Being the least fatal of the four elements, it’s one of the ones we see Aang use the most. He was first trained in it by the old sage Master Pakku, and later learned more from his first friend and implied love interest Katara.
Waterbending is based on Tai-Chi; just like the original martial art, it shares the beliefs in the nine gates within the human body, basically having it flow alongside the water they bend. Water can be bent without being visible and can be bent from any source of water. This means oceans, lakes, rivers, pools, fountains, steam and even plants are fair game. Aang uses techniques that rely on slow stances and smooth and fluid movement to harness waterbending to give him abilities such as:
- Moving water in small streams
- Using water as whips to smack opponents
- Creating large tidal waves
- Bending the shape of clouds and rain
- Freezing water to create icy floors and walls
- Surfing across waves and sliding across ice and snow
- Trapping himself and enemies in ice
- Generating Ice armor around their bodies
- Healing through water contract
- Waterbenders can make protective ice balls in the water
Earthbending

The primary bending technique of the Earth Nation. Earth is a foundational element in the world of Avatar and one that Aang had to train very hard, alongside his mentor Toph, to master. Based on Hungar Kung Fu, Earthbending focuses on strong, low stances and compact movement. In Avatar, mastering earthbending requires mastery of Neutral Jing. Neutral Jing is a fighting principle that encourages doing nothing. While this may seem silly it helps the earthbender wait and listen for the perfect opportunity to strike at their foe.
Much like waterbending, earthbending enables the user to manipulate earth in any form it may take. Obviously earthbenders can bend dirt and rocks, but they can also bend sand and crystals as well. Earth can be bent by using the arms, legs or even by simply moving your head. Master earthbenders can also feel and shape the earth at extremely precise levels.
Earthbenders can launch dozens of small rocks, throw boulders and create landslides to attack foes with overwhelming force. Earthbending can also be used for entrapment, holding enemies by putting earth around them or by turning the ground below them into quicksand. Finally, earthbending has an incredible capacity for defense. Benders can create large stone walls to defend themselves from attacks and even fashion earth armor around themselves during battle. Aang specifically was capable of forming a large rock titan to do battle with.
Unlike water, earth is a much more dangerous element, capable of causing much more serious damage on a high scale with its attacks. They can also focus their power into a smaller chunk of earth to deal a powerful blow. This is because bending is powered through physical strength, making it very strong in the right hands. However, earthbending can tax the user’s body and even cause physical damage to them.
Firebending

The primary element of the Fire Tribe. This is easily the element it took Aang the most effort to conquer. Unlike the previous elements, firebenders are capable of manifesting fire into thin air, which they use frequently for attacks. Trained with the reluctant help of Master Jeong Jeong and, much later, The Fire Prince Zuko, Aang learned to master the most deadly element of all. That being said, due to Aang’s pacifistic nature, this is easily the element he is the least experienced in. However, that doesn’t prevent him from being proficient in common firebending techniques.
Firebending is based on Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Similar to earthbending, it focuses on strong stances, but it’s accompanied by explosive movements, aiming to break the opponent’s root. Firebending in Avatar focuses on powerful offense by creating blasts of fire from the limbs, mouth, nose or any nearby source. Its power comes from the user’s ability to concentrate and breathe, converting it into body energy. If a firebenders emotions are out of sorts, it can cause the fire around them to rise in a devastating way.
Firebending is mainly used to create fireballs, sweeping fire waves and sustained flame blasts. However, with a bit of skill, fire can take different shapes such as fire dragons, flaming daggers, large walls, bubbles and even be used as a form of jet propulsion to fly around the battlefield.
- Aang can combine Earth and Firebending to create a makeshift volcano and turn rocks into burning shrapnel.
- Aang can amplify his Firebending with Airbending, making the burst of fire so large and intense people mistook it as a Dragon’s Fire Breath.
- Fire can be redirected and used to the bender’s own desire, like a tornado.
- Firebenders have the potency to melt through metal doors from a young age
Lightning Redirection

While no Avatar has learnt lightningbending properly, Zuko taught Aang the ability to redirect lightning, an equally proficient ability. Taking inspiration in waterbending, the bender absorbs the electricity before channeling it in a more desirable direction, creating a pathway through both arms and the stomach. Aang used the technique against a Sozin Comet-powered Fire Lord Ozai; admittedly overwhelmed, but to be fair, it was also his first time performing the technique. In the middle of a power amp. Yeah.
Energybending

The rarest form of bending in the world of Avatar. Energybending is an ability held by a very select few, primarily consisting of the Avatars themselves. It is the ability to control another person’s life energy, and in practicality it enables a user to bestow or remove the ability to bend elements of another person. Its most relevant usage was in the final battle against Ozai in the finale of Avatar, in which, after a long fought battle, Aang overpowered and trapped Ozai, leaving him open to Aang’s energybending, with which he completely removed Ozai’s ability to firebend and was able to incapacitate him permanently.
It’s worth noting that there’s a common misconception that energybending can kill it’s target, this comes from this interview, however it only explicitly states the bending could’ve killed Aang, not Ozai.
Seismic Sense

Originally used by the badgermoles and taught to him by Toph, seismic sense allows Aang to detect vibrations through the ground. This basically acts as a “sonar”, allowing him to perceive people, objects, and movement in the environment without conventional vision. This can range from large chunks of earth to even the smallest colony of ants. Aang has been able to use this to successfully evade attacks from Katara and Toph during his blindfolded training, as well as counter Ozai’s attempt to strike him in the back during their battle at Wulong Forest.
Resistances

Benders, physically, are very similar to real life humans, and lack many specific resistances. However, they do tend to resist their own element, as best demonstrated by firebenders, and Aang can even regulate his own temperature with his Airbending, to resist extreme temperatures. Not to mention, an Avatar State-powered Aang managed to keep him alive frozen for over 100 years.
Forms
The Avatar State

In times of great despair or crisis, the Avatar can call upon the powers of all their previous incarnations, granting them greatly amplified strength and speed. This form is known as the Avatar State, and in it, Aang and his successors have been able to channel great power. In this state, Aang can access powers and techniques he has yet to learn due to the knowledge of his predecessors.
Initially, this was a form Aang struggled to use, and had little control over when he took over it. But as the series went on, he began to master it, allowing him to tap into the form at will and use it in his climactic final battle against Ozai.

Scaling
Team Avatar

Being the reason Team Avatar was founded in the first place, it makes sense to scale Aang to his comrades in battle: Primarily being Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko. Being the destined Avatar, he is established to be the most powerful of the crew with mastery of all their elements along with the airbending he was trained in as a youth. Such scaling would make him capable of matching feats such as:
- Toph stopped the descent of Wan Shi Tong’s library – (1.2 – 18.2 kilotons of TNT)
- Zuko intercepts Ozai’s lightning – (Mach 2.4)
- Zuko also intercepts Azula’s lightning – (Mach 50)
- Toph and Bumi have a sparring match that causes an earthquake across a rebel hideout.
- Toph metalbends an entire ore deposit. Size reference.
- With help from her students, Toph wards off an attack from Aang that was supposed to level an entire factory (100 Tons of TNT each)
- Past Avatars can manifest their physical bodies even after their death
- Zuko reflects a flame ambush and transforms it into a tornado
- Katara blocks and dodges lightning blasts from Azula – (Mach 283)
Various Benders

Aang and his team have fought nearly every bender around, or have fought people that have. It stands to reason they could scale to any feat they’ve performed, specific techniques notwithstanding.
- Combustion Man does big kaboom
- Iroh reacts to and redirects lightning – (Mach 27)
- Azula’s lightning can obliterate a rock wall – (7.3 Tons of TNT)
- Amon dodges lightning from Lightning Bolt Zolt – (Mach 214.7)
- The Unagi fired a fast blast of water (Mach 6.8, 1.3 Kilotons of TNT)
- King Bumi could throw entire buildings and a large statue during his Liberation of Omashu – (514 kg of TNT)
- A team of Dai Li agents tore down part of the Ba Sing Se wall (40.5 – 394.3 Tons of TNT)
- Ghazan created a pool of lava out of soil with lavabending (821.4 Tons of TNT)
- A team of waterbenders create a large amount of ice (2.4 – 4.4 Kilotons of TNT each)
- Ghazan destroyed a chunk of the Ba Sing Se wall (903.6 Tons – 7.8 Kilotons of TNT)
- Ghazan melted the Northern Air Temple floor with lavabending (8.8 Megatons of TNT)
- Kelsang created a typhoon that was powerful enough to wipe out a fleet of ships and cause tidal waves up to 30 feet tall (6.7 Megatons of TNT)
- General Old Iron created a storm that extended to the horizon (222.1 Kilotons of TNT)
The Avatars

Aang has learned many things from his past lives, through teachings or the Avatar State, it would only make sense that he could compare to the feats of any Avatar of the past, and maybe even the future. (As of Avatar Legends, Aang and Korra explicitly scale to each other).
- Kyoshi split and pushed off a large mass of land, creating Kyoshi Island – (Mach 75.3, 3.1 Teratons of TNT)
- Base Roku created a large air burst that engulfed part of his island (11.2 Kilotons of TNT)
- Base Roku carved a trench across his island (69 Kilotons – 2.9 Megatons of TNT)
- Yangchen was in a battle that went on for an entire night cycle that destroyed a city in the crossfire
- Korra survived a sky beam which dispersed a large cloud formation (338.6 tons of TNT)
- Korra fought Vaatu, whose darkness encased the entire planet in a matter of seconds (Mach 973)
- Yangchen moved clouds in the avatar states – (2.11 Gigatons of TNT)
- Korra froze a large amount of water to demobilise Kuvira’s mecha (9.1 Kilotons of TNT)
- Wan dodged light beams from Vaatu – (Mach 6118 – 0.12c*, See before the verdict)
Weaknesses

Yeah, so the show is called DEATH BATTLE! In all caps. Exclamation Point. The point is that people kill each other here. That might be a big problem if you’re someone like Aang, who went against all 14 Avatars before him just to find a solution to spare Ozai. Death Battle rules will ultimately still apply, but Aang is someone who will desperately look for alternatives, even in the most important scenarios, which can and has left him vulnerable in his earlier days. Also, in the world of Avatar, lightning is INCREDIBLY dangerous. While Aang can redeflect it, a sneak attack nearly killed him, which was especially dangerous at the time considering he was in the Avatar. Should Aang die in that form, it erases not just him, but the rest of the Avatars before him, ending the cycle for good.
Aether
Background

(Shoutout to all the people who chose Lumine)
Interstellar travellers from beyond the stars escaping their destroyed home planet, the twins Aether and Lumine crash-landed in their spaceship on the planet of Teyvat, in the autonomous region of Nod-Krai. While Aether stayed asleep within his stasis pod, Lumine woke up and was uplifted to the Temple of Space by the Shade of Space, Asmoday. Losing her memories, Lumine was a blank slate as an Outlander in Teyvat, and the independent nation of Khaenri’ah, seeking Descenders who could challenge the fate of the world itself, made Lumine their Princess. But Khaenri’ah was a nation that spurned the Heavenly Principles which first conquered this planet for humanity from the First Dragon Sovereigns. With no Archon, and a heretical rule under the Vinster King, they continually sought to push the bounds of what could be tolerated, and eventually, with their delves into the Abyss and the ruin it could bring to all of Teyvat, the Heavenly Principles and their Four Shining Shades in Celestia needed to destroy Khaenri’ah entirely to preserve the rest of the world. An utter and thorough destruction which would later come to be known as the Cataclysm.
Lumine, having recovered her memories, was torn between saving her new home and returning to Aether to escape the planet. After interference from the Shade of Time, Istaroth, she chose to return to Aether and wake him up. In the midst of their escape, the twins were confronted by Asmoday, who sent Lumine back down to Teyvat and sealed Aether and his powers away for five hundred years. Eventually, he woke up in the land of Mondstadt, sequestered in a world he did not know. Thankfully, he would happen to fish up Paimon, a strange fairy-like being who would become his guide, teaching him the language and helping him get around. Having saved Paimon from drowning, the two would become inseparable partners and set off to try and find Lumine, journeying across all of Teyvat as the truth of this world gradually became clear to him.
Aether’s kindhearted nature saw him help out and befriend people across Teyvat and beyond. His first friend was Amber, Outrider of the Knights of Favonius, who protect the nation of Mondstadt, the Land of Freedom. Protecting them from the dragon Dvalin, and eventually saving him from Abyssal corruption alongside Acting Grand Master Jean, Diluc and Mondstadt’s God, the Anemo Archon Venti, Aether would become the Honorary Knight of the Knights of Favonius, one of many titles to come. Such as the Saviour of Liyue, when he travelled to the Land of Contracts next and was embroiled alongside the battle-loving warrior Tartaglia in the faked death of Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon. In actuality, he would befriend Zhongli, who was just fine, and sought to see humanity thrive under their own rule. Fighting to defend the nation from an old god risen from the sea, Aether became a trusted ally of the nation and its people.
Afterwards, it was to Inazuma, the Land of Eternity. With its people engaged in a civil war due to the Vision Hunt Decree enacted by the Electro Archon, Raiden Ei, Aether needed to break through to the hurting woman behind the ruling puppet, shaking her unshakeable will to bring peace to the land. After fighting her to a draw, Aether showed Ei the strength of her people, and that the eternity she sought could never truly come to pass, but even as time moves forward, not everything has to change so drastically. As she sought to become a better ruler for her people, Aether became Ei’s confidant, and one of the few people she trusts completely. At the same time, the Fatui, an organisation from Snezhnaya operating under the orders of the Cryo Archon, which had been making moves in each of the nations prior, were starting to make headway in the next nation Aether was to visit.
Sumeru, the Land of Wisdom, was controlled by the Akademiya. They espoused prejudice against the people of the desert, and valued only the gifts of their prior Archon. To the extent that they imprisoned their God, the Dendro Archon Nahida, and sought the Fatui’s help in creating a god of their own to control. A land in which people suffered a condition known as Eleazar due to information from the Abyss infecting the Irminsul Tree, which spread its roots throughout all of Teyvat. Aether became Nahida’s first-ever friend and saved her from captivity during his quest in Sumeru. Assembling a team from all parts of the nation, rainforest and desert, they fought to break the Akademiya’s control over the nation, restore equality between all people, and fell the false god they were building, piloted by the Sixth Fatui Harbinger, Scaramouche. The puppet creation and son of Raiden Ei.
As Nahida took back her position leading Sumeru, she ushered in a new age of prosperity for all people and helped to rehabilitate Scaramouche with the discovery that much of the tragedy in his life had been masterminded by the Second Fatui Harbinger, Il Dottore. After wiping himself from the history of the world and returning as the Wanderer, he became a close friend of Aether’s, who Nahida had learned was classified by the Fatui as the Fourth Descender. Although Lumine was Khaenri’ah’s Princess, it was Aether who held the power to change the world, and he had already been in every nation and land he came across. Additionally, Aether had found Lumine with the help of Dainsleif, one of the few surviving people of Khaenri’ah, but in the five hundred years apart, she became the leader of the Abyss Order, which terrorised and threatened all of Teyvat. She and Aether were now on opposite sides of a war against Celestia and the gods, but even still, that sibling bond remained.
Afterwards, Aether took off to Fontaine, the Land of Justice. In a prophecy that detailed that the land would be drowned by water, the Hydro Archon Focalors had split her divinity from her humanity, instilling Furina to act as Fontaine’s Archon in an unending play for five hundred years. Never to slip up, or her people could be doomed. Alongside Fontaine’s Chief Justice, the Hydro Dragon Sovereign, Neuvillette, the leader of the Spina de Rosula, Navia, the Eleventh Fatui Harbinger Tartaglia, and the Fourth Fatui Harbinger Arlecchino, as well as her children, Aether would bring the hidden truths of Fontaine to light in court to avert the prophecy and save Fontaine. Defeating the All-Devouring Narwhal, which would have brought ruin to the land, it would be Aether’s first, but not last, encounter with Skirk, Tartaglia’s master and pupil of one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri’ah.
After Fontaine was saved, Neuvillette’s Authority was restored, the sin of the people of Fontaine was forgiven, and Furina could finally live a normal life, Aether was next off to Natlan, the Land of War. Under constant threat from the Abyss, Natlan is a nation of heroes who have fought to save their people, and the Pyro Archon Mavuika led her people with a plan to drive back the Abyss once and for all. With the First Fatui Harbinger, Il Capitano, a war hero from Khaenri’ah who had seen the ruin that the Abyss could bring, Natlan had dedicated allies who would fight to the last to defend it, and Aether, Mavuika and Il Capitano would go down in history as the three greatest heroes of Natlan’s history. Although the Captain gave his life to the Shade of Death, Ronova, in a bargain to save Mavuika, he would finally find eternal peace, and his legacy would be one of hope for the Natlanese and Fatui alike.
Next, Aether travelled to Nod-Krai, an autonomous region far more treacherous than most, because it doesn’t have an Archon presiding over it; instead, it is a lawless land, rampant with many factions. When Aether resonated with Kuuvahki, the raw, primordial elemental energy native to Nod-Krai, it triggered his dormant memories. He recalls that Nod-Krai is where his spaceship crashed, and decides to look for it. As he searches, Aether encounters all the factions in Nod-Krai. The Lightkeepers, the Fatui, and the Frostmoon Scions; the latter are important because they have a ritual that allows one to see the true past, which may tell Aether where his spaceship is. But the Fatui start meddling in Nod-Krai affairs, as they’re trying to weaponise Kuuvahki to hold dominion over Nod-Krai. One night, Aether encounters a young woman who is known by many names: Third Fatui Harbinger Damselette, Moon Maiden Kuutar, Columbina, etc., who the Fatui are looking for. Aether also reunites with his sister as they break into a secret chamber to retrieve a Moon Marrow, a divine artifact that Lumine believes will give them answers. Specifically, the Eternal Moon Marrow. But they find it’s gone, and only after does Aether find out it was not Lumine whom he went with, but rather Rerir, one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri’ah, using his incomplete form to shapeshift into others.
Paranoia spreads across Nod-Krai. Aether, aware of the role he played in opening the chamber, helps in the recovery of the Eternal Moon Marrow. But they find it was stolen by a Frostmoon Scion who defected to the Fatui. However, the Seventh Fatui Harbinger, Sandrone, returns the Eternal Moon Marrow to them, as she had no interest in it. Aether discovers he can safely house the Eternal Moon Marrow within himself, and does so to keep it from Rerir’s hands. In response, Rerir unleashes the Wild Hunt, a horde of monsters, formerly deceased individuals tainted with Abyssal energy. A huge Kuuvahki cannon is fired with the intent of destroying the Wild Hunt and Rerir, but he absorbs it, restoring his physical body. Despite Rerir only recovering a fraction of his power, he overwhelms Aether and company until Columbina teleports them to safety. Rerir searches madly for Columbina and finds her. Aether, by carrying the Eternal Moon Marrow, grants Columbina the Kuuvahki needed to help everyone escape Rerir. The group survives a Wild Hunt attack thanks to Varka, Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius. Albedo, Durin, Dainsleif and Arlecchino join their mission, with Arlecchino revealing that her heritage will allow her to host the Iridescent Moon Marrow, and she helps Aether and Columbina successfully retrieve it.
With Columbina’s Frost Moon Marrow, Aether’s Eternal Moon Marrow, and Arlecchino’s Iridescent Moon Marrow, everyone prepares for a final confrontation with Rerir. Dainsleif explains Rerir is immortal, so he must be imprisoned where he cannot return. Through a careful strategy, Aether and company combat Rerir, allowing Columbina to absorb enough Kuuvahki to open the Moon Gate and imprison Rerir within. With this mission successful, Columbina prepares for Moon Prayer Night so she may return to the moon. However, the ritual is hijacked by Dottore, who claims the Eternal and Iridescent Moon Marrows and turns Columbina into a living battery for the Frost Moon Marrow. Columbina retreats into the Moon Gate, severing Dottore’s connection to the Frost Moon. Having anticipated this, Dottore unveils his artificial Moon Marrow developed from scratch and ascends to godhood. However, Columbina was still alive, but stuck within the moon’s reflection, and had to orchestrate a series of events to bring about her revival. Aether and company confront Dottore, following the clues left behind by Columbina to align her body, soul and authority, triggering Columbina’s revival and apotheosis into the Trilune Moon Goddess. Dottore is blasted into oblivion. Later, Columbina learned Aether’s spaceship was transported to the moon by the Heavenly Principles, and took him there. With the threats of the Fatui, Rerir and Dottore vanquished from Nod-Krai, Aether is set for his next destination, the only nation in Teyvat he has yet to explore, Snezhnaya. Home of the Fatui and the Cryo Archon, Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya. Aether’s entire journey has led to this moment…
Experience & Skill

Little is known about Aether’s history and powers before landing in Teyvat, but he’s proven to be an outstanding swordsman and warrior from the get-go. Easily matching and surpassing Knights of Favonius with over a decade of training under their belt right after waking up, even a Dull Blade in the hands of a master can work wonders. For his help in Mondstadt’s Stormterror Crisis, he was made the Honourary Knight of Favonius, and is genuinely counted among the Knights’ ranks as one of their best to this day.
Teyvat also canonically shares the same calendar as we do, and with annual events that support the same passage of time such as Liyue’s Lantern Rite for the new year, Aether has been travelling through Teyvat for nearly six years as a member of the Adventurer’s Guild. In that time he’s helped resolve problems and deal with threats that even those with centuries of lived experience could not. Zhongli and current Liyue Adepti such as Xiao, Ganyu and Xianyun were active during the Archon War 3,700 years ago, and Aether has been able to quickly match or surpass them in battle. Similarly, the Geo Dragon Sovereign Azhdaha was alive and fighting during the war, and Aether was able to take him down with some assistance from Zhongli.
Raiden Ei, who won the Electro Throne during the Archon War by annihilating any threat to Inazuma or competitor for her seat, such as the gods Orobashi and Kanna Kapatcir, was stalemated by Aether, who had been in Teyvat for only one year at that point. Ei’s martial skills also formed the basis of all Inazuman martial arts regarding sword and polearm techniques, with each branch fostering masters of their craft. Later on, Ei would go on to fight the Raiden Shogun puppet for 500 years straight with no rest or breaks in order to change its protocols, and any single slip up would have meant defeat, but Ei won without suffering a single injury. Right before their fight, Aether also defeated the 8th of the Fatui Harbingers, La Signora, who slaughtered countless monsters to protect Mondstadt during the Khaenri’ahn Cataclysm 500 years ago and had served the Tsaritsa since then. Many of Rosalyne’s fellow Harbingers also have centuries of experience, such as Il Capitano, Il Dottore, Columbina Hyposelenia, Scaramouche and Sandrone; all of whom Aether has either directly fought and defeated, or fought evenly alongside. Arlecchino is another of the Fatui Harbingers Aether has fought, befriended and allied with; the fourth strongest across the organisation and coming to possess the Iridescent Moon’s Marrow, granting her a great deal of its power.
Early in his Sumeru journey, Aether absorbed the information within a Knowledge Capsule worth a million Mora, which contained expert combat and swordsmanship techniques, said to hold “countless figures” demonstrating swordfighting techniques, but the benefit to Aether’s pre-existing combat skill was almost negligible. This is a man who walks into a heavily guarded encampment of Hilichurl fighters, Fatui soldiers, Treasure Hoarders, Eremite mercenaries, Ronin, bandits, criminals, assassins or any other kind of brutal and dangerous monsters, and will take them all on at once, solo, and win. Even greater than Teyvat’s number of assorted monsters are Consecrated Beasts, which have been mutated and empowered by the remains of gods or similarly powerful beings, and Aether has taken them all down. Beyond even those, are Teyvat’s Local Legends. Incredibly powerful mini-bosses, Aether fought and defeated over 50 of them across all of Teyvat, cementing himself as one of the greatest warriors to ever walk the planet.
Besides his expert swordsmanship, Aether also gathered and honed all of Teyvat’s Elemental Energies, increasing in strength and ability with each one he accessed. Whilst Allogenes (people with a Vision granted to them by Celestia) are only able to control one Element, Aether has access to the full set of 7 and is able to freely use them all in conjunction with each other. He naturally got better and better over time, and has witnessed direct applications of these powers from the Archons and gods themselves who wield them, but would get the opportunity to directly train both his swordsmanship and elemental abilities to their limit under the tutelage of the greatest warriors in Teyvat: Skirk.
An Outlander in Teyvat like Aether, Skirk had been taken in as a young girl by Surtalogi, The Foul. One of the Five Sinners of Khaenri’ah who were directly responsible for the Cataclysm, Surtalogi brutally trained Skirk for her to have the power to eventually kill him, and she spent the last 500 years endlessly pushing herself, tempering her body to its breaking point and beyond to gain the power and skill necessary to stop him. She had briefly trained a pupil before, Ajax, who would go on to become the 11th Fatui Harbinger Tartaglia, and whom Aether had defeated early in his career, but they both kept improving and getting far stronger at a rapid pace. Like Tartaglia, Aether was also extremely proficient with all sorts of different weapons, even though he mainly used swords, but though the Harbinger’s multi-element fighting style, dual-weapon switching and Foul Legacy transformation always kept Aether on his toes, it wasn’t enough to beat him.
During Fontaine’s crisis, Tartaglia spent weeks in the Abyss fighting the All-Devouring Narwhal, Surtalogi’s planet-devouring pet, and Aether would team up with the Hydro Dragon Sovereign Neuvillette to defeat it, but Skirk was able to handily toss it aside. Later, getting to train with Skirk in the Abyss for days on end, she taught Aether how to take in sword techniques from the various experts he’d befriended along his journey like Keqing, Ayaka and Kazuha, as well as expertly utilise his elemental abilities all at once. Aether’s mastery of both reached new heights under Skirk, proving an equal partner to her in their fight against Skofnungr, who had stolen the heart and power of the All-Devouring Narwhal.
Crafted into the best warrior he could be, Aether is renowned all across Teyvat not just for his battle prowess, but also for his kindness. The Knights of Favonius, Millelith, Shogunate Samurai, Corps of Thirty, Maison Gardiennage and Lightkeepers all have nothing but praise to say regarding him, and he became a beacon of hope to the tribes of Natlan. Able to quickly befriend and connect with almost anyone, it’s made him a trusted friend and ally in every nation, and when the chips are down, Aether’s the one everybody wants by their side.
Intelligence

Having spent nearly six full years travelling across all of Teyvat, Aether has become well established as not only a powerful and dependable adventurer, but also an extremely intelligent ally. Across all the nations he’s visited, Aether’s become a master of solving puzzles and thinking outside the box. More than just how to get that chest in the corner, Teyvat has some truly difficult tasks to uncover treasure, often requiring interfacing with unique mechanics or region-specific obstacles, like Sumeru’s invisible walls or Nod-Krai’s Kuuvahki magnetism puzzles. So Aether has had to learn countless different styles and forms of puzzles to unlock.
This lateral thinking also helps Aether immensely during combat, being extremely quick to learn and adapt to an opponent’s style, whether that be how best to fight at range, counter elemental abilities, or switch up his own approach based on the enemy’s weapons. He’s also able to acquire new skills very quickly, such as alchemy, bartending and mixology, or the Lawrence Clan’s unique code of formal etiquette after a short period of instruction from Eula. Thanks to Paimon, Aether even picked up Teyvat’s entire language within the span of two months to a degree of perfection that he’s essentially a native speaker.
In Fontaine, Aether was drafted into a court case against Furina, the Hydro Archon of Justice who had 500 years of experience sitting in on legal proceedings, trying to defend Lyney and Lynette on his first day in the nation, despite never having studied Fontaine’s judicial system, and he won. In a similar vein, Aether has frequently worked alongside seasoned investigators, officers and detectives, spotting clues and helping with cases that have earned the praise of his partners; such as Yelan, Chevreuse, Emilie, and Shikanoin Heizou. Taking down weapons smuggling rings, Mora laundering criminal syndicates, and foiling countless secret plots is all in a day’s work for these teams.
Outside of that, Aether pieced together the secrets of Tsurumi Island, and helped the restless spirits within finally find peace and move on. He discerned Zhongli’s identity as the Geo Archon Rex Lapis, despite him going to lengths to hide it. Aether uncovered the secrets of the Fortress of Meropide better than specially trained spy agents from the Fatui’s House of the Hearth, and even figured out that he was in the Sabzeruz Festival Samsara time loop when no one else had a clue, breaking it from the inside. He noticed the Chasm’s space-time distortion, tracked down Zeitlind’s personal belongings across the Temple of Space, and whenever any character needs help, he’s always the one they go to. No matter the task, he’ll be sure to get it done.

Paimon

(Not emergency food!)
The best travel guide in the whole world! After getting fished up by Aether, Paimon stuck around by his side as the two travelled all across Teyvat. She first taught him the Teyvatian language, and has super deep pockets to carry around all her food, Mora, books and Kamera. She floats all by herself, but don’t judge her by her small size! She’s enrolled as a student of the Sumeru Akademiya, the foremost school of knowledge in Teyvat, and is always keeping up to date on everything she needs to know to be the best guide and partner she can be. And if you’re rude, she’s sure to give you an ugly nickname!
Paimon also definitely has a divine connection – possibly part of Asmoday or the Heavenly Principles – but nothing’s yet confirmed, so we’ll have to see how it all plays out in future story patches.
Bongo-Head (& other Fungi)

(Our beloved son)
During the Nilotpala Cup Beast Tamers Tournament where entrants captured and bonded with Fungi to fight, Aether and Paimon encountered a Floating Hydro Fungus as their first little buddy and named him Bongo-Head. Leading his team of four fellow Fungi to win the cup, Bongo-Head helped thwart a Fatui plot to raise an army of Fungi for Il Dottore to cause chaos with in Sumeru, unaffected by the Wisdom Orb’s mind control because he followed his best friends Aether and Paimon out of his own free will. After saving the day and willing the tournament, Bongo-Head and the rest of the Fungi left with Haniyyah, who would take care of the kind creatures, but tearful goodbyes don’t last forever, and he’d meet back up with his best buddies Aether and Paimon multiple times to travel the world and see beautiful sights.
Bongo-Head was on the victorious team of four alongside Layla’s Floating Anemo Fungus, Twirly-Whirly, Yae Miko’s Whirling Electro Fungus, Blitzara, and Haniyyah’s Whirling Pyro Fungus, Kindlejoy. Aether, Paimon and Bongo-Head befriended all of the different types of Fungi, so here are the special moves each Fungi can do.

Little One

(If you laugh, Huitzilopochtli activates)
When Aether and Paimon first entered Natlan, they saved a young Tepetlisaur from a pack of Rifthounds and decided to take him along on their various journeys across the Land of War, giving him the name Little One. Slowly learning his true identity and purpose as they bonded like true family, they uncovered that his unique red marked horn is known as the “Flamelord’s Blessing”, and as such, means Little One possesses power far greater than that of other Saurians; more akin to that of the ancient dragons.
After several quests that took the trio across Natlan, and obtaining the Golden Entreaties, it is revealed by the Dragon Sage Kukulkan that Little One has the crucial role of deciding whether or not to activate the apocalyptic machine, Huitzilopochtli. A device which would turn all of Natlan, and eventually the entire planet, into Phlogiston and that would destroy the Abyss if it were to attack Teyvat once again while its inhabitants all lived on as one hivemind. Due to his memories of his journey with Aether and Paimon and the connections he made, Little One chose not to activate the device that would destroy the family and home he loves. After defeating the Source Dragon Mech, Little One lost the Flamelord’s Blessing, despite still having the mark. At the end of his journey with Aether and Paimon, Little One chose to go on his own adventures across Natlan, and despite a tearful goodbye, they all knew they’d meet again someday.
Aguara

During Aether’s adventures across Natlan with his little Tepetlisaur buddy, the two would come across a lone Tepetlisaurus egg way back from the era of Och-Kan’s rule. With the egg put into stasis on the Isle of Tozoz, Aether, Paimon and the Little One all helped Aguara hatch, and he’d join them as friends from then on out. Aguara also featured in Linnea’s Story Quest, Alcyon Chapter: Act 1 – Up! Toward Homecoming Wings, where he entered into the Frostmoon Scions’ Spirit Envoy Championship in Nod-Krai alongside Aether.
In the tournament, Aether and Aguara defeated Itto and Crimson Staff (and Ushi), Mualani and Mamala, Haniyyah and Fluffy the Flower King, and Viliana and Gorynishche without too much trouble, but in the finals against Linnea’s older sister Celaeno and her Radiant Bladehorn, Haemus, Aguara needed to up his game. Getting hours worth of direct training from Little One back in Natlan, Aguara learned how to create powerful Geo Construct hammers, which were vital in helping him and Aether ultimately defeat Celaeno and Haemus to claim the championship title.
Wonderland Manekin & Manekina

The Manekin and Manekina that were gifted to Aether by Octavia, they act as avatars he can use in the Miliastra Wonderland if he so wishes, and dress them up to his desire. Although their default outfits are hardly the forefront of fashion, both of them are able to join Aether in battle in Teyvat, synching up to match the same element he uses at any given time.
Vigilant Watch: The Manekin can perform up to 4 consecutive strikes with their sword. They can charge this attack for rapid sword strikes and plunge from mid air to deal Aoe damage from below
Punishing Barrage: The Manekin attacks all nearby enemies with an AoE attack that connects with their elemental type. After unleashing a skill the Manekins attacks will change to deal the same corresponding element as damage. This cannot be overruled by elemental infusions.
No Entry: The Manekin summons a “restricted area” that deals 1 instance of damage when enemies approach it or enter said area once every half second
Battlelines Redrawn: When leaving the field, if there’s still an active restricted area that they summoned, it explodes
Combat Readiness: When off of the battlefield with sub-30% elemental energy, the Manekin can recover 2 elemental energy per second
Agile Stance: When the Manekin releases a burst or elemental skill, it can randomly change into one of its existing ensembles
Dex

Dex (short for Dexter), is a friendly juvenile Watcher of the Temple of Space, not yet fully grown into his body. During the A Long Day in the Mountains World Quest, he Uplifted Aether, Paimon and Zeitlind to the Temple of Space, but due to his age, he lacks certain authorities of the Temple, like being able to bring people back down. His ability to warp and manipulate space to great degrees currently appears limited to the Temple of Space, but he can still forcibly send people there from Teyvat.
Equipment
Weapons

Like any RPG protagonist, Aether carries an armory of weaponry with him, all of them swords, from cursed to blessed swords, from famed blades made by most legendary blacksmiths to mysterious weapons with powerful abilities, to just very sturdy ones with incredible sharpness, among the most notable ones are included:
| Dull Blade (Teyvat’s most feared blade) A Dull Blade, an adventurer’s most basic equipment to defend against the danger that lurks within the corners of Teyvat, and also Aether’s most iconic weapon, used against some of the most dangerous beings Teyvat has to offer, from civilisation-destroying monsters to Fatui Harbingers to gods… | |
| Prototype Rancour The Adventure’s Guild’s initial reward to Aether for reaching Rank 10. Made by the combined efforts of two notorious smithing families from Liyue, it was so sharp that after its forging, it cut through solid rock after being dropped by accident. This sword would become the basis for future blades made in Liyue. It was Aether’s main weapon during their stay on Natlan. On hit, Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks and Defense increase with a max of 4 stacks. | |
| Silver Sword A sturdy sword made of silver alloy, as its name suggests. It is said to be able to exorcise demons because of its silver blade, in reality though, it has no special exorcising properties, Aether mostly used this sword in Sumeru, while helping the mythic Aranara. | |
| Sword of Narzissenkreuz Formed as a Holy Ceremonial sword for the Narzissenkreuz Ordo, it’s an incredibly powerful and mysterious sword, used to separate the “mind” from the physical body. This was used by the Ordo to grant intelligence to Hilichurls as well as remove the minds of their own fellow cult members in search of granting every citizen in Fontaine immortality by merging them into one being, Aether used this holy sword to defeat Narzissenkreuz. Who was a Hydro Tulpa infused with the mind of The leader of the Ordo; Rene, Specifically “cutting down his will”. In combat, when doing any kind of damage, depending on the type of energy stored, either Pneuma or Osusia, the sword will unleash an energy blast worth 320% of Attack as Damage. | |
| Festering Desire A cursed weapon abandoned by its creator, unable to be wielded by regular people due to its powerful corruption. It was made using small parts of the mighty dragon Durin, giving it terrifying power, capable of absorbing the life energy of slain foes to increase the power of the blade. It was given to Aether by Albedo after its purification, which was possible thanks to Aether’s innate purification powers. In combat increases Elemental Skill by 32% and Elemental Skill critical rate by 12% | |
| Harbinger of Dawn The Triumphant Harbinger of Dawn that points towards Victory. It’s a gift given by the Knights of Favonius’ Cavalry Captain (of a city without horses), Kaeya, as compensation for our help during Aether’s first days on Tevyat; it’s said to be blessed with a “feel-good” buff. The blade increases the Critical Rate by 28% when HP is above 90% of total. | |
| Sword of Descension A mysterious sword, of unique craftsmanship, one that like Aether, belongs to a world unknown. Only the one that “Challenged the world” can wield this sword, only one not belonging to Tevyat. In the hands of Aether, this weapon grants a 50% chance of causing a big Area of Effect attack with each hit. And also increases Aether’s attack in 60 points, an effect that only applies to Aether as a Descender coming from the sea of stars. | |
| Kagotsurube Isshin A sword smithed by a notable practitioner of the infamous Isshin Art, made with the powerful desire of restoring the public faith in the Kaedehara Clan’s name and the Isshin Art. but due to the Tatarigami used on its creation, the sword gained consciousness and began possessing people to reach the goal of his maker, committing atrocities along the way, after failing to win against Kaedehara Kazuha and learning the error of its way, it sacrificed its consciousness for one last chance at redemption. Doing any kind of damage will trigger an AoE attack equal to 180% of the Attack stat, followed by an increase of attack of 15% for 8 seconds | |
| Fleuve Cendre Ferryman When push comes to shove, necessity is the mother of invention–and anything can become a weapon. Just ask legendary Fontanian outlaw, Eduardo Baker, who famously used an abandoned copper pipe, named the Ferryman, to beat both criminals and rogue Spinocrocodiles. In-game, the Ferryman can boost Aether’s Elemental Skill CRIT Rate by 16%. In addition, once Aether uses any of their Elemental Skills, then they can increase their Energy Recharge by 32% for 5 seconds. | |
| Lion’s Roar Thought to be from Liyue, the Lion’s Roar is a legendary blade whose priceless sheath was lost to history. However, that loss would ultimately free the weapon’s true power–roaring like a lion as it cuts through the air. The blade itself features magnificent carvings while still maintaining its exceptional durability and sharpness. In the hands of Aether, and other sword users, it can deal 36% more damage to enemies that have been affected by Pyro or Electro. | |
| Freedom-Sworn Kaedehara Kazuha’s Signature weapon, a beautiful Azure sword believed to contain the song used by the bard of the resistance to break the powerful storm barrier around the God of Storm’s tower, during the final hours of his tyrannical reign over Mondstadt. It grants its user additional damage when doing elemental reactions, generating a sigil of Rebellion, after reaching two stacks, the Song of Resistance will play for 20s, increasing Normal, Charged and Plunging Attack damage by 32% and increasing the ATK stat by 40%. | |
| Primordial Jade Cutter The Primordial Jade Cutter is a blade made of pure jade that was once wielded by Rex Lapis. It was originally created to be a symbol for peace and luxury, but fate and the tragedies of the Archon War would turn it into a bloodstained blade of slaughter. Wielding this sword increases the user’s health by 40% and grants an attack bonus based on 2.4% of their maximum health. | |
| Skyward Blade A Sword blessed by the Anemo Archon Barbatos himself, imbuing the blade with the power of the Wind, it symbolises Dvalin’s wish to restore his honour. This weapon gives 55.1% of additional energy recharge, serving as an ideal weapon for Anemo and Dendro Aether. Additionally it gives a 8% Critical rate increase alongside 10% movement and attack speed, and giving extra additional damage of 40% of the characters Attack attribute with each hit. | |
| Xiphos’ Moonlight Once wielded by a warrior named Xiphos, this double-edged blade glimmers in the radiant moonlight. According to ancient Tighnarian lore, a Jinni resides in the blade, ensuring that it grows sharper by slaughters and brightened by blood. Its effect is the “Jinni’s Whisper” which triggers every 10 seconds. This grants the user with Energy Recharge scaling based on their Elemental Mastery (0.072% per point) for 12 seconds, while also buffing other party members 30% of that value for the same time. This effect stacks with multiple weapon instances and can trigger off-field. | |
| Sacrificial Sword Once a ceremonial sword used by Mondstadt’s Gunnhildr clan, its edge would only be sharpened through the passage of time. When its wielder attacks an opponent with an Elemental Skill, there’s a 80% chance that the skill’s cooldown will reset. This effect can only occur once every 16 seconds | |
| Favonius Sword Introducing your standard-issue weapon as part of the Knights of Favonius! It is agile and balanced, allowing you to strike quickly while channeling the power of the elements with ease! While wielding this, any critical hit has a 100% chance of generating some elemental particles. These particles regenerate 6 Energy for the character and can only happen once every 6 seconds. | |
| Mistsplitter Reforged Kamisato Ayaka’s signature weapon, one of the swords that Raiden Shogun bestowed it to one of her most elite Samurai, Takamine the Mistsplitter. Who used it to slay countless demons and foes cursed with Tatarigami, This purple blade is said to call upon lightning itself to slice through mountain mist and night fog. It’s called “Reforged” because it was originally broken into a thousand pieces before being fixed again. In gameplay, aside from giving a heavy 44.1% critical damage bonus, Aether will gain a 24% elemental damage bonus (for whatever element they’re currently on) and it’ll provide even more (from 16/32/56%) depending on how many stacks of the Mistsplitter’s Emblem it gains. | |
| Splendor of Tranquil Waters Outside of being Furina’s signature weapon, the Splendor of Tranquil Waters once symbolised supreme authority over the seas in the hands of a singer named Erinnyes. However, during her grueling quest for revenge and atonement, she lost her faith and abandoned her sword. Now, in the hands of any sword user, it can be used for stat changing effects. Whenever the wielder’s health changes, their elemental skill damage goes up by 16% (Max 3 stacks). Whenever another team member’s health changes, the wielder’s maximum health increases by 28% (Max 2 stacks). Both of these buffs last for 6 seconds and can stack every 0.2 seconds. | |
| Toukabou Shigure Outside of offering protection from the elements, umbrellas in the nation of Inazuma can be seen as one-of-a-kind masterpieces, showcasing beautiful artistry in each of their designs. The Toukabou Shigure is no different–even with its large, moving eye and protruding tongue. Hitting an opponent with the umbrella inflicts the Cursed Parasol effect on them for 10 seconds. This debuff can be triggered every 15 seconds; however, if the cursed target is defeated while the effect is still active, then the cooldown is refreshed. While active, Aether is able to deal 32% more damage to the opponent. | |
| Azurelight Aether’s Master Skirk’s Signature Weapon, a blade once white and pure, as a white dawn star, now tainted deep blue due to the Abyss’ influence from its wielder. As the blade of Tevyat’s most powerful warrior, it’s indisputable its sharpness and sturdiness, being able to withstand enormous power, in battle it grants 48% Attack bonus during 12 seconds after using a skill, and if the character wielding it has zero energy, Attack is increased a 48% further while also giving a 80% Critical Damage Bonus. | |
| The Black Sword The Sword once belonged to the once gentle and just Knight of Favonius, Roland. Who began using his strength for the sake of justice, but would eventually fall to the sword’s thirst for slaughter. Even then, his seek of justice never faltered, slashing monster after monster after monster, until the day he learned of the ultimate injustice, giving his entire self to the Abbys. In combat the sword increases normal and charged attack by 40%, additionally heals the player a 100% of their attack value as HP when scoring a critical hit. | |
| Flute of Ezpitzal A jade sword passed down within the Masters of Night-Wind tribe. Once belonging to one of its founders, fated to be a sacrifice as the “Holy Sovereign”, this flute was the girl’s only companion aside from her trusty attendant. Not offering much offensive capabilities, it shines when it comes to defense, as using an elemental skill grants 32% of additional defense for 15 seconds. | |
| Summit Shaper Alchemist Albedo’s Signature Weapon, while it may not be the best fit for the Alchemist in-game, it still a extremely powerful blade, made from pure golden Cor Lapis by the Geo Archon Morax, who once cut clean a corner off a mountain, all to swear upon it to protect the people of Liyue against injustice. The blade increases Shield Strength by 40%, hitting an enemy increases Attack for 8% for 8 seconds, with 5 max stacks. With a 100% increase if the wielder is inside a shield. | |
| Haran Geppaku Futsu Kamisato Ayato’s Signature weapon, a famed blade used worthy of the Head of the Kamisato Clan, it was one of the blades forged by the great Smithing master Masagomaru from the Inazuman Futsu School, this blade excels when used alongside Elemental abilities, as it gives a 24% increase in elemental damage, and when using an Elemental skill, via consuming the stacks of Rippling Upheaval this weapon gives, the wielder receives an increase of their Normal Attack of 40%. | |
| Absolution Clorinde’s signature weapon. Once belonging to a famous Fontanian outlaw, Thompson Reed, it was primarily used as a tool for disguising his identity for deceiving. Believing in the “Survival of the fittest”, Thompson believed using everything and everyone to his advantage was how he was going to make it in this world, this weapon gave the outlaw company when residing on the undergrounds of Fontaine, all the way to his final lie to attempt to secure his future in Poisson. The blade increases Critical Damage by 40%, while also increasing Damage in 32% with 3 max stacks when certain criteria is met. | |
| Dark Iron Sword Just a perfectly ordinary sword, just darker than most, thanks to the efforts of its wielder to darken it using the heat of the sun. It’s a perfectly capable sword for combat, but it’s used at its full potential when pairing it with Elemental Reactions, in most cases, will give a 30% Attack increase for 12 seconds. |
Bows (& Other Weapons)

During his adventures across Teyvat, Aether has picked up a variety of different weapons. Mainly finding them laying about or stuffed inside treasure chests, while he opts to use his sword as the primary go-to in combat situations, Aether has on occasion used different weapon types than his favourite. For example, during the Inazuma Archon Quest, when meeting with Gorou in the Watatsumi Resistance, Aether was asked to pick up a bow and shoot a target to prove his capability and help the soldiers’ training, which he did. Though in-game you most likely just used one of the bow characters you already had such as Amber or Collei, canonically it was Aether who made that shot. As he does choose to fight with swords almost all the time, listing all the different bow types Aether carries around with him but never uses would be a little superfluous, but it’s worth mentioning that he does have them, and can indeed use them if he so wishes. The same should go for Polearms, Claymores and Catalysts.
Gun

(For his Neutral Special, he wields a Gun)
Recent Snezhnaya trailers have shown Aether using this as-of-yet unnamed firearm in combat, and it is believed he will gain access to more as his journey continues. In trailers, Aether can be seen using rapid fire ice shots, dodge sliding to evade attacks, blasting stronger power shots, and launching explosive grenades at foes. With Snezhnaya’s official release right around the corner, more information is surely soon to come.
Artifacts

Mystical equipment that anyone can equip to themselves to enhance their capabilities. Artifacts come in a set of 5; Flower of Life, Plume of Death, Sands of Eon, Goblet of Eonothem and Circlet of Logos. Each set has a unique boost that occurs when one equips either 2 or 4 pieces of a matching set. A person can only have 5 artifact pieces equipped at a single time, however.
Due to the fact that they operate under a passive, percentage-based increase, can roll different individual stats and boosts, and lack a presence in the story, we’ve elected not to focus on them too heavily. By using the artifact increases in conjunction with VS stats, there’s a worry that they could be used to calc stack and create inflated values beyond what is intended or reasonable, so instead consider them as small buffs which can increase certain combat aspects. They can increase attack, defence, the power of elemental abilities, lower a foe’s elemental resistance, grant wider range, increase healing, and so on.
Food

Food! We need it, we love it, and we, yes WE, like to make it. Across Teyvat, Aether can cook meals at any lit stove or campfire, forage for food in the wild, and brew Potions at Crafting Benches. His friends also like to send him a signature dish on their birthdays. The food in Genshin can be used to heal characters, restore stamina, or revive fallen party members.
However, you can’t just keep healing yourself mid-battle! To prevent this, Genshin Impact put in a Fullness Gauge. If you eat too many recovery dishes, then you become full and can’t eat anymore until the gauge depletes. Outside of that, there are cooldown periods for certain types of food. For example, foods that restore stamina have a 300 second cooldown.
Food can also be used to provide stat buffs for either the player’s character or the entire party, and can be sorted into four categories:
- Offensive: Boosts CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, Physical DMG, and ATK
- Defensive: Boosts Shield Strength, Defense, Healing, and Healing Effectiveness
- Elemental: Boosts Elemental DMG from the player’s character and reduces incoming Elemental DMG from enemies
- Stamina: Reduces how much stamina is used while climbing, gliding, sprinting, or swimming
Only one food buff per category can be active at a time, and eating a new dish will replace any buffs previously obtained, even if it has worse stats. However, up to four different buffs can be active simultaneously as long as each affects a different category.
Food can also come in three different quality variants: Suspicious, Normal, and Delicious. The effects scale directly with the food’s quality, with Suspicious food decreasing a normal dish’s stats by 20% and Delicious food providing a 20% increase. The signature dishes mentioned before also provide superior benefits compared to their Delicious counterparts.

Fishing Rods

In a world as big and varied as Tevyat, with so many different cultures and kinds of food, catching your own ingredients seems like an ideal hobby for an adventurer to have, especially if they don’t want to starve when in the wild. As an experienced Adventurer, Aether is ready for everything when staying with the sky and stars as his only roof, with various different fishing rods for catching fish, some that work better on specific conditions or specific places, just patience and the right bait is everything Aether needs to catch even the rarest delicacy to swim the seas of Tevyat, these include:
| Wilderness Rod | A basic ass cheap fishing rod, it’s sturdy and could be used for self-defense, but it’s better suited to catch fish. | |
| Moonstringer | A commemorative fishing rod, made specifically to catch Moonfin, having great stability and strength, as made for the legendary Moonfin in mind, it catches normal fish extremely easily. | |
| Windtangler | A fishing rod made for use within Mondstadt, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. Designed by a poet from Mondstadt, it uses Anemo energy to help raise the rod. | |
| Wishmaker | A fishing rod made for use within Liyue, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. Said to be discovered on a stone table with inscriptions, probably by merchants wanting to sell it. | |
| Narukawa Ukai | A fishing rod made for use within Inazuma, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. Made to commemorate the ancient Ukai fishing method. | |
| Serendipity | A fishing rod made for use within Sumeru, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. An archaic rod inspired by tales of rods of old, made of a branch wrapped in vines. | |
| Wavepiercer | A fishing rod made for use within Fontaine, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. Designed by the Fontaine research institute, specially useful in catching “Iron Fish” | |
| Flowhorn Flounderfinder | A fishing rod made for use within Natlan, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. Its carving features a rhino and birds. | |
| Moongleam Sapling | A fishing rod made for use within Nord Krai, easing the process of catching fish in these lands. It shimmers with a pure moonlight like glow. |
Musical Instruments

Across his years travelling Teyvat, Aether has gathered a number of different musical instruments which he’s learned to play with aplomb. Though Teyvat has its own melodies, you can play any keys you want, whether that be the Song of Storms, or Never Gonna Give You Up for the classic Rickroll.
| Instruments | Description |
| A guitar that Skirk made based on the instruments of her homeland. The guitar has a unique charm when played. Its ancient melody seems to hum of a history that nobody recalls. | |
| A small drum that Itto gave Aether. He bought it from an outlander merchant, and while it does look quite normal, it is said to be a relic left behind by an ancient and powerful Onmyouji who used it to drive out calamity and pray for blessings. | |
| A traditional instrument from Natlan that can be used in performances. A percussion instrument with a skin drumhead that can be played with one’s bare hands. Tuned using ropes. it has a unique sound that, in skilled hands, can add a rich rhythm to any song. | |
| A drum with a clear sound and unique design. It has an exquisite exterior and features intricate craftsmanship. High-quality materials have been used in its construction, with a view toward sound quality during performances, intonation and long-term wear and tear. It is said that this small drum combines an Inazuman traditional instrument with some quirks of drums from other nations. When it plays certain tunes, it can even bring people good luck… | |
| It is made of rather unique materials, and its craftsmanship is quite different from the designs that are currently in vogue. An unpredictable strength has been woven into the ethereal strings that can even allow it to cause the illusions within the heart of its player to surface. There is an old adage in Liyue: “the longer one’s eye of the flower drinks, the deeper one’s heart into the mire sinks.” It seems that only the strong-willed may use this instrument. | |
| A delicate instrument that can be used in performances. In the eyes of the ancient philosopher-debaters, the melodies of the mortal world are but a rough imitation of the universe’s symphony. However, the King of the Immortals captured the unusual motifs within the musician’s performance, then instructed the harmonist to fix the eternal music onto every key, allowing anyone who plays it to join in the grandest of symphonies. | |
| Use to play a Natlanese style instrument. A uniquely curved mechanical piano, its black and white keys resemble a traditional model, but the sound it produces is unconventional indeed. On certain lively occasions, musicians play it such that its rhythm becomes the fuel for a fiery atmosphere. | |
| This exquisite horn is a Fontainian instrument that can be used in performances, and was a gift from Dvorak to Aether. They say the tones of the horn are both rich and mellow as well as gentle, like a gentle evening breeze blowing among a thicket of trees. So, Fontainian composers often use horns to vividly bring the imagery of hunters and forests to life. Without a doubt, this instrument is eminently suited to a musical gala celebrating “life.” | |
| A traditional instrument from Natlan that can be used in performances. A small, four-stringed lute shaped similarly to — and which plays like — a guitar, though its fret count and tuning differ. Thanks to the material the strings are made of, it sounds clear and bright, yet soft, soothing the hearts of those who hear it. | |
| Use this traditional instrument from Mondstadt to play songs. An instrument of incredible workmanship, it will surely produce moving music when played by able hands. Mondstadt has a long-standing tradition of poetry and song, and thus also boasts a long history of constructing instruments to that effect. Bards are most proud of their songs and poems, and perhaps the instruments, too, would be proud of their owners and their musical tradition. |
Pets

Aether can also equip these little friends, they offer purely cosmetic value and cannot help you during fights, but they look adorable, and sometimes you need to look at a tiny charming pet to make your day a little better.
| Endora | Just a very curious Lochfolk who only wishes to see the world. They look like a miniature oceanid, might get along very well with the Mini Seelie: Dayflower. | |
| Cloud Retainer’s Damasked Device | Made from stacked paper, a miniature Cloud Retainer, made by Cloud Retainer themselves | |
| Itty Bitty Octobaby | A tiny type of octopus that lives in the depths of the ocean. Out of their curiosity for the world, they began traveling very young | |
| Shiki Koshou | A replica of Shiki Taishou, but without any combat prowess, only capable of sharing information with Shiki Taishou. | |
| Ujola Cat | A Tiny mechanical cat, unearthed from an ancient ruin long ago, that for some reason, has the appearance of a cat. | |
| Neo Terminal: Floating Leaf Model | A neo Akasha terminal based on the mythic Aranara, comes with a timekeeping function, helping their master with their daily agenda. | |
| Firstborn Firesprite | A tiny lifeform that emerged from a flame within a shell. They don’t like water much. | |
| Mini Seelie: Dayflower | A blue mini Seelie, unlike regular wild Seelie, it doesn’t guide others, but wants to see the world, gets along with the Endora. | |
| Mini Seelie: Brilliance | A Silver mini Seelie, with brilliant colors, it can move freely underwater | |
| Mini Seelie: Curcuma | A Golden mini Seelie, its mora-like color symbolises fortune. | |
| Mini Seelie: Moss | A Green mini Seelie, this little guy likes Nature and it gets happy when its near a tree. | |
| Mini Seelie: Rosé | A Pink mini Seelie, they will silently follow you without saying a word. | |
| Mini Seelie: Viola | A purple mini Seelie, with its electro like color, you may get a tickle if you get too close to it. |
Wind Glider

After having his original light wings sealed away with the rest of his power by Asmoday, Aether’s new friend and Gliding Champion of Mondstadt, Amber, helped get him hooked up with his very own Wind Glider and Profession Gliding Licence. Able to glide through the air for as long as he has stamina, it’s proved essential for all his adventures throughout Teyvat. Catching a wind current, updraft, bursts of Anemo or going through special wind rings can give Aether a boost and restore his stamina while gliding.
Additionally, he’s got multiple different variations of colour and style, with many matching the region they were obtained in after reaching Reputation Level 10 and helping out around the place. There are also a few different gliders for special collaborations or events, but ultimately, differences are purely cosmetic, and they all serve the same purpose.
Portable Teleport Waypoint

Through alchemy, Aether can craft a Portable Waypoint to establish a temporary teleport anchor at his current location. However, this item cannot be used mid-air, inside Domains, or in bodies of water. Once placed, the gadget remains active for 7 days, and only one can exist at a time. If a new one were to be placed, then the previous waypoint is deleted.
Aranara’s Garland

A Garland given to Aether by the mythic Aranara of Sumeru, these flowers are Aranara’s most precious gift and each one was given by a different Aranara friend Aether helped during his stay in Sumeru. It was used during Aether’s fight against Marana’s Avatar, a being that means death in the most literal sense, and the source of the Withering that once plagued Sumeru. With this Garland the Aranara transferred their power to Aether, giving him a buff to overcome this monster, it is also said to be able to ease heavy mental load and protect from nightmares via the Aranara, which could imply it gives some sort of mental protections. The Garland is implied to be almost powerless after the fight against Marana Avatar, but the connection to the Aranara still exists.
Vintage Lyre

An apparently regular Monstadt Lyre given to Aether by the Vimara Village Chief in Sumeru, on his own it’s just another way for Aether to create music, but alongside songs taught by different Aranara, the Lyre can conjure diverse powers, such as:
- Rhythm of the Great Dream, Arana’s song; using this tune grants Aether the ability to enter and exit Aranara Dream Worlds, such as Varanara (the Aranara hometown), it can be used to enter and exit any kind of dreamscape as long as there is a Silpana, which is a gate between dreams and reality.
- Rhythm of Vamadha, Ararycan’s Song: this tune is used near Vamadhas, which are vine-like structures made by Aranara to block paths. Upon hearing this song the Vamadhas will turn around giving anyone a free pass.
- Rhythm of the Gloomy Path, Araji’s Song: this song left by the legendary Aranara can activate portals within Gloomy Paths, which are stone structures; these Gloomy paths connect different places together via their portals.
- Rhythm of the Beastly Trail, Arayama’s Song: the famous Arayama left this song for anyone to be able to dispel his Illusions, including tangible ones, as Arayama once hated Humans and used Illusions to give them a hard time, it’s used near a Claustroflora.
- Rhythm of the Sprout, Arahama’s Song: It’s used to summon healthy dendrograms from Auspicious Branches, which can be used to make ranged dendro attacks and heal flora.
- Rhythm of the Source Water, Arapandu’s Song: Performing this song within Apam Woods will cause the gigantic weather device “Varuna Contraption” to change the weather, performing it will instantly cause the rain to stop, giving the plants clear sunshine.
- Rhythm of Revival, Aranakin’s Song: playing this tune near a broken elemental monument will instantly repair them, allowing Aether to continue his exploration without hiccups.
Serenitea Pot

After saving Liyue from Osial’s return and having gained the favour of the Adepti, Madame Ping entrusted Aether with the Serenitea Pot, which at first just looks like an ordinary teapot, but it’s much bigger on the inside. In truth, it held the Realm Within, a small personal pocket dimension Aether was given full creative control over. Starting off with a mansion as a home base, with the Teapot Spirit Tubby to help out, Aether was able to grow the space inside into his own personal paradise.
Able to shift terrain, locations, place objects and buildings; it’s Aether’s very own sandbox to play around with. He can also grow various plants and flowers, create furniture, display meaningful items, and put his photos up on the walls of his house. Aether can teleport directly into this space and back out again at any time, and with the Realm Dispatch, he can also invite his friends from Teyvat to visit, or you can invite other Genshin players in co-op mode.
Wonderland Cosmosphere

Long ago during her travels across the universe, the mage Octavia stumbled across a pocket dimension falling into disrepair, and she took it upon herself to fix it up good as new. When she joined the Hexenzirkel coven of witches, however, Octavia found herself drawn to the adventures of Aether and Paimon, and deemed them worthy of being the new masters of the Miliastra Wonderland. With the Wonderland Cosmosphere as the key to enter this pocket dimension, they had access to countless new experiences and Manekins to act as avatars in this new world.
Essentially, it allows you to access User-Generated Content in its own swanky universe. Wanna test your character builds with the DPS Dummy? You can! Wanna race Dodocos ala Mario Kart? By all means! Chess, Wipeout, Snowball Fights, Among Us, PVP combat, in-game Genshindle, Manekin dress-up and camera modes- if you, yes YOU reading this blog, want to make and play it, there’s nothing stopping you.
Abilities
Outlander Physiology

In Genshin Impact, an Outlander is someone who does not belong to Teyvat, and as such, is not subject to the same rules and laws as the rest of Teyvat’s inhabitants, such as the Fate system which controls destiny or Irminsul’s reality alterations. However, Descenders are Outlanders who possess a “will to rival the world itself”, and have the potential to overthrow the Heavenly Principles, who is the First Descender, Phanes.
All Descenders are Outlanders, but not all Outlanders are Descenders. It is furthermore implied that to become a Descender, you need to have love for all the land and connections within. As such, Skirk, an Outlander in Teyvat who has kept herself away from forging connections, could become a Descender, but does not, as she wishes to limit her interaction with the world. And it is why Lumine is not classified as a Descender like Aether, as her memories, will, and desires were drained in the Apathic Interval and her love extends only to Khaenri’ah and its people, not Teyvat as a whole.
Elemental Resonance

After touching one of the many Statues of the Seven in the land of Teyvat, Aether gains the ability to utilise and control that respective region and Archon’s element.
Anemo

The first element Aether resonated with on his journey through Teyvat, the power of Anemo lets him control and manipulate wind. With his Elemental Skill, Palm Vortex, he lets loose a force of wind from his palms, damaging anyone that gets close, causing continuous damage. His Elemental Burst, Gust Surge, has him summon force a huge forward-moving tornado, pulling enemies in, dealing continuous Anemo damage. You definitely don’t want to get caught in this.
Anemo is able to Swirl Electro, Hydro, Pyro and Cryo to spread the elements around.
Geo

The second element Aether resonated with on his journey through Teyvat, the power of Geo lets him control and manipulate rocks and the earth, as well as enhance his own body for superhuman feats. The Elemental Skill, Starfell Sword, summons a huge rock from the depth called a Geo Construct that Aether can climb on or use to block attacks. Wake of Earth is his Elemental Burst that lets them launch shockwaves, dealing Geo damage and a stone wall is summoned at the edge of the shockwave.
Geo can Crystalise Electro, Hydro, Pyro and Cryo to form elemental shields of that respective affinity, as well as Shatter foes who are Frozen.
Electro

The third element Aether resonated with on his journey through Teyvat, the power of Electro lets him control and manipulate electricity. He can also make a giant badass Electro sword out of it and boost his speed to great levels. Lightning Blade is his Elemental Skill where he summons three sword thunder shadows that deal Electro damage and leave behind an Abundance Amulet (which basically restores elemental energy and increases energy recharge.) His Elemental Burst, Bellowing Thunder, calls upon the protection of lightning, knocking nearby foes back and sending them flying.
Electro can be Swirled with Anemo, Crystalised with Geo, Superconducted (and Stellar Conducted) with Cryo, Electro-Charge enemies with Hydro, Overload enemies with Pyro, Quicken enemies with Dendro, Aggravate Quickened enemies, and create Hyperbloom with Hydro and Dendro.
Dendro

The fourth element Aether resonated with on his journey through Teyvat, the power of Dendro lets him control and manipulate plants and life energy, as well as zip between mid-air points for traversal. His elemental skill sends a wave of Dendro energy at the opponent in a wave range in front of him. His Elemental Burst is creating a wide Dendro field with a large “lamp” in the middle that deals periodic Dendro damage to enemies within the field. Depending on the elements it comes into contact with it will gain a variety of enhancements. With Hydro, it’s attack AoE is increased. With Electro, the speed at which the lamp attacks is increased. And with Pyro, the lamp will explode, dealing massive damage.
Dendro can create Bloom with Hydro, Burning with Pyro, Quicken with Electro, and Spread Quickened enemies.
Hydro

The fifth element Aether resonated with on his journey through Teyvat, the power of Hydro lets him control and manipulate water. His Elemental Skill in this state has him shoot a surge of water at the opponent or shoot off a barrage of smaller water bullets. His Elemental Burst is creating a large slow moving water bubble that will deal continuous damage to opponents nearby.
Hydro can be Swirled with Anemo, Crystalised with Geo, Frozen with Cryo, Electro-Charge enemies with Electro, Vaporise enemies with Pyro, and create Bloom with Dendro.
Pyro

The sixth element Aether resonated with on his journey through Teyvat, the power of Pyro lets him control and manipulate fire and Phlogiston. His Elemental Skill, Flowfire Blade, depends on whether or not you tap or hold the button. Tapping it has Aether gain Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, where he summons a Blazing Threshold that follows the currently active character. Anyone getting too close will have Pyro damage done to them and generate an Elemental Particle. The Nightsoul’s Blessing state lasts about 12 seconds before he has to activate it again. Holding the button has Aether unleash the fire, dealing Nightsoul-aligned fire damage while also summoning a Scorching Threshold. The Threshold will launch a coordinated attack with Aether, increasing his average DPS.
The Elemental Burst, Plains Scorcher, has Aether unleash the fire, condensing it into a mark for foes up ahead. As an added bonus, it restores his Nightsoul points about 7 per second, letting him access his powerful Nightsoul Blessing state even more.
Pyro can be Swirled with Anemo, Crystalised with Geo, create Melt with Cryo (and melt ice regularly), Vaporise enemies with Hydro, Overload enemies with Electro, Burn enemies with Dendro, and create Burgeon with Hydro and Dendro.
Cryo

The final element Aether resonates with on his journey through Teyvat. While it hasn’t been released for play in the game yet, preview trailers have shown a little bit about the abilities he’ll be able to wield. Namely, the ability to shift icy terrain, throw a Cryo polearm at the enemy, and utilise Stellar Conduct in conjunction with Electro for extra damage.
Cryo can be Swirled with Anemo, Crystalised with Geo, Superconducted (and Stellar Conducted) with Electro, Freeze enemies with Hydro, Melt enemies with Pyro, and naturally slows down the movement and attack speed of any enemies afflicted by it.
Elemental Reactions

The basis of Genshin’s combat system, each element in Teyvat has unique interactions with each other.
- Swirl: The elemental reaction that is formed when Anemo comes into contact with Pyro, Hydro, Cryo or Electro. Hitting anyone affected by one of these elements with an Anemo-based attack causes an element-infused burst of wind to shoot out, damaging and applying the swirled element onto any nearby enemies, opening them up for other elemental reactions.
- Crystallise: The premier Geo reaction that occurs when a Geo-based attack comes into contact with opponents inflicted with Pyro, Hydro, Cryo or Electro. When this occurs, floating elemental crystals are formed corresponding to the element that is being crystallised. When these crystals are touched, they form an elemental shield around the one who touched them, protecting them from attacks. These shields have stronger durability against the element they share; for example, a Pyro shield can take more hits from fire-based attacks compared to, say, earth-based attacks.
- Overloaded: The reaction that happens when Pyro and Electro come into contact with each other. When these two volatile elements make contact, an explosion that deals Pyro-aligned damage is formed, hitting all nearby enemies and knocking them back. Due to the blunt force of this reaction, it is very good at destroying physical shields and constructs.
- Electro-Charged: This reaction is caused when Hydro and Electro come into contact with each other. This causes an electric current that damages anyone inflicted with it constantly for a period of time. This current not only sticks to one person, but can travel to other enemies nearby if they have also been affected by Hydro.
- Super-Conduct: Triggered when Cryo or Electro hits an enemy inflicted with the other element, it unleashes a blast of cold air that damages all nearby enemies. This reaction directly lowers the opponent’s resistance to physical attacks by 40%. When utilising his Cryo abilities, Aether is one of the rare few who can create a Polestar Field which not only changes his Super-Conduct attacks into the much more powerful Stellar-Conduct reaction.
- Catalyse: A set of reactions that occur with the combination of Electro and Dendro. When Dendro or Electro is applied to a character who has the opposing element applied already, a Quicken aura is applied. Then when a Dendro aligned attack hits, the reaction becomes Spread. If a Quicken aura is hit with Electro, the reaction becomes Aggravate. These both enhance the damage dealt by their respective elements.
- Bloom: When someone inflicted with Hydro or Dendro is hit with the opposing element, a Bloom core is created. This small plant bud then will explode dealing Dendro aligned damage to everyone around it. However, when this bud is hit with a Pyro aligned attack, it explodes with greater range and deals massive dendro aligned damage in a reaction known as Burgeon. When Electro comes into contact with a Bloom core instead of Pyro, the core becomes a Sprawling Shot which homes in on the opponent, dealing enhanced Dendro damage to them in a reaction called Hyperbloom.
- Burning: A reaction that is created when Dendro and Pyro make contact with each other. When Burning is triggered on an opponent, they are set ablaze. Due to the nature of this reaction, the opponent is constantly applied with Pyro which opens them up to other elemental reactions.
- Vaporise: The reaction when Pyro or Hydro hits the other. This reaction increases the damage of the Pyro or Hydro attack that hits the opponent. It should be noted that if Vaporise is triggered by Hydro hitting an opponent applied with Pyro, the enhanced damage is even greater if done the other way around.
- Frozen: When Hydro comes into contact with Cryo, the Frozen reaction is applied and the opponent is frozen solid. Due to Cryo being constantly applied to this state, this opens the opponent up to any other cryo based reactions when another element comes into contact with them.
- Melt: When Pyro comes into contact with Cryo or vice versa, this reaction happens. Similar to Vaporise, this reaction serves as a simple damage enhancement for the element that hits the opponent to trigger the reaction. However, the damage multiplier for Pyro induced Melt is higher than if triggered by Cryo.
Elemental Sight

In Teyvat, some people with high elemental sensitivity can use Elemental Sight, but even among Allogenes, this is a rare trait. Using the ability, one can see elemental traces left behind by anything with an elemental connection, no matter how faint. Despite not having a Vision, Aether’s elemental sensitivity is noted by Lisa to be “very strong”, and she’s one of Teyvat’s foremost experts in this field.
Elemental Sight can be used for a multitude of purposes, such as tracking a person’s movements, locating weaknesses in walls that can be broken, finding Seelies, discerning any elemental attributes a person or foe has, highlighting objects, and so on.
Constellations

In Genshin Impact, a character has something called Constellations, which grant all sorts of unique benefits. In lore, the stars in Teyvat are connected to the concept of fate, and constellations are basically an expansion of that. In gameplay, though they obviously aren’t literally dropping giant gas balls on their opponents, they give the character all sorts of buffs which the only price being you have to get really lucky with your gacha rolls (or be prepared to spend lots of money) and get several copies of them… but since Aether is a free to play character, he can unlock them through just playing the game normally without spending a dime!
Since Aether can swap between elements, he has unique constellation buffs for each of them. Which are:
Anemo
- Raging Vortex: Palm Vortex gains a pulling in effect to opponents and objects within 5 metres.
- Uprising Whirlwind: Increases Aether’s Energy Recharge by 16%.

- Vortex Stellaris: The maximum level/power of Palm Vortex increases to 15.
- Intertwined Winds: Hitting anyone with Gust Surge has their Anemo resistance reduced by 20% and if an Elemental Absorption happens, the resistance for that element is decreased too.
Geo
- Invincible Stonewall: Any party members within the range of Wake of Earth have their critical hit rate increase by 10% and gain more resistance to being interrupted.

- Viridian Transience: The maximum level/power of Surgent Manifestation increases to 15.
- Withering Aggregation: When under the effect of Overflowing Lotuslight, Dendro damage will increase by 12%. If the Lea Lotus Lamp experienced a Lotuslight Transfiguration, the damage will increase by 12% for that respective element as well.
Hydro

- Pouring Descent: When using Aquacrest Saber, a shield called the Aquacrest Aegis will be created, absorbing 10% of Aether’s max HP and absorb Hydro damage with 250% effectiveness. It’ll keep going until Aether finishes the skill. Plus, if a Dewdrop hits an opponent, the Aquacrest Aegis will restore 10% of Aether’s HP.
- Churning Whirlpool: The maximum level/power of Rising Waters increases to 15.
- Tides of Justice: When Aether picks up a Sourcewater Droplet, the party member with the lowest HP will have 6% of their HP restored.
Pyro (It should be noted that some effects are exclusive to the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire weekly boss and questionable if considered standard. We’ll list them regardless to be comprehensive, but we’ll note them as well.)
- Starfire’s Flowing Light:Upon activating Blazing Threshold/Scotching Threshold, Aether’s damage will increase by 6% and if he’s in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, another 9% damage will increase.
- When fighting the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire Boss, Aether will take 40% less damage, increase his power by 40% and interruption resistance is increased.
- Ever-Lit Candle:After using Flowfire Blade, if nearby party members use a Pyro-related reaction on an enemy, Aether will regain 14 Nightsoul points.
- When fighting the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire Boss, while in Nightsoul’s Blessing state, the Pyro resistance will decrease upon hitting an opponent with Pyro attacks.
- Relayed Beacon:The maximum level/power of Flowfire Blade increases to 15.
- When fighting the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire Boss, Aether gains 40% extra Pyro damage.
- Ravaging Flame:After using Plains Scorcher, Aether gains 20% Pyro damage for 9 seconds.
- When fighting the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire Boss, all nearby party members will restore their health by 40% and Aether will regain 4 energy per second for 10 seconds.
- The Fire Inextinguishable:The maximum level/power of Plains Scorcher increases to 15.
- When fighting the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire Boss, Aether’s critical hit rate increases by 20% and critical damage increases by 40%.
- The Sacred Flame Imperishable:While in Nightsoul’s Blessing state, Aether’s attacks will be converted to Nightsoul-aligned Pyro damage and the critical damage will increase by 40% as well.
- When fighting the Lord of Eroded Primal Fire Boss, Aether’s movement speed will increase by 20%, the stamina usage is decreased by 30% and his normal and charged attacks will send out fire waves to deal damage.
Flight

Originally, Aether and Lumine possessed six light wings which they could use to fly naturally, but after having his power sealed away by Asmoday, Aether has yet to regain this ability. Although offsetting this loss with his Wind Glider, Aether will likely regain his full abilities by the end of the story.
Item Summoning

In Genshin Impact, each character has the ability to summon and dismiss their weapon out of thin air, appearing and disappearing in motes of light. This personal item summoning ability isn’t just limited to weapons though, but extends to anything they could reasonably carry on their person or may need in their day to day life. This is frequently seen in character idle animations, but is also directly referenced both in lore and in game cutscenes.
For example, Amber is able to summon her Baron Bunnies endlessly, Keqing summons her work scrolls, Yanfei summons her legal textbook, Itto summons his hair comb, Chiori summons her Tamoto doll, Nicole summons her statues to carve, Kazuha summons his leaf, Ayaka summons her fan, Ayato summons his milk tea, Navia summons her umbrella and sunglasses, and the list goes on.
Teleportation

Throughout the world of Teyvat are Teleport Waypoints that only Aether can use to fast travel to different locations on the map, and with at least 670 permanent waypoints, there’s definitely a lot to choose from! Outside of their primary ability, these waypoints also mitigate lethal hazards, acting as sources of warmth against the Sheer Cold in freezing cold areas like Dragonspine and cleansing the Decay accumulated in Withering Zones in Sumeru.
Statues of the Seven, Statues of the New Moon, and Domains also act as Teleport Waypoints. The statues can at most heal Aether completely if he’s within their range, relying on the Statue’s Blessing and its collective pool of HP known as Restorative Power.
Parry

As a natural with a blade, Aether developed the ability to parry oncoming attacks. Just holding the Parry decreases damage by 80%, but hitting a Perfect Parry negates all damage, and Aether can counterattack, dealing massive Physical damage. Parrying also works exactly the same against ranged and elemental attacks, deflecting them back at the opponent. Plus, Parrying Burning Grass actually heals him, somehow.
Arana’s Song

With Arana’s song, Aether is able to enter and exit dreamscapes as long as there are the small Aranara built Silapna are nearby.
Indwelling

Aether is able to indwell his spirit within the various Saurians and Asha of Natlan, taking control of their bodies and using their abilities to solve puzzles or explore Natlan. Aether is also capable of simply transforming into Saurians at will.
- Tepetlisaurs deal Geo damage and can dig underground, and climb Solid Phlogiston crystals.
- Yumkasaurs deal Dendro damage and can grapple through the air, scale walls, and throw objects at foes.
- Koholasaurs deal Hydro damage and can swim through water, Liquid Phlogiston, and spiritways.
- Qucusaurs deal Pyro damage and can fly through the air and Gaseous Phlogiston.
- Iktomisaurs deal Cryo damage and can fly, as well as store and move objects and attributes.
- Tatankasaurs deal Electro damage and can charge at high speeds to cross large gaps, and destroy rocks and boulders.
Forcefields

Aether is able to use Elemental Energy to create shields and forcefields to block attacks. He makes an Anemo forcefield during his first fight against Tartaglia, as well as Mavuika’s Story Quest, and famously creates a massive one together with Flins in the Nod-Krai Archon Quest to block Aino’s Kuuvahki Cannon laser.
Adaptation

Aether has always been a quick study, but his ability to adapt to various phenomena and situations is really quite remarkable. His body was able to effortlessly adapt to Kuuvahki Energy without any negative repercussions, and Aether’s ability to absorb Abyssal Energy has grown tremendously over the course of his travels in Teyvat.
When faced with difficult opponents, Aether’s likewise always been quick to adjust his strategies and fighting style to come out on top. Like when Raiden Ei initially overwhelmed him in their first clash, but he underwent training designed to learn her skills and styles and they drew in their second fight. Against Scaramouche with the Electro Gnosis in the Shouki no Kami, Aether and Nahida had to run the simulation Samsaras against him 168 times in order to get their perfect opportunity, and Aether’s battle abilities kept increasing as he played the fight over and over again until he made that perfect moment Nahida needed.
While Aether originally needed the help of Neuvillette to beat the All-Devouring Narwhal during Fontaine, his rigorous training with Skirk meant he fought evenly with her against Skofnungr, a much more intelligent foe with the Narwhal’s power who had spent 500 years collating his strength. And Arlecchino beat Aether during her Story Quest fight in Fontaine, but after all he’d been through, the two were on equal grounds during Nod-Krai, even after her amp with the Iridescent Moon’s Marrow.
Blessings

Aether has received various different types of blessings across his time walking the world of Teyvat. Most prominently, his close relationship with Columbina led to her granting him the New Moon’s Blessing in his fight against Il Dottore, increasing his abilities all around. And afterwards on the Frost Moon, she lifted some of the restrictions that had been placed on him, allowing Aether to use the elements more freely, and with greater power.
Aether has also received the blessings of various Archons and godly beings during his journey, such as Venti giving him unlimited flight, stamina and wind bullets during Dvalin’s mad Abyss-fuelled attack on Mondstadt, or Neuvillette granting him power and protection during their fight against the All-Devouring Narwhal. Statues of the Seven and Statues of the New Moon also grant Aether their blessings, and after giving them various Oculi he’s collected, he increased his stamina to the max. Now, they give him a passive full heal across his entire party after being near them, and Fontaine’s Statue additionally granted Aether the power to breathe underwater (in Fontaine specifically) for as long as his stamina remains.
Enhanced Senses & Non-Physical Interaction

Aether’s senses have always been superhuman, able to see, aim and react at incredible distances, but beyond that, he’s shown the ability to see ghosts and spirits normally invisible to the naked eye on multiple different occasions. Aether can also interact with Elemental Oculi, which are non-physical entities, and he’s capable of seeing Aranara despite being an adult, due to his link with Dendro.
Abyssal Absorption

An ability seemingly unique to Aether and Lumine, both siblings have the ability to absorb Abyssal energy into their bodies. Frequently thought by characters in-game to be a form of purification, it acts in a similar manner by drawing all the Abyssal energy into them and leaving the source devoid of it. King Irmin of Khaenri’ah used this ability in the past to have Lumine absorb nearly infinite amounts of Abyssal energy to strengthen her, and by proxy, Khaenri’ah’s might, and Aether has done the same several times throughout his journey in Teyvat. Primarily seen in Mondstadt when trying to save Dvalin, in Natlan during the Abyss War, and in Nod-Krai against Rerir, while direct Abyssal contact would be highly lethal for anyone else, the twins are able to handle it with little to no negative side-effects or repercussions. However, continued absorption of Abyssal energy will eventually cause a strain on Aether, as showcased when he tried to absorb the incredibly strong and constant flow of Abyssal energy being emitted from Citlali’s Spiritspeaker Stone.
Phlogiston

A unique energy and matter from Natlan that was utilised by the ancient Dragons, and as such is one of the most ancient and primordial forms of energy. This matter is extremely great at storing information and was used for that purpose by the ancient dragons to form code, language and script.
Lunar Energies
Kuuvahki Energy

Upon arriving in Nod-Krai, Aether, with the aid of the many plants and the beings known as Kuuhenki, gained the ability to manipulate Kuuvahki. While enhanced with this energy, Aether is able to interact with various things within Nod-Krai in multiple ways, such as temporarily turning into a Kuuhenki, grabbing nearby objects enhanced with Kuuvahki, or jumping higher than normal.
Archaeolune Energy

While on the Frost Moon, Aether is capable of utilising this ancient energy with similarities to both Kuuvahki and Phlogiston. While using this energy, Aether is able to use Archaeolune Ripples which can be launched and detonated to launch anything nearby into the air in a zero gravity state. He is also capable of using the Moonlight Dash which transforms him into a Kuuhenki to dash in a specific direction.
Resistances
Whether it be due to his alien biology or sheer toughness powering through the obstacles in his way, Aether has had to face many different esoteric attacks and forces aside from fists, blades and elemental attacks, and has thus showcased a number of resistances throughout his time in Teyvat.
- Poison/Corrosion/Corruption/Diseases/Insanity/Mental Degradation – Aether has endured Abyssal Durin’s Blood, which carries many of these properties, as well as Xiao’s Karma, which have similar effects on humans. Aether also powered through Withering Zones and received Forbidden Knowledge, which has similar overlap mostly on the mental side.
- Extreme Temperatures – Aether frequently ventures across Dragonspine’s sub-zero temperatures and can survive the vacuum of outer space. He’s also been extremely close to lava, and scaled Natlan’s volcano. Likewise, he pushed through both extremes in the fight against La Signora.
- Space Survival – Aether is entirely fine in the vacuum of space, not requiring oxygen to survive and shrugging off temperatures of −270 °C/−455 °F.
- Fate Manipulation – As an Outlander in Teyvat, Aether is not logged within the information of Irminsul and thus unaffected by the Fate system which governs the future of Teyvat’s inhabitants, binding them to pre-determined outcomes.
- Elemental Energy – Vast enough concentrations of Elemental energy can be harmful for those without elemental sensitivity, such as prolonged exposure to Noctilucus Jade. Aether has never suffered any negative effects.
- Abyssal Energy – Aether’s unique biology allows him to absorb untold amounts of Abyssal energy without repercussions, when contact with it is highly dangerous at best, or outright fatal at worst.
- Lunar Energy – Similarly, high concentrations of Kuuvahki energy can cause intense nosebleeds, dizziness, headaches, and nausea, even death at a high enough exposure, but Aether was entirely unaffected, even after Nicole increased her infusion to five times greater than before. Archaeolune Energy is an even stronger form of Kuuvahki Energy, and Aether was likewise entirely fine when exposed to it.
- Sensory Manipulation – Aether kept fighting against Il Dottore despite his stolen Trilunar Authority allowing him to alter his directions, perceptions and senses.
- Time Stop – Aether was the only one unaffected by Il Dottore’s time stop during their fight at the climax of the Nod-Krai Archon Quest.

Scaling
Mondstadt

As the Traveler’s journey begins in Mondstadt, there’s obviously no question of scaling here. Mondstadt is filled with capable knights, mages, and a deceptively powerful Archon. As the Traveler has gained far more power since the start of Genshin Impact, it’s easy to compare Traveler to Mondstadt’s finest.
- Lisa can create storms that cover the horizon (5.18 Megatons)
- Noelle lifted an extremely heavy bookshelf one-handed, several full cargo carts and threw them into Cider Lake, and carried a man on her back for hours down Dragonspine mountain to safety
- Noelle shatters claymores upon her swing and once accidentally swung her claymore all the way from the Wolvendom plains, across Cider Lake and into the Mondstadt Cathedral’s bell tower
- Eula blocked a Fatui Skirmisher’s Pyro Bullet (Mach 2)
- Klee levelled the Stormbearer Mountains
- Alice blew up Decarabian’s tower because it didn’t look “ruins-y” enough
- Venti terraformed Mondstadt and tossed Pilos Peak into the sea (24.62 Teratons of TNT)
- Venti threw the Golden Apple Archipelago very far away from the mainland, with it ending on neutral waters.
- Andrius covered all of Mondstadt in freezing winds and blizzards (5.8 Gigatons of TNT)
- Decarabian surrounded Old Mondstadt in his storm barrier, which has lasted to this day
- Varka defeated the Abyss-corrupted Dvalin in Alice & Nicole’s Bubble world
Liyue

The Traveler has shared battlefields with Liyue’s Qixing members, and their most seasoned Adepti. Moreover, the Traveler has confronted some of Liyue’s most dangerous beings, like Osial and Azhdaha. The Traveler has since become much more powerful, which easily justifies the scaling here.
- Ningguang creates a storm during the rite of descension
- Xiao fought demons for 24 hours straight during Lantern Rite
- Yelan swings a man really fast to block an arrow (Mach 2.5)
- Primo Geovishap creates earthquakesfelt throughout Tianqiu Valley and Nantianmen(15.146 Kilotons – 296 Megatons of TNT)
- Rex Lapis creates the Guyun Stone Forest with giant spears of rock. Notably, Zhongli says these spears were much greater in number and size
- Rex Lapis collapsed mountains as a side effect of his battles with other gods.

- Shenhe easily lifts a gigantic chunk of Plaustrite (367,509.42 Kilograms)
- Azhdaha’s movements are stated to shake the earth
Inazuma

(Kaedehara Kazuha is the GOAT)
The Traveler arrived in Inazuma under the hostile conditions of the Inazuma Civil War, fighting alongside and against the nation’s most efficient battlefield leaders. At the height of the conflict, the Traveler confronted the Electro Archon, Raiden Shogun, easily making Traveler comparable to Inazuma’s people.
- Raiden Ei split Yashiori Island to kill the god Orobashi (12 Gigatons – 9.58 Teratons of TNT)
- Said Serpent God, Orobashi also created Watatsumi Island.
- Ei creates storms around Inazuma
- Aether is directly trained to be capable of reacting to and dodging Raiden Ei’s attacks.
- Thunder Manifestation is the cause of a storm covering Seirai Island, and defeating it calms the storm. (18.42 Megatons of TNT)
- The remnant traces of Orobashi’s power threatened to blow up the entirety of Kannazuka Island (27.46 Gigatons of TNT)
- Scaramouche defeats a group of Elite Samurai in a “blink of an eye”
- Kirara frequently runs across all of Teyvat to deliver her packages
Sumeru

Navigating the crises at the center of Sumeru, the Traveler did so alongside the most academically gifted minds in Teyvat. More impressively, the Traveler endured the reality-looping power of Shouki no Kami. Overcoming those great odds more than enables the Traveler to scale to Sumeru’s best.
- Scaramouche creates a storm powered by the Electro Gnosis
- Characters can dodge lasers that bounce off mirrors and go in a straight line without force (0.338c)
- Wanderer defeats Shouki No Kami.
Fontaine

Caught in the thick of Fontaine’s apocalyptic prophecy, the Traveler defied the nation’s very destiny to prevent calamity. In doing so, the Traveler fought alongside the highest authorities to defeat the All-Devouring Narwhal, making it fair game to compare Traveler to them.
- Furina accidentally floods her entire building
- Clorinde blitzes a Gardemek army and slashes a missile (Mach 3.14 – Mach 14.1)
- Freminet states that the Dragon of Water formed clouds above Fontaine
- Wriothesley froze part of the Primordial Sea trying to break through the Fortress of Meropide
- Neuvillette forgives the Fontainians for their sins, creating clouds above Fontaine (1.695 Gigatons)
- Neuvillette covers the entirety of Fontaine in Hydro energy (Mach 3646)
Natlan

Despite not being native to Natlan, let alone Teyvat, the Traveler received an Ancient Name, thus considered equal to Natlan’s most promising warriors with Ancient Names, all of them working together in Natlan’s war with the Abyss. As such, the Traveler comfortably scales to the warriors of Natlan.
- Mavuika fights faster than eyesight against Capitano and the Pyro Archon Xbalanque.
- Mavuika can slice through large chunks of ice
- Varesa can run on water via sheer speed
- Varesa is so fast she can run from Mondstadt to Natlan in a day at full speed
- Ordinary transport takes several days to get between the two nations
Nod-Krai

The Traveler fought alongside the factions of Nod-Krai. More importantly, the Traveler safely contained a Moon Marrow, allowing the Traveler to scale to other Moon Marrow bearers and those with comparable power. Columbina also lifted limitations imposed upon the Traveler’s power by the Heavenly Principles.
- Ineffa lifted and physically redirected the Kuuvahki Cannon
- Jahoda stalled an attack from a powered-up Rerir with an arrow
- Varka stalemated Andrius all by himself without a vision
- Varka and Arlecchino helped move the Frost Moon down to Teyvat (9.32 Zettatons of TNT for the whole thing, 3.1 Zettatons for how much Varka and Arlecchino individually contributed)
The Abyss

From the outset, the Traveler has strived to reunite with their sibling. However, the ongoing feud between them has forced the Traveler to contend with the Abyss Order’s strongest enforcers. Additionally, the Traveler received training from Skirk, a fellow Outlander whose power comes from the Abyss itself.
- Abyssal Durin laid waste to Mondstadt and nearly killed the Anemo Dragon, Dvalin
- Skirk flies across a planet during her Elemental Burst animation
- The All-Devouring Narwhal is said to be able to eat planets and stars
Weaknesses

Although not a weakness in the traditional sense, Aether’s original powers remain sealed. As such, he is forced to rely on resonating with different elemental energies in Teyvat to rebuild his lost strength. While that has proven effective throughout his journey, Aether is nowhere near his cosmic, world-traveling levels of power. The degrees of power Aether lost left him vulnerable to phenomena during his time in Teyvat, such as the Sabzeruz Samsara. While Aether did figure out he was inside a dream space, he was still caught in the loop in the first place. Furthermore, Arlecchino was successful in using an illusion of the Crimson Moon to paralyse Aether during their fight.
When it comes to traditional weaknesses, there’s nothing that really stands out for Aether. He’s a jack-of-all-trades, master of all, but his biology is mostly human-ish at the end of the day. He can be injured, grow tired, get exhausted, and still requires sleep eventually despite being able to keep going for great periods of time. It should also be mentioned that a number of Aether’s victories, especially against higher-end threats like the All-Devouring Narwhal or Raiden Ei, were not won under his power alone. As those victories were attributed to large pools of power; or Aether had assistance, such as Neuvillette against the All-Devouring Narwhal.
Plus, watching your entire planet and people die, finally finding a new home, and then having to fight against your sister to save it would absolutely suck emotionally.

Before the Verdict
Aang
That fighting game thing

An extremely hot and possibly game-changing argument dropped with the release of the Avatar Legends Fighting Game, where we see Vaatu sustaining a Rift that was going to not only destroy the Spirit World, but the Real World as well, and required Aang, Korra, and Kyoshi working together to beat him, this could give the Avatar cast a massive jump to 2x Universal, completely washing anything we know of Genshin Impact that either Aether can scale to. But is it actually standard? Well… no.
The events of Avatar Legends are set in a reality created by Harmonic Convergence, where the Harmonic Rift has merged different eras together, spirits and humans from different points in history coexist, personalities and memories are rewritten through Riftbending, and they actually have to learn this ability to regain their real selves, all while the fabric of reality itself is on the verge of collapse.
If you only watched ATLA and never watched The Legend of Korra and went straight to the game, you might not know what the Harmonic Convergence is. Basically, it’s a once-in-10000-years cosmic event that massively amplifies spiritual energy. During it, the planets align, the Spirit Portals at the North and South Poles merge, and the resulting wave of spiritual energy spreads across the entire Earth. Korra’s battle with Unalaq fused with Vaatu in Book 2 is already a case of Harmonic Convergence temporarily pushing the verse to a level it normally can’t reach, and Avatar Legends doesn’t exactly help its case when the entire story only happens because of that same event.
Because of this, Vaatu’s power during the game’s climax, along with the heroes scaling to this version of him, shouldn’t be treated as standard. Just like Korra’s Harmonic Convergence feats in Book 2, these are the result of a very unique set of circumstances that are impossible to replicate in this context. Nothing else in the franchise suggests the cast can normally reach anywhere near this level of power, and let’s be honest: without Harmonic Convergence to explain it, these feats would be huge outliers anyway.
But wait, someone might ask “But only Ozai is directly said to be growing stronger in the story! Why would I assume the cast is being buffed by Harmonic Convergence?” That’s actually a fair question, but the game also answers this: it’s stated multiple times that it is Vaatu who has been secretly giving him more power while also manipulating him throughout the story in the disguise of the Cabbage Man (yes, this is real) before eventually revealing himself. Given the game establishes that Ozai is receiving an additional source of power beyond the Harmonic Rift itself, it shouldn’t be evidence that everyone else remained completely unaffected, and if anything, this explains why the narrative repeatedly draws attention to his increasing strength specifically. Vaatu also has a single moment in the game where he messes with Aang’s level of chi, as well as Guru Sokka being a thing.
Also, if they weren’t being amped, even if you discard the “it’s an outlier” argument, there’s another problem that comes with the argument: the scaling becomes completely circular. Avatar Legends would have you believe that Book 3 Korra (based on her haircut, she can’t be Book 4, and her knowledge of events can only align with Book 3) can fight a version of Vaatu who’s empowered by Harmonic Convergence and sustaining the Harmonic Rift, putting her at roughly 2x Universal with no issue whatsoever, despite Book 2 showing that even Harmonic Convergence-amped Korra could barely match him. That makes very little sense, especially considering Korra isn’t shown to be dramatically stronger by Book 3, or even stronger at all, given she had just lost her connection to every past Avatar at the end of Book 2.
So, at the end of the day, these aren’t feats that should be treated as standard for the Avatar cast. They’re performed during Harmonic Convergence, inside an artificial reality filled with an abnormal amount of spiritual energy, against an amped Vaatu, and to top it off would be extremely circular ignoring all these. Even without all of those circumstances, they’d still be huge outliers compared to everything else we’ve seen in Avatar. At best, you could argue these feats apply to Aang, Korra, and Kyoshi specifically while empowered by Harmonic Convergence and fighting within the Harmonic Rift.
Also, while advertised as such for the Story Mode, this game has no reason to fit the canon of the verse given its inconsistencies within the timeline. It is shown that the main characters kept their memories after the events of the game, which would mean Gaang already met Korra while they were kids, which makes no sense given Korra met elderly Toph in Book 4 of her series without either having any memories of each other.
Aether
The All Devouring Narwhal
& its Black Hole

During the battle with the great narwhal, Aether had to destroy the “eye of the maelstrom” to attract the Narwhals attention. Notably, this eye appears to be and is described to be a miniature black hole. With its in-game description reading that it has weight far exceeding what is expected for its size and that light cannot escape from its vortex.
If we took Aether’s feat into account, he would be much, much stronger than the Frost Moon feat sitting at 9.31 Yottatons. Though this would come at first with the caveat of being significantly buffed by Neuvillette to an unknown degree during the boss. Fortunately, Skirk later takes out the Narwhal with little effort, and as we’ve established Aether should likely downscale her by some degree by the end of Nod-Krai. She also seems to imply that Neuvillette’s buff was entirely defensive, adding an asterisk to this buff.
However, Skirk is partly the reason this black hole feat can also be contended. After the Narwhal’s defeat, Skirk seems to condense the Narwhal into one of these lightless eyes and tosses it into void space. This would mean its mass is made up of the Narwhal, and thus wouldn’t actually have the mass of a black hole. Suggesting that the other Maelstroms may not entirely have the mass of a black hole and instead are formed of other masses related to the Narwhal.
Ultimately, it is up to you on whether or not you would like to take this into account, but we are leaning on the side of caution for this blog.
Pulling Down the Frost Moon

In the climax of Nod Krai, Aether, Sandrone, Arlecchino, Nicole, and Varka all devised a plan to reconnect Columbina to the world by pulling the moon closer to Teyvat and regain her authority as the Trilune Goddess. With part of their plan involving Arlecchino, Varka, and Nicole combining their strength to pull down the moon.
A counter argument that can be made in regards to this feat is that Sandrone’s World Formula was somehow physically moving the moon in of itself. With the formula doing 90 percent of the work while everyone else would have been doing about 3 percent individually. Greatly weakening the feat in turn if this turned out to be the case. However, the World Formula does not work that way.
Sandrone’s World Formula is formed to predict and ensure certain outcomes. In the case of the battle with Dottore and moving the moon to connect Columbina to the world, the formula was predicting the likelihood of Columbina’s reconnection while also adding in Aether, who as a Descender is not bound to the fate of the world and can alter the likelihood of events. It was predetermined that Columbina would be unable to come back from the frost moon, yet Aether’s presence added another variable. We can see this take form quickly after Sandrone is knocked to the floor by Dottore, where Aether’s presence was just enough to buy Arlecchino, Nicole, and Varka the time to pull down the moon, increasing the likelihood of their success from 90 percent to 100.
TLDR; The world formula was only used to ensure the likelihood of fate playing into Sandrone and Aether’s favour. It had nothing to do with physically pulling the moon down itself.
Verdict

Elemental Mastery
One of the biggest draws to this match is seeing how Avatar and Genshin Impact’s respective elemental systems work and play off each other, with the variety of different techniques and styles Aang and Aether have learned across their journeys. Both the Last Airbender and Witness of Teyvat have their own unique ways to control the fundamental aspects of their worlds, but does Bending or Elemental Energy serve their champions better? Before that though, we’ll have to look at how it all works in the first place.
In Avatar, the way benders manipulate the elements is through a mixture of specific styles and techniques, breath, bodily movements, and it all comes together by extending one’s chi outward to manipulate the existing environment. Aang’s bread and butter is his Airbending, forming it into streams and slashes, balls to ride around on, vortexes and forcefields, tornadoes, gusts of wind, using it to cover his limbs and boost his strength, creating pressurised bursts, allowing him to fly, and Airbenders like Zaheer have shown the ability to steal the air from someone’s lungs (not that Aang would do this, being a pacifist and all, but he could).
With Waterbending, he controls water, moving it in streams, forming whips, large waves, controlling rain, healing with water thanks to Katara’s tutelage, and freezing it into ice, whether to freeze floors, trap foes, making ice balls, or creating ice armour. With Earthbending, Aang controls the very earth around him, launching rocks, altering the ground levels, forming stone walls and pillars, throwing boulders, creating landslides, turning the ground into quicksand to trap enemies, and fashioning earth armour around himself during battle. He even once made a giant rock titan in the Avatar State. And through Earthbending, Aang can use his Seismic Sense to detect vibrations in the ground like sonar, keeping track of movements even if he can’t see.
Firebending naturally manipulates fire, creating fireballs, bursts, jets, streams, waves and blasts of flame, even forming shapes with it, like dragons, daggers, whips, bubbles, walls, and using it like jet propulsion. Aang also learned how to combine it with Airbending for extremely powerful wind-enhanced fire blasts, and was taught how to redirect lightning, though hesitation or failing to direct it away in time could prove a deadly mistake, and it nearly killed Zuko. From the Lion Turtle, Aang was also taught how to Energybend, wherein he manipulates a person’s chi and blocks their ability to bend the elements. Then finally there’s the Avatar State, where the spirits of past Avatars give Aang their wisdom, strength and experience to aid him in battle, allowing Aang to use their techniques, even if he never directly learned them.
In Genshin Impact, Elemental Energy is itself a fundamental aspect of the world which has been around ever since Nibelung and the Seven Dragon Sovereigns first ruled Teyvat. These different energies aren’t simply just water, fire, air, and the like, but can be manipulated to take on those forms. Elemental Energy can form beings entirely made of that energy at different intensities, like Slimes with a smaller amount, Hypostases with medium concentration, Frostnight Scions with large amounts, and the Oceanids, which are formed purely from Hydro, and took on human forms to become the people of Fontaine back under Egeria’s rule.
Control of Elemental Energy in Teyvat requires Authority over that element. When the Heavenly Principles stole the Dragon Sovereign’s Authorities and put them into the Divine Thrones, the elected Archon who won that seat during the Archon War, or following successors, would possess complete Authority over that element under Celestia. Allogenes who wield Visions are gifted a portion of that Authority, which allows them to control their specific element, and that Authority stays with the Vision even if the wielder should perish. Like with Kazuha, who was briefly able to awaken his dead best friend’s Electro Vision by aligning with the ideals and ambition which granted him that vision in the first place.
Aether is able to bypass this process and connect himself to the elements directly by resonating with the Statues of the Seven. It took a little bit of extra time in Natlan due to the Ley Lines being messed up and the Abyss’ contamination, but once they got that all sorted out, it was easy going. Anemo was the first element, letting Aether control it directly and form it into wind to create forcefields, wind blades, tornadoes, vortexes, swirling drafts, gusts, and the like. With Geo, he can create shields, control rocks and the earth, shatter stones, enhance his body for greater strength, summon Geo Constructs and launch shockwaves that directly deal Geo damage while also forming stone walls.
With Electro, Aether can manipulate electricity, briefly turning into electricity himself, forming it into swords, or a giant extended blade, creating Abundance Amulets to restore his energy, and summoning lightning to blast back foes. With Dendro, Aether can control and manipulate life energy. He’s able to send a wave of Dendro to latch onto the target in front of him, and summon a “lamp” which deals consistent Dendro damage within its area of effect. It can also pair up with Hydro, Electro and Pyro for greater range, speed and damage respectively. With Hydro, Aether can form and manipulate water, shooting out water bullets or making water bubbles to continually damage foes nearby.
After gaining the power of Pyro, Aether can enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, summoning a Blazing Threshold to deal Pyro damage to his foes, or summoning a Scorching Threshold to launch co-ordinated attacks alongside him. He can also unleash the fire in bursts and infuse it into his sword, as well as restore his own Nightsoul points to re-enter the state for another boost. Lastly, while Cryo is yet to release, we’ve seen Aether manifest a Cryo polearm to throw at enemies, alter terrain in specific areas, and enemies affected by Cryo also have their speed slowed down. His various Constellations also help increase the effectiveness of all of his skills.
Alongside all of the elements Aether can directly manifest, he can also use Elemental Sight to locate any being with an elemental affinity, even if they have multiple elements, and track where they’ve been to find them. While Aether has lost the ability to fly freely, he can glide with his wind glider and boost himself with Anemo to make up the difference. Aether’s also able to teleport around between specific locations, and make ones with his Teleport Waypoint, summon his weapons to his hand, create a couple different types of forcefields, and control the Kuuvahki and Archaeolune Energy around him to manipulate magnetism and gravity, respectively, as well as directly manipulating Phlogiston thanks to his connection to Pyro.
So with all of their abilities laid out, how does this go down? Well firstly, there’s actually a lot of overlap in what both can do with their elements. Controlling wind to form blades, breezes, forcefields, and the like, blasting water bubbles, shooting fire, and shifting earth, but Aether does have access to three more elements than Aang does. There’s no direct Dendro equivalent in Avatar, and control over plants comes from the moisture within by Waterbenders, but Dendro is just life energy, no Hydro required. Aang is able to re-direct lightning, but Electro also boosts Aether’s speed and can form weapons, and much the same with Cryo given the polearm we’ve seen him use thus far. Plus, Cryo isn’t made out of solidified water, so Aang wouldn’t be able to Waterbend it, despite his ice-related abilities.
However Aang does have more versatility and variety with his elements compared to Aether. He focused on his four to master them as much as he could, and found new and inventive ways in controlling the world around him. Plus, with his extra years refining his control by the time of The Legend of Korra, it’s essentially a case of quantity vs quality. Not that Aether is lacking in quality either though, as where Aang mastered the extent he could push his bending to, Aether mastered mixing and matching the elements to create Elemental Reactions. Drastically increasing his damage output against opponents by afflicting them with different elements, Aether can directly create any kind of reaction he wants thanks to Aang’s use of the elements.
Against Aang using Airbending, Aether can swirl Pyro, Hydro, Electro and Cryo. Against Earthbending, Aether can force the creation of elemental shields. Against Firebending, Aether can create Melt with Cryo, Overload with Electro, Burning with Dendro, Vaporise with Hydro, and Burgeon with both Dendro and Hydro. Against Waterbending, Aether can create Freeze with Hydro, Electro-Charged with Electro, Bloom with Dendro, and Hyperbloom with Electro and Dendro, putting aside the previously mentioned abilities. All of this means that Aether will always have more elements and combinations to play off of whatever he wants to use, and adapt to what Aang’s bringing out in return.
He can even counter the Seismic Sense, as it only tracks vibrations on the ground, and Aether can keep himself in the air continually with Anemo, like what Aang did to Toph when they first met. Conversely, Aang has no way to prevent Aether keeping track of his every move with Elemental Sight, as he’s constantly connected to all the elements as the Avatar. Plus, Aether also can teleport to get himself out of danger, create massive forcefields to protect himself from anything Aang could slip through his guard, and summon any of his weapons, ensuring he’s never disarmed.
The Avatar State, while extremely useful in lending Aang the skills and experiences of all his past Avatar incarnations, doesn’t drastically alter his already existing elemental abilities. His control is greater, and he outputs more power to be sure, but the core fact of the matter is that Aether is still able to deal with it even despite its great power. Aang’s tendency to cover himself in his sphere of elements works great against benders in his universe, but ironically enough, that just makes it easier for Aether to capitalise with his Elemental Reactions. Surrounded by a ring of water? He can freeze it. The earth? Free elemental shields for Aether. All that fire? Vaporised with Hydro, or Overloaded with Electro, and close-range electricity and explosions have never been good for Aang in the past. Azula nearly killed him that way, and Aether can slash through his defences with a super-speed enhanced giant Electro sword. Plus, as seen with the Kuuvahki Cannon, Aether’s forcefields are massive enough to protect him from anything Aang could realistically throw at him.
Aang has faced plenty of Earthbenders and Firebenders throughout his journey, and a fair amount of Waterbenders too, so he’s familiar with the types of moves and techniques that they can throw out at him, but he’s never had to face another Airbender before, at least not since the Air Nomads were all wiped out (and until the new movie comes out). Adding onto that the unfamiliarity Aang would have adapting to Aether’s use of Dendro, more versatile Electro abilities, and straight up Cryo, no water involved, and it’s clear he would be pressed to keep up against Aether’s overwhelming elemental assault.
On the other hand, Aether is close friends with plenty of Anemo users who fight like Aang does, such as Lan Yan, Xianyun, and the Wanderer. Zhongli creates pillars and throws massive rocks like Earthbenders. Barbara and Sangonomiya Kokomi have the fluidity and control of Waterbenders, and are experienced healers, too. Dehya and Diluc Ragnvindr have the passionate burning flames of Firebenders, and Nicole Reeyn has shown tempered and mastered control over Pyro. Then Aether has also overcome the Shouki no Kami, which wielded Anemo, Cryo, Electro, Hydro and Pyro Elemental Energy all at once just like the Avatar State. With Aether’s prior experience facing similar foes, and proven history of quick adaptation, he would be able to overcome the Avatar State’s plethora of elemental abilities.
That finally brings us to the big question: How does Energybending work here? Well, there’s a few things going against it being a win con for Aang. Firstly, he needs time and concentration in order to perform it safely, and had to restrain both Ozai and Yakone in stone up to their heads to make sure it worked. Against Aether, who is stronger, can bust out several ways, manipulate stone with Geo, teleport away, and so on, Aang won’t be able to pin him down long enough for it to work. There’s also a misconception that it takes a battle of wills to push back Energybending, as seen with Ozai, but as confirmed in an interview, it was his evil which threatened to kill Aang, and Aang just needed the will to keep going. Even if it were true, Aether, as the Fourth Descender, has the will to rival an entire world, and would wrest control from Aang.
As established earlier on, the very different ways in which the two manipulate and control their elements means that it’s all but impossible for Aang to actually remove Aether’s Authority over his elements. The only ones who could mess with that would potentially be the Heavenly Principles and maybe the Shades, as Asmoday did seal Aether’s original power away, but even then, that’s just a possibility and we don’t know for sure whether they could. Even if, in a Devil’s Advocate argument, Aang could remove his link to the Elemental Authorities, Aether could just teleport to the Statues of the Seven and immediately get them back.
Additionally, Energybending and trying to manipulate Aether’s inner power would open Aang up to contamination and corruption from all the Abyssal Energy Aether’s been absorbing throughout his journey. If Aang got exposed to a high concentration like that, it would be extremely crippling and harmful at best, opening him up for Aether to capitalise, and at worst, could just outright kill him. Aether also has crazy amounts of Kuuvahki Energy inside of him, as well as some Archaeolune Energy too, which can cause intense nosebleeds, dizziness, headaches, and nausea at more mild ends, or death with a large enough exposure. Trying to reach inside Aether to shut down his powers would open Aang up to an overload of Abyssal and Kuuvahki Energy, and he would likely die.
And failing all of that, if somehow Aang could get it to work by a miracle and Aether didn’t decide to just teleport away, Aether is still a master swordsman. He’s more than strong and fast enough to still kill Aang regardless with any of his myriad swords, or even his bows, polearms, claymores and catalysts. Hell, he could just lay him out with his fists alone if it came to that; he’s been running the ones without them for years. Tuck your chin, Avatar, you’re getting knocked out. (And shout out to EeferTheTraveler, his art is great).
So all told up, Aether’s abilities and mastery over the elements gives him a clear and reliable edge over the Avatar. No matter the situation, Teyvat’s World Walker has more than enough to adapt, improvise and overcome Aang’s precise and practised bending. With everything at his disposal, Aether’s mastery of Elemental Energy is putting Aang on the back foot.

Skill & Experience
When talking skill and experience, deciding how this plays out is a tough one. Both Aang and Aether are extremely skilled and exceptionally versatile warriors, and have had to apply out-of-the-box thinking to approach some truly difficult problems. Aang can be very sly and tricky when he needs to be, but he is still a child, and lacks formal education or experience with deduction (at least as far as the original series is concerned, we don’t see much of him in The Legend of Korra after his passing). Aang’s always been more the type to fly by the seat of his pants and use his smarts in combat to outwit opponents with his evasive and loose fighting style. He’s an amazing martial artist, but Aether matches and surpasses that combat skill and experience with all the time he’s spent on Teyvat.
We can’t quite account for anything he did before the start of the game, but after waking up in Mondstadt, Aether quickly proved himself a master swordsman, element-wielder, and all-around warrior. He’s been on his worldwide journey for nearly six years now, and has more direct fighting experience than Aang got in his quest to stop the Hundred Year War. He’s spent significant time at the Sumeru Akademiya, which is Teyvat’s greatest school of knowledge, and has had to fend for himself solving difficult puzzles all across the land. That quick-thinking mind and eye for detail has helped him learn new skills almost instantly, bring down criminal syndicates and smuggling rings, even win court cases in a justice system he knew nothing about, and emerge on top in every situation. Hell, a 1 million Mora Knowledge Capsule containing sword techniques from certifiable masters barely even made a difference to his skill level, he was already just that good.
However, the Avatar State changes all of this. Aether is more individually skilled and experienced than Aang by the end of the first series, but with direct access to 10,000 years’ worth of knowledge, techniques, battle skills and lived experiences, we can’t in good faith call Aether’s immortality and life before Teyvat as truly comparable as of right now. Aether may have fought immortals with thousands of years of experience before, but not all of that time was spent training or in combat. His master, Skirk, has 500 years of direct and constant training and battle experience, but Aang’s Avatar State gives him access to memories from lifetimes and history collectively 20 times as long. No one’s life is fighting 100% of the time, but Aang simply has a much wider pool of experiences and skills to draw from compared to the people Aether fought or was trained by.
It’s a tough call, and maybe things might change once we have a more concrete past for Aether laid out in future patches, but with the knowledge that we have now, Aang’s past lives as the most skilled fighters on his planet give him the edge in this category.

Tertiary Factors
Arsenal
Both Aang and Aether have unique arsenals beyond just their elemental powers, and with our favourite Airbender, that takes the form of his Airbender Staff. Doubly functioning as a staff and glider, Aang can use it in conjunction with his Airbending to blast gusts of wind at enemies, whack people on the head with the staff, fly almost unrestricted, and even grab a small snack from the hollow inside. Aether does have his own glider, but it offers him much less mobility and maneuverability when compared to Aang.
Aether’s own equipment on the other hand is a lot more varied. Firstly, his collection of Swords means he’ll always have a strong weapon in hand. Long gone are the days of the Dull Blade, now the Prototype Rancour is his go-to, increasing his attack and defence with each hit he lands. The Lion’s Roar pairs perfectly with his elemental abilities, dealing exceptional damage to those afflicted by Pyro or Electro. The Sword of Descension has a 50% chance to launch a big area of effect attack and increases his strength immensely, which only works for him as a Descender in Teyvat. And the Sword of Narzissenkreuz is able to separate one’s mind from their body, as well as dealing a massive burst of damage after storing up Pneuma or Ousia energy.
Not to mention, Aether is able to parry any incoming attacks, whether up-close or ranged, and either decrease the damage suffered by 80%, or nullify the incoming damage all together with a Perfect Parry. Allowing him plenty of opportunities to counter-attack with his blades, Aang will most certainly be trying to keep up against this solid offensive front. And then there’s Aether’s gun and grenades on top of that, applying Cryo and Pyro which he can use to synergise with his other elements, as well as also just being regularly dangerous.
Aether also carries around with him a smorgasbord of delicious food; both full-course meals and snacks. While Aang mostly alleviates a bit of hunger with his, Aether’s food is able to do a multitude of things to help him out. They can heal him from any damage taken, boost his strength, speed, stamina, durability, elemental damage, and revive him if he’s ever taken down. The only limit is that once Aether’s full, he can’t eat anymore, so it’s best to use those meals carefully.
His various Gadgets provide some support, helping him fly higher, glide faster, directly generate elemental bursts of energy, and so on. Likewise, his Artifacts can provide Aether a number of benefits depending on which ones he’s selected, between enhancements to speed, power, defence, healing, elemental damage, and reducing a foe’s elemental resistance. Aether can already teleport all across Teyvat, but with his Portable Teleport Waypoint, he can directly place a location to teleport to, so if he needs to escape a battle to heal at a Statue of the Seven for a second or two, he can jump right back into the fray. But for longer periods of escape, he can also travel to the Serenitea Pot or Miliastra Wonderland, where Aang cannot follow.
As you’d expect from an RPG protagonist, Aether is carrying a lot more equipment with him into battle, and has a lot more useful tools at his disposal than Aang, who typically dresses light and doesn’t carry things with him. It’s fitting of his life as a monk and the lifestyle he’s grown up in, but without any counters to Aether’s weapons, healing items, or methods of escape, he lacks the means to stop the Honorary Knight of Favonius keeping up the pressure and undoing any progress he can manage in the fight.

Stamina
Surprisingly, both Aether and Aang have very similar showcases of stamina. Aang stayed up and trained for days on end before his climactic fight with Fire Lord Ozai, while getting absolutely no sleep out of fear of dying. Likewise, Aether went through training under Skirk’s guidance, and ended up practicing his skills for several days without rest, only stopping when he was on the brink of collapse. On a similar note, the Avatar State did have a part to play in Aang surviving in that iceberg for 100 years. While it isn’t a direct stamina feat, we have seen Aang’s fighting stamina revitalised by the Avatar State in his battle against Ozai, when the previously tired Avatar was suddenly capable of giving chase to the Phoenix King with no signs of slowing down. Similarly, Aether has access to snacks and foods that would help replenish his stamina beyond his normal limitations, so with that being said, stamina is ultimately a draw.

Both Aang and Aether have similar showcases of stamina and means of continuously fighting well past their limits. However, Aether’s overall more varied arsenal, weapons and items would give him the overall edge, giving him the win in the tertiaries department.

Support
Although not exactly a vital aspect of this matchup, both Aang and Aether are great heroes surrounded by friends and allies. Though we’re not looking at Team Avatar or any of the people from the groups Aether’s been part of like the Knights of Favonius or the Warriors of Natlan, they’ve had other forms of support by their side throughout their journey.
For Aang, Momo and Appa are his ride-or-die’s. Aang moved Heaven and Earth to bring Appa back home during Book 2, and the Sky Bison helps him with his large bulk, flight and Airbending. Momo’s not exactly as physically inclined, but he’s a devious scamp and could definitely sneak around for some trickery.
On Aether’s side, his best friend and loyal travel companion/guide Paimon is always by his side. She may not be throwing hands herself, but she’s surprisingly intelligent and resourceful, and always carries a number of items in her… inventory? Hammer space? Which can be used as weapons. Large books, sacks of Mora and metal Kameras all make an improvised tool, plus she always has food and snacks with her which can heal the both of them. Paimon will definitely throw down to defend herself if need be though.
Aether and Paimon also trained Bongo-Head and the other Fungi, giving them access to 10 different types of elemental Fungi with useful abilities to back them up. Bongo-Head can trap Aang in a water bubble, the Floating Dendro Fungus can heal, the Stretchy Electro Fungus can boost allies, Twirly-Whirly is great for crowd control, and almost all the rest of them have some form of buffs for the team, and their elemental application means Aether can keep up the pressure with Elemental Reactions on Aang.
Little One and Aguara both are much stronger than they appear, having fought giant beasts similar to Appa before, like when Aguara took down Celaeno and her partner Haemus, the Radiant Bladehorn who can control Anemo in the Frostmoon Scions’ Spirit Envoy Championship. Little One even helped Aguara manifest his Geo Hammers, and he should be capable of the same, especially after all the adventures he got up to across Natlan with Aether and Paimon. Though he likely wouldn’t be able to access his adult form, he’s still more than strong enough as he is.
The Manekin and Manekina also serve as backup for Aether, matching his element with their own moves they can use when fighting alongside him, keeping up the pressure on Aang. Lastly, but certainly not least, Dex has the potential to just end the fight instantly. His ability as a Watcher of the Temple of Space means he’s able to Uplift people to the Temple of Space, where your ‘time’ is essentially frozen and people live in a stasis of sorts. Still living normally, but not aging, needing to eat or sleep and unable to grow tired or die. Without any way to get back down aside from facing Melanta, the interim master of the temple, and having to sacrifice your memories in the process, Aang would never get the chance to face Aether again, and wouldn’t remember him even if he could escape.
So Aether’s far greater number of allies to call upon and fight alongside him, and their wider variety of moves, techniques and supporting abilities means that when comparing the friends who help them along the way, the Hope of Teyvat cleans house.

Speed
What about speed though? Lightning generation and redirection is very prominent in Avatar, and we’ve seen characters like Aang, Zuko and Iroh all redirect it before. For example, Amon was able to dodge lightning from Lightning Bolt Zolt, at about Mach 215, and Katara could block and evade Azula’s lightning, reacting at speeds of Mach 283. Aang himself is even faster, catching Ozai’s lightning at Mach 313, and his Avatar successor Korra could fight Vaatu, whose darkness encased the planet in a matter of seconds. That would require speeds of about Mach 973.
Aether at a baseline is already more than comparable to seasoned warriors like Eula, who could block a Fatui Skirmisher’s Pyro bullet at Mach 2, and Clorinde, who sliced up a Gardemek army and their rockets at over Mach 14, but he’s also been dodging lightning for a long while. Whether the storms on Inazuma or Yae Miko and her Anti-Raiden Shogun training, Aether can compare to the stepped leader of a lightning strike, which moves at Mach 437.3. And during Fontaine’s crisis, Neuvillette covered the entire country in Hydro energy, with it having to move at Mach 3646 in order to do so. Aether has also dodged light beams before as well, such as in Nod-Krai, where he directly blocked the laser of Aino’s Kuuvahki Cannon, which he would require him to react at 11% light speed, or in his fight against the Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network in Sumeru, where he evaded its light beams at 34% the speed of light.
No matter which way you slice it, Aether conclusively takes the edge in terms of speed. Whether using lower ends against Aang in base, or higher feats against the Avatar State, and with Cryo applications passively slowing Aang down, the Fourth Descender always has the reactions and combat speed to out-do the Last Airbender and come out on top.

Power
Starting off with Aang, the Last Airbender can perform and scale to plenty of Megaton level feats just in his base form. Like the time Aang split a mountain in his sleep at 1.37 Megatons, Roku carved trenches into his island at 2.9 Megatons, and Ghazan melted part of the Northern Air Temple with his Lavabending, reaching up to 8.8 Megatons. But previous Avatars have shown us even greater feats of strength in the Avatar State. Avatar Yangchen once dispersed a massive group of clouds with a force of 2.11 Gigatons of TNT, and of course Kyoshi creating Kyoshi’s island is a famous example, at 3.1 Teratons of TNT, which is enough to destroy a country.
On the other hand, Aether has been fighting powerful gods and monsters on the same level from the beginning of his journey. Early on in his travels, Aether’s close friend Shenhe froze a gigantic tsunami from the sea god Beisht, at 454 Megatons of TNT, and even earlier in Mondstadt, Aether fought the Wolf of the North, Andrius, who once covered the entirety of Mondstadt in freezing cold and blizzards, which requires at least 5.8 Gigatons of TNT at a low end. Similarly, just the remnant traces of the Serpent God Orobashi’s power threatened to blow up the entirety of Kannazuka Island, which would take 27.46 Gigatons of TNT, and the sea god Osial could shake the world down to its core, at 61.4 Gigatons.
Even stronger than them however, are the Archons. One example would be Raiden Ei, who split Yashiori Island with a single sword slash to kill Orobashi, at 9.6 Teratons, or Venti, who terraformed Mondstadt and yeeted Pilos Peak into the sea with an energy of 24.62 Teratons of TNT. All of this was within Aether’s first two years on Teyvat, mind you, and during Nod-Krai, Varka and Arlecchino, both some of the world’s strongest warriors and equals to Aether, were able to pull down the Frost Moon from beyond the False Sky, each requiring 3.1 Zettatons of TNT individually to accomplish. During Fontaine, Aether defeated the All-Devouring Narwhal alongside Neuvillette, which can eat planets and stars, and later faced Skofnungr, who had the Narwhal’s power, defeating him even more easily alongside Skirk.
All said, Aether pretty decisively takes the edge in terms of Strength. Generally, durability often also scales alongside power, and that is 100% the case here, but it’s worth noting that benders in Avatar have a consistent history of not enduring attacks of the same level of force they put out super well. Aang mostly tries to avoid taking hits wherever possible, and can still survive almost anything that’s been thrown his way, but in contrast, Aether is far more comfortable taking and getting back up from devastating large hits which match his power output. Beisht slammed him into a mountain, he casually walks off lightning strikes all the time, the Shouki no Kami was tearing up the battlefield during their fight, Rerir tried to constrict him to death, Dottore dropped pillars and the power of a False Moon on top of him, and he gets right back up every single time. Taking the same kind of hits Aether does generally knocks Aang out or would force him into the Avatar State, so between the two, Aether is also far tougher, securing him the final category.
Lastly, just to cover all our bases, even including more contentious feats such as Firebenders affecting the sun while amped or Aang potentially being able to create an aurora, which could get up to relativistic speeds, Aether has answers of his own. Such as scaling to Skirk and the Narwhal’s Black Holes, or to the members of the Hexenzirkel who created expansive realms like Simulanka and the Imaginarium Theater, or using characters Ayaka or Yelan’s abilities against the Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network to get faster than light speeds, or the Sword of Narzissenkreuz being stated to have the power to create or destroy a Universe. But you get the idea, Aether takes power regardless of the arguments used.

Conclusion

As interesting as this matchup is, and has been, to discuss, the result was fairly clear cut from the outset, even with some fighting game and movie related detours at the buzzer. It was always going to come down to the most simple of aspects in the end: who hit harder, who was faster, and who had the better ways to win. In those regards, Aether simply outdoes even the most generous estimates for Aang, especially in attack power. One could argue similar speeds via spirit lasers, but Aether is still a bit faster with his own high ends.
As for power, this one was obvious. Aang’s best is certainly impressive, but we’re talking a difference of teratons and zettatons, moving islands and dropping moons, and that’s not counting that Aether has some much less dubious cosmic ends than anything Aang has. Even down to their respective elements, Aether could match and surpass pretty much anything Aang could pull off, even down to techniques like Seismic Sense with his own wider array of skills and abilities.
Aang does hold a quite significant experience advantage in the Avatar State, but when it comes down to it, Aether would always outlast, and ultimately overpower him. The Avatar fought well, and there were many twists, turns and bends along the way, but do Nod-Krai, cause at the end of the day, this outcome was quite elementary, and we can only determine that the winner is Aether, the Traveler.
