“He who knows how to flatter also knows how to slander.” –Napoleon Bonaparte

Katsuki Bakugo, My Hero Academia’s Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight.

Reze, Chainsaw Man’s Bomb Devil.

Few things are as destructive and deadly as the rapid expansion of force that is an explosion. It can be used by the right heroes to defend the weak, but most often only brings death through the hands of monsters. The question arises however, if these designations of hero and monster were forced upon the recipients, or something chosen in earnest. But who cares about all this mushy theme stuff? Will Bakugo put the Bum Devil in the nearest alleyway dumpster, or will Reze feed Dynafraud a heartbreaking defeat? Time to find out in a DEATH BATTLE!

Before We Start…

The content being used for each is pretty simple. Bakugo’s analysis will focus on the original My Hero Academia manga, the anime, the canon movies, etc. Reze will similarly focus on the Chainsaw Man manga and anime adaptation (which received heavy supervision from Fujimoto and his editor), as well as Reze’s signature Reze Arc movie and the Buddy Stories novel, and just about any side material that’s available for supporting evidence (the Love, Flower, Chainsaw Guidein particular was untranslated, so credits to Lain on Discord for translating some scans from it).

So yeah, pretty standard coverage. Nothing weird or odd going on here. Nope. None at all. Just uh, don’t think too hard about the images.

Background

Bakugo

@1ne_chrome

I made a pledge! I WILL ACHIEVE ABSOLUTE VICTORY, EVERY TIME! We’re taking this 4-0, no casualties! THE STRONG DON’T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS!

In a world where roughly 80% of the population is born with superpowered quirks, it takes a lot to stand out from this ginormous crowd. Let alone be number one. But it doesn’t matter if you can make glaciers, carry hundreds through the sky, or hit with the incredible power of SMASH! To Katsuki Bakugo, his Explosion quirk was all he deemed necessary to make it to the top. As a child, he and his best friend Izuku Midoriya admired that power of Smash, wielded by the number one hero: All Might. But while Midoriya admired All Might for how he always saved the people with a smile on his face, the young Bakugo only looked at the hero himself in those glorious images of victory… victory: that’s what he wanted to reach for. And why couldn’t he? His quirk was as versatile as it was strong, he excelled in all matters of intellect, he received nothing but praise from every person around him…

…including Midoriya, who he also received a helping hand from. Why the heck would he need that? He wasn’t weak, no one thought so, but did Midoriya think so? Stupid Deku, that’s what Bakugo deemed his friend to be, a quirkless nobody who can’t do anything. Receiving help from him, in any circumstance, was humiliating. So Bakugo pushed his former childhood friend away for years, until it was time for Bakugo to become a student at UA High. The greatest hero school in the world, an exclusive privilege for only the greats… HOW THE HELL DID DEKU GET IN THERE? He had a quirk all of a sudden, he was succeeding all of a sudden, he was catching up all of a sudden, he was WINNING AGAINST BAKUGO all of a sudden… none of it made sense. But the solution was simple, just get stronger and leave him in the dust… right?

Nah, that wasn’t going to be enough to claim victory. As capable as Bakugo was, and damn right he was according to him, he couldn’t grow into the hero he wanted to be alone. Reluctant bonds with fellow students like Kirishima, as well as collaboration with his whole class in general, helped him develop. But his ego was still in the way, a hurdle preventing him from truly growing as a hero, not just a fighter. However, it didn’t take long for that ego to get crushed. Bakugo was kidnapped by dangerous villains, leading All Might into a confrontation that cost him his power. Bakugo’s weakness had led the greatest hero, his greatest hero, into darkness. His ego was crushed all right, but only for the worse. Everything that had been going on, would be All Might’s fall from grace to Izuku’s growth, it was all such a complicated and pressure inducing mess. For all his bravado and aspirations, it’s important to remember that Bakugo was still just a kid. He needed some sort of hero to help break him out of his rut.

Concerning circumstances aside, Midoriya was able to reach his hand out (as a fist into Bakugo’s face) to help his friend. After being consoled by All Might and having the sense beaten into him by that damn nerd, no, rival, Bakugo was set on the path he needed: the true path to victory. Not the fake one he had been on before. Working with his classmates, his friends, his teachers, Bakugo’s growth exploded. He worked more directly on others, as he was able to see everyone in a new light, including Izuku. It was clear to him that he had fallen behind him, and he wasn’t going to let that stick. So even when country-wide war broke out in a great hero vs villain clash, the hero Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight (yes that’s his hero name) never faltered. He would take blows for allies and fight walls he knew he couldn’t climb for the sake of the good fight.

All this improvement and reflection even let him defeat the greatest adversary he could ever fight: his own mistakes. Apologizing to the childhood friend he had tormented for so long was something he knew wouldn’t be enough, but he had to do it. Crazy, really, to think that the same middle school asshole who’d tell the person more nice to him than anyways else to jump off a roof, would grow to be a guy who’d face death in the face with a bomb ready in his palm. And hell, keep going! Saving All Might from certain doom, undoing what he viewed as his greatest sin as he went to kick the ass of the baddest villain in the world! And yet, when the battles were all said and done, he wasn’t happy, as Midoriya had lost his quirk in the midst of battle. But what the heck is 8 years of dedication and a couple million dollars if it means you get to race your best friend to the top of the hero-ranking hill? Many would default Katsuki Bakugo to nothing but an explosive hot head. And yeah, he still is one. But what Bakugo truly is above all else? A hero who saves people with a smile on his face. Oh, and yeah, might as well claim a victory or two as well. That’s always going to feel great.

Reze

@Sharpski_

I’ll teach you! The things you don’t know or can’t do. I’ll teach you everything.

In an alternate 1990s Japan, one major thing has changed our world: Devils are real. Born from human fears, these Devils become stronger based on how feared their name is, ranging from a fairly weak fear of tomatoes to the primal, ancient fear of darkness. During the Cold War, the Soviet Union was one nation that secretly experimented on young children to create the perfect soldiers, molding them through harsh training and amplifications. One of these experiments involved capturing the Bomb Devil and a young girl named Reze. Having experienced Soviet intelligence training for tasks like assasination, infiltration, and of course combat, Reze eventually fused with the fear of explosives itself, a portion of it’s body placed inside and making her into a Hybrid. While seemingly a normal charming girl on the outside, she is perfectly capable of pulling the pin on her neck and becoming the Bomb Girl, imbued with incredibly powerful explosive abilities.

Once Russia learned about the existence of a certain Hybrid that ate other devils to erase them from existence, there was no question that Reze would be sent to get close to him and steal his heart. The Chainsaw Devil’s host, Denji, quickly fell for Reze’s manipulative tactics, as just a normal girl working at a cafe. While initially seeing him as nothing more than a target, the Bomb Girl started to gain a genuine feeling of connection towards Denji. Her entire life had been spent as a weapon isolated from society, never truly able to form connections with people, to live a normal life. In the lonely and vulnerable Denji was the manifestation of her own inner turmoil she had suppressed, a chance to leave the life she had been trapped in. But alas, she prioritized the mission over her feelings and bit out Denji’s tongue while kissing him before revealing her true identity.

After killing numerous Public Safety Devil Hunters, the Bomb Girl and Chainsaw Man would battle across Tokyo, with Reze being assisted by the Typhoon Devil after gaining it’s trust following a previous attempt on their lives. The battle ended with the Typhoon Devil dead and Denji taking his crush into the ocean to prevent her from using explosives. Upon washing ashore the next morning, Reze declared her mission a failure. She told Denji that all of her feelings were nothing but a facade, yet Denji was undeterred. He offered to run away with her, because if she truly did feel nothing for him, why would she have taught him how to swim, which is what ultimately led to her defeat? Eventually coming to terms with how Denji saw her for who she truly was, she returned to that cafe where they first met. But the reality was that it was never meant to be. She ended up being taken down by Denji’s superior, Makima, to eliminate anyone else from having a hold over him. As she lay dying, Reze’s final words were an admission of the truth: she had never gone to school, just like the Chainsaw Man.

Experience & Skill

Bakugo

@hwarangutan

With his own prodigious talent and training under UA, Bakugo’s an accomplished fighter. Early into his High school life, the USJ was attacked, and the villains were more afraid of Katsuki than he was of them. His instincts are so good that he was able to perceive and counterattack against an invisible/camouflaged opponent. In his first training fight against Midoriya, he was able to overwhelm Izuku quite easily, despite the latter’s planning and analysis, showing an incredible handle on his quirk and mid-fight adaptation. For example, when he faked Izuku out, using one explosion as a smokescreen and a feint, and another to deal damage, it was stated to be an incredibly high skill move by Momo Yaoyorozu.

Bakugo is not only praised for his instincts though, one thing that really set him apart from the rest of his class was his aptitude for battle. Bakugo’s creative genius makes him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, even against the best of the best. A good example of this would be when he fought young All for One. Since he was well aware of the effect the rain had on his power by this point in time, he coated his explosive sweat inside of his regular sweat and launched it at All for One, who didn’t notice he had gotten some of it on him until it was too late. Katsuki hoped that All for One would do something to trigger the explosion from a remote distance, and it worked perfectly, given that All for One’s final attack, All for One Goal, was halted completely.

However, one of the most crucial qualities Bakugo has is his pain tolerance. There are multiple instances of him being subjected to a great deal of pain, and being able to continue fighting anyway, such as when he came to Deku’s rescue and fought Nine. One of Nine’s Blue Dragons crushed his ribs, but he kept on fighting for a bit longer. Even after being struck with lightning for a few seconds, he and Izuku still wouldn’t allow Nine to bring harm to Mahoro or Katsuma. When he fought the 2-in-1 villain: Serpenters, he was slashed multiple times with razor sharp blades. Despite being cut a lot and losing a great deal of blood, Bakugo kept fighting until the job was done, which is a testament to how stubborn he is, but more importantly, how driven he is to obtain victory.

Reze

@baku_mbu

From a young age, Reze has acted as a soldier used by the Soviets for experiments, likely spending most of her life serving her country. Not only is she a deadly fighter as a devil, but even in terms of raw hand-to-hand skill, she could easily defeat and kill a skilled mercenary who has killed many other Devil Hunters by avoiding his strike, twisting his arms, and putting him in a spinal lock within just a few moves, despite being unarmed at the time and in her human form. The anime adaptation of the scene also displays her knocking him flat on his ass with a devastating kick while simultaneously disarming him, showing the deadliness of her training, especially with her proficiency with a knife, being able to precisely slash off Denji’s hand the instant he tried to transform into his Devil form from a fair distance away to incapacitate him. She’s also very creative in how she utilizes her explosive powers, such as quickly figuring out the abilities of the Mold Devil targeting her organs to prevent her from healing and using her transformation to blow off her own head, effectively killing it (thus preventing the Mold Devil from targeting it), throwing it, and using it to reform her body to attack the Devil Hunters inside their headquarters while her original body acted independently. Her human body has quickly leapt over sudden attacks from the Fox Devil while taking out a senior Devil Hunter at the same time (and even reacted to it attacking her from behind), she’s shot out her explosions as concentrated blasts precisely enough to specifically hit the arms of someone trying to shoot her or snipe Denji’s arm from afar when he tried revving up his engine, applied her explosions in unique ways to fly around, has parried powerful kicks from other notable H2H fighters like the Violence Fiend, and… has attempted to lie… (She’s trying her best).

Her skills as a fighter have allowed her to keep up and even demolish the unpredictable Denji in their confrontations, who has been hunting devils since his youth, can quickly identify specific weaknesses to Devil Powers after short confrontations like how the Tomato Devil can resurrect from its seeds or that the Eternity Devil specifically feared his chainsaws and was highly vulnerable to pain despite its seeming unkillability, trained with the best Devil Hunter Kishibe (who has decades of experience) to the point he could actually land a hit on him and gain his approval, has defeated more skilled foes like Samurai Sword through baiting him into focusing on his head only to slice him in half with a surprise chainsaw he made on his foot, and even dealt with large hordes of foes at once like with his fight with the Zombie Devil shortly after getting his powers.

She also knows how to swim, which is pretty epic I must admit.

Equipment

Bakugo

Grenadier Bracers

A pair of gauntlets that can store up Katsuki’s explosive sweat with a pin attached that when pulled, unleashes a huge explosion in the direction it’s aimed. He often uses them after he’s accumulated a large amount of sweat, allowing him to unleash larger explosions than what his body is typically capable of producing.

Portable Grenades

Makeshift grenades containing Bakugo’s sweat. The best (and like, only) showcase of these being used was in Team Bakugo’s fight against Team Tokage in the Class A/Class B joint training fights. They don’t pack tooooo much of a punch, but when used strategically, they can be used for pretty crazy setups, such as when Tokage noticed the explosive and evaded the piece of her body that it was stuck to, only to get a face full of explosion.

Hair Spikes

Not really a big combat tool, and more so just cool headgear. He did stab Deku through the head with one though, so it can probably solo a verse or two if he threw it hard enough.

Suppressive Heavy Mobile
Unit: Strafe Panzer

A group of retractable Machine guns that use Bakugo’s excess sweat as ammunition for supporting fire, allowing him to attack at a much more rapid pace, essentially acting as turrets. These support items are used in Bakugo’s ultimate move, Howitzer Impact: Cluster. They aren’t extremely durable, since Shigaraki didn’t have to put much effort into breaking them, but if left untouched, they can be a real problem for any opponent Katsuki faces, which would include Shigaraki, given that Cluster Impact had to be blocked by Shigaraki, unlike other attacks of his.

Reze

Knife

When Reze is in her human form, she has shown to be skilled with a knife which she uses to try and kill Denji.

Abilities

Bakugo

Quirk: Explosion

@1ne_chrome

In the world of My Hero Academia, 80% of the population are born with a supernatural ability known as a quirk. You’ve seen us describe a quirk many times across many G1 Blogs so hopefully you’re fully aware of how varied quirks can be between users. While some quirks are better fit for support, evasion, or just completely changing your physiology, Bakugo would be born into the world with an extraordinary quirk. Simply known as the quirk “Explosion”, Bakugo is capable of producing a special kind of sweat that has properties akin to nitroglycerin. The sweat usually comes from his palms and upon igniting it at will, Bakugo creates powerful explosions that deal heavy amounts of damage to his opponent. Due to developing the quirk at a young age, Bakugo would find plenty of creative ways in which he can use his explosions outside of blowing you to pieces.

The shockwaves from his explosions have been used to defend against attacks, and Bakugo can delay his explosions by dropping his sweat onto others and hoping that it creates enough force to ignite them; most notably, Bakugo uses his explosions to propel him. He has used explosions to slide along the ground and even take to the skies, flying freely to intercept his foes. On top of all this, Bakugo’s developed plenty of moves in his time at UA High.

AP Shot: A custom move of Bakugo’s. By honing his explosions into a single point rather than firing them from his entire palm, Bakugo is able to create focused blasts that can better pierce through specific targets.

AP Shot Auto Cannon: This rapid fire version of the AP Shot was made to reduce the power of his explosions while still being an effective attack. That way, innocent civilians are safe from being caught in the crossfire.

AP Machine Gun: Completely opposing the last move, Bakugo goes all out with this version of AP Shot as he fires larger explosions at a faster firing rate.

Stun Grenade: Due to the blinding amount of light that Bakugo creates with his quirk, he would manage to create a move that capitalizes on such a side effect. Clasping both hands while making an explosion lets Bakugo create a sphere of light that will blind anyone within its radius.

Point-Blank Stun Grenade: It’s like a Stun Grenade but Bakugo rudely gets up in your face with it.

Land Mine Blast: Aiming his Grenade Bracers towards the ground lets Bakugo create a concentrated explosion that clears anything gas-like that is blocking his sight. He would use this move to clear away Deku’s smokescreen when they were trying to chase him down.

Explode-A-Pult: As mentioned prior, Bakugo can use explosions to propel himself in the air, but when he grabs an opponent, he can propel himself in an upward circular motion and send his opponent flying at high speeds.

Howitzer Impact: Bakugo practically becomes a human missile with his ultimate move. By using his explosions to propel himself in a sort of spiral motion, Bakugo puts all the power into one hand and strikes the opponent with said hand. They not only get their shit beat in but the ensuing explosion is powerful enough to destroy structures like Todoroki’s own Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall.

Cluster

@cpasDryNa

When all seemed naught against an improved Shigaraki, Bakugo would have to push himself to his limits and develop a version of his quirk that would let him… go beyond. By fully understanding his quirk, Bakugo would go beyond his singular explosions and instead condense his explosions to the point of creating multiple at once! Through this condensation, Bakugo’s explosions are not only much stronger but they can accelerate Bakugo to the point where it seems like he’s completely disappeared from sight.

This evolution culminated in Bakugo’s ultimate attack: Howitzer Impact – Cluster. The most powerful move in Bakugo’s kit. While it shares many similarities with his standard Howitzer Impact, this variant has Strafe Panzer and Cluster to back it up, giving it much more of a kick than it normally would otherwise. It’s very likely that this attack would have done some hefty damage to a fully powered up Shigaraki, if it had landed.

Hybrid Physiology

@wanderjegson

In the world of Chainsaw Man humans can obtain powers through devils. While the first way is to make a contract with the devil which has the human and devil make a deal, there is another way in which case the devil is inside the human which leads to them becoming a Hybrid. Hybrids like Reze gain a bunch of new abilities due to their now half-devil side such as being immortal and turn into a new devil form, but the main ability they obtain is the power of fear. Devils in this world have their strength determined by how much their name is feared, for example a coffee devil wouldn’t be all that powerful, but something like say the Gun Devil would be at the top of the power chain; for instance, it’s noted by Kishibe that “sane” Devil Hunters tend to die because their fear simply makes opposing devils stronger, and this is shown with instances like the Eternity Devil quickly becoming far stronger and gaining more control over the hotel with its ability just from the fear Kobeni and Arai felt towards it. Reze being the Bomb Devil would give her a pretty good boost of power due to people’s fears of explosions or blowing up.

Other minor abilities possessed by devils is their keen sense of smell, with fiends like Power smelling blood from extremely far away, using that to track the blood of specific enemies, and even hearing Denji’s voice from outside a completely soundproof room, Beam identifying Reze as being fused with the Bomb Devil off of her scent, various devils likely being able to identify Chainsaw Man even outside of his devil form, various Fiends and Angel identifying the scent of Hell itself, and Makima can specifically differentiate between Denji and Pochita’s smells despite them being fused together, even detecting the Gun Devil from 500 kilometers away. Devils can also interact with esoteric beings like the Ghost Devil, who is conventionally intangible, yet could easily be struck by the Snake Devil and fellow hybrid Samurai Sword (it’s specifically noted that the sword Aki used to battle it was made to damage intangible ghosts, indicating this is a supernatural ability of devils).

The main trait Hybrids like Reze have is their absurd regeneration. With just the tiniest bit of blood consumed, devils can regenerate practically anything be it lost limbs, brain damage, their head, half of one’s body, or in Reze’s case, her entire body from the neck down after it blew up. In one particular instance, despite Denji explicitly being low on blood at the start of his fight with Reze, he was able to continually regenerate from just his upper torso and head to the point Reze had to spam explosions on him to get him to stop healing. Even if a devil is “dead” and out of blood, someone could pour their own blood from their body onto the devil to consume and they can walk it off like nothing even happened, like when Pochita (in his tiny dog form) came back from being cut in half via drinking a minute drop of blood and used that to fully reattach the various chopped-up pieces of Denji’s body, and even without blood, simply revving up Denji’s engine (or pulling Reze’s pin, in this case) has allowed him to come back from being outright killed by the effects of the Curse Devil. It’s even shown that devils can essentially fight indefinitely so long as they have any source of blood, best shown with Denji’s fight with the Eternity Devil which lasted three days where Denji compared himself to a perpetual motion machine. So long as Reze has a tiny bit of blood left in her system she can come back from practically anything thrown at her.

Explosion Manipulation

@bloodshot_hare

As mentioned before Reze is the Bomb Devil, and thus, has the ability to create giant explosions. While on paper this seems super simple, Reze is actually quite versatile in how she uses it. One of the main ways she uses her explosions is for mobility, with a simple kick or jump Reze can go flying great distances, being able to catch up with speeding cars in a matter of moments. When it comes to actually fighting though, Reze can use her bombs in ways such as sending out a spark as a projectile that causes a target to explode), using bombs to enhance the power of her attacks like sending denji flying with a kick, or just use her hands to blow anyone up in her sight. She can even make her opponent explode… well, in a different way. Moves like her spark attack actually cause the target themselves to explode, not the spark, which appears to blow them up from the inside out like when she blew off Denji’s arms, though it seems this can also be done through direct physical contact, shown with her creating a bunch of internal explosions inside of Beam.

Bomb Creation

@togatapunch

Similarly to her ability to make explosions, Reze can also use her ability to make portable bombs she can throw at people. This can stem from, say, her limbs like  her head which she can throw like a grenade or her entire body neck-under which she uses to throw onto unsuspecting Devil Hunters. Reze also has the ability to turn her own limbs or fingers into bombs (she can even shoot out her fingers as mini-missiles!) which can enhance her already explosive attack into something far greater; she can even use pieces of her clothes to make a large cluster of bombs to spread across a whole river of blood, though if she doesn’t want to just blow shit up, she can just stretch out her limbs and wrap them onto an opponent to swing them around like she’s Spider-Man. The only real downside to this ability is it would reasonably make Reze lose a lot of blood if used an excessive amount of times.

Well everyone has been a kid once, and Bakugo is no exception! In the few flashbacks we’ve seen of preschool age Bakugo, he can make tiny sparks with his powers, beat up other children his age, and walk out of being submerged underwater just fine! Also he may or may not have developed his overinflated ego from adults giving him non-stop praise up until his teens so uhh… raise your kids right folks.

@PandtraYamus

Of course we aren’t going to explain what a human is and if you want to know what a human is… there are sources that are available and we would suggest looking into them. Because not knowing what humankind is in this day and age is quite concerning. Yes, we are milking this joke.

Scaling

Bakugo

Given his status as one of the top dogs in My Hero’s scaling hierarchy, there’s no question as to whether or not he would scale to lower and mid tier U.A. Students, and even most of the Pro Heroes we see. At his maximum output (Quirk Awakening), he can even challenge characters in the same league as Prime All for One. If Tomura Shigaraki didn’t block his Howitzer Impact: Cluster attack, it would have done a good deal of damage to the villain. Not to mention, Bakugo, again, fought All for One at his youngest, which would be a stronger version of All for One than anyone else fought in the series, aside from All Might of course. Though, it should be mentioned that Bakugo’s scaling is primarily with his quirk, as when Shigaraki got hands on him, it wasn’t much of a contest. His arm was crushed, and he had a hole blown in his chest, all with little effort from Tomura. Despite that, Bakugo is comfortably and without a doubt, one of My Hero Academia’s high tiers.

Reze

When it comes to where Reze can scale it is quite easy to determine where she does and doesn’t. When it comes to ordinary devils, devil hunters, or fiends she would definitely scale to anything they do. She has fought and won in her fights with the whole Devil Hunter unit, defeated fiends such as Violence (who is noted to be far stronger than the average Fiend), and even early series Denji. There is also the fact that devils such as Typhoon are scared of her power, so any character around that tier of power is fair game for her to scale to.  However, when it comes to characters like the Four Horsemen and Hero of Hell Denji/Pochita and their devil power though she obviously doesn’t scale due to both her fear not being the same level as them but also because she died by the hands of Makima/Angel’s higher-tier weaponry pretty easily.

Weaknesses

Bakugo

With his overwhelming power in battle, it’s hard to imagine Bakugo possessing any weaknesses, but he does have some cracks in his armor. Overexertion of his quirk can damage his arms, and the very nature of his quirk demands that he’s able to produce sweat, which means any cold or rainy environments can weaken his output, albeit his equipment allows him to bypass this to a degree. Cluster also takes a heavy toll on Bakugo as it places a tremendous amount of burden on his sweat glands, causing Bakugo to feel immense pain with every move he makes.

Reze

While in her fight Reze doesn’t present any obvious weaknesses besides the fact that being trapped underwater would make Reze unable to create any explosions, she does have some in the form of her physiology. While hybrids can regenerate from basically anything thrown at them, it comes at the cost of their blood. If a hybrid were to lose an excessive amount of blood, they may soon not be able to activate their devil forms and even be left in a comatose state. This is how Reze was able to beat Denji at one point in their fight, with her blowing up Denji enough times that he was left with just his torso until Angel was able to get blood for Denji to come back to life.

Stats

In terms of stats, we’ll go over their direct showcases first and then scale them to other characters, and see who has the advantage either way. Reze’s best direct showing would be her giant firework over Tokyo Tower, which lends a yield of 200 Tons of TNT. Speed-wise, her best showing is punching Beam repeatedly before he explodes, which lends a speed of Mach 12. Not too shabby, but Bakugo has superior numbers across the board. His Howitzer Impact making an explosive tornado lends a yield of over 400 Kilotons of TNT, over a thousand times stronger. Speed-wise, his Mach 728 feat of blitzing rain is also hundreds of times faster, lending him a clean edge across the board in stats based purely on their direct showings.

Scaling is not particularly kind to Reze, either. Let’s be absolutely generous and scale her to the absolute best speed and power calcs we could – the Gun Devil’s speed and a re-calced version of the Typhoon Devil’s storm. Even with the highest speed Gun Devil calc getting Mach 1390 (which is extremely generous to give Reze in the first place, though not unfounded given she could fight and seriously threaten a fake Denji seconds before he’d go on to fight and hold his ground against Makima in a 1v1), Reze would still be thousands of times slower than My Hero’s various light-timing feats. Star & Stripe dodging a radio wave, a Nomu dodging a laser from the hero X-Less, you get it.

And in terms of power, the 12 Megaton Typhoon Devil storm pales in comparison to the storm the Todorokis made across Japan, which gets over 500 Megatons on the low-end, making Bakugo much stronger than the direct feat comparison would imply. This is without considering the levels he can reach with higher output via Cluster, or scaling to other high feats in the verse you can argue. On top of this, while Reze’s most notable travel speed feats are just boosting herself across the city at vaguely supersonic speeds or upscaling the Violence Fiend’s Mach 145 showing, the aforementioned Mach 728 speed feat applies directly to Bakugo’s travel speed when boosted by explosions, letting him consistently outpace Reze. As a result, stats fall firmly in Bakugo’s hands, giving him the overall edge.

Arsenal & Abilities

In terms of abilities, neither of these two are very complicated, as they mostly… well, cause huge explosions. Whether launching them directly from their hands or using them as projectiles or boosting themselves across the city at insane speeds, they apply their explosions in similar ways, meaning neither are going to have an edge in that regard. Both can cause your typical kabooms, both can cause delayed kabooms, both can shoot out attacks that cause kabooms from a distance, etc. While Reze can cause internal explosions through physical contact or her snap-spark move, Bakugo can tank some degree of internal damage thanks to how Cluster works in regard to internal body explosions, meaning this wouldn’t impede him too much in the long run, and she’d need to reliably catch him for this to work anyways. Her ability to turn objects or her own body parts into bombs could admittedly surprise Bakugo maybe once or twice, but it’s not something that would grant her too much of an edge in the long run besides some slightly better versatility in how she can make a big kaboom.

Their abilities for the most part cancel out… except for the obvious elephant in the room. Reze can regenerate, Bakugo cannot. Reze’s regeneration is also absurd, being able to regenerate much if not all of her body from damage. Sure, it can be overtaxed if Reze loses enough blood, but that’s still an ability Bakugo doesn’t have, and it would take a decent bit for her regeneration to run out even without a supply of blood, and which would last even longer if she manages to drink even a single drop of blood from Bakugo (though given the stat-gap, it’d be highly unlikely she could drink any of his blood more than once), meaning Reze should have an overall edge in abilities.

Tertiary Factors

And finally, tertiary factors also end up mattering a decent bit in this match. First of all, mobility goes to Bakugo. While both can move around at insanely fast speeds with their explosions, Bakugo being able to cause multiple at once with Cluster from essentially any part of his body means he has much more precise control over where he ends up going, as Reze tends to only create explosions from her limbs to move, meaning he would have more effective control of the pace of the fight.

In terms of skill, both have advantages. Reze obviously has better training in CQC, but it’s also safe to say that sort of thing wouldn’t really matter in a fight with a super fast projectile spammer, who Reze doesn’t have any relevant experience with. If she got in close, she could likely put him on the backfoot, but her inferior mobility and being vastly slower makes this scenario highly unlikely. While Bakugo hasn’t fought anyone with the same Quirk as his, he has fought people in fast-paced distanced fights before, and he has a lot better showings of Battle IQ across his time as a hero than Reze does in her arc. Fairly simple comparison: Reze has been an assassin focusing on catching her targets off-guard all her life while Bakugo has put his life on the line against villains stronger than him throughout the whole story of MHA. Additionally, while it obviously isn’t 1-to-1 with Reze’s regeneration, the fact Bakugo has fought someone with an insane healing factor by overtaxing it in the form of All For One is definitely of note, as he would be aware of the kind of strategy he’d need to employ here. It’s also highly unlikely Reze could try to outlast Bakugo via her regeneration, as not only would Bakugo know to try to overwhelm it, but his sheer endurance has allowed him to fight for extended periods of time on death’s door, with severe injuries, and even after being hospitalized, while on the other hand, we’ve seen Hybrid healing factors simply be overwhelmed by a strength difference and spamming constant explosions, ironically, thanks to Reze. Overall, relevant tertiaries also favor Bakugo, ending our discussion.

Conclusion

You wanna talk about some big disparity? Lack of understanding? Dread? Guess what–I’ve long since taken all that crap to heart. And I’ve seen… a real step towards progress, with all that. It might take some time, but some people I know are trying… to push forward. Thanks anyway, but… YOU CAN SHOVE YOUR SERMON… YA NUTSTACK-FACED HANDY MAN!

  • Takes the stat trinity by a gigantic margin.
  • Better showings of battle IQ.
  • Better mobility.
  • Every Reze slander piece in this blog.

Disadvantages:

  • Inferior survivability.
  • Worse H2H skill.
  • Every Bakugo slander piece in this blog.

Really…why didn’t I kill you the first time we met? Denji. Truth is…I’ve never gone to school either.

Advantages:

  • Superior survivability…
  • Better H2H skill.
  • Internal explosions could do some damage to Bakugo…
  • Every Bakugo slander piece in this blog.

Disadvantages:

  • Wrecked in every stat.
  • …until Bakugo makes her lose enough blood so she can’t heal.
  • Inferior strategy.
  • Worse mobility.
  • …but given his experience with internal explosions, not enough to matter.
  • Every Reze slander piece in this blog.

Overall, this match is fairly clear cut across the board. While Reze has much better survivability and some superior tertiary factors, Bakugo’s insane stat advantage, superior mobility, and better strategy and relevant experience means that more often than not, Dynamight will reign supreme over the Bomb Devil. Hate to bomb your expectations, but the one with the superior dynamight in this match was the hero.

The winner is Katsuki Bakugo[1] .

Final Tally

Katsuki Bakugo (9) – door-kun, Frost, greymerlion2, Hi Hi, NormallyNormal, TheCardinalKing, Toxin, WWAL, Yerm

Reze (0) Will come back in Part 3 trust
