“I am a demon hunter. Clearly, I am not afraid of the dark.” -Cassandra Clare
Dante, the half-human, half-demon hunter from Devil May Cry.
Bayonetta, the platinum-starred angel-slaying Umbra Witch.
When demons, angels, eldritch horrors and everything in between (so long as it’s supernatural) starts to invade our planet, these two will be there to defend it from total annihilation. Armed with friends, charms, looks, and most importantly: a fuckton of weapons, they have saved the world, the universe and even the multiverse all while looking (and being) badass at it.
These two stylish demon hunters have fought before (with controversial results, depending on who you ask), but in the time since, we’ve gotten a greater look at what they can do from Devil May Cry 5 and Bayonetta 3. And so today, 7 years later, they are going to face off in a rematch for the ages. Will Dante make Cereza say hi to Lucifer once again, or will Bayonetta make this devil cry one last time? It’s time to find out who would win in this DEATH BATTLE!
In Case You Were
Wondering…
For Dante, we will be looking at canonical Devil May Cry content, including the games, novels, anime, and guides. You can find nearly all media used on this blog here. Peak of Combat’s current canonical status is in limbo, set in a parallel universe. The game has a multiverse setting, with multiple versions of Dante being in the game. The only one that will be addressed in this blog is the Devil Sword version, as recent events heavily imply it is the canon Dante shortly after the events of DMC 5.
For Bayonetta (We should note we’re using Cereza specifically due to certain circumstances in 3), all three of her games will be used, as will all guides and the Bloody Fate film. While Bayonetta 3 implies the three main Bayonettas across the games are different, it is also specified they have similar experiences. For the purposes of this blog, they will be treated as a composite.

Background
Dante

Two thousand years ago, a great evil turned its attention to the Human World. The Demon King Mundus decided it was time to rule over both the realm of man and demons, only to then be opposed by a lone demon warrior, Sparda. Eventually Sparda settled down with a woman named Eva, and had twin sons, Vergil and Dante. Eva was a kind and loving mother, beloved by her children and husband. Not all things last though. When the twins turned eight, Eva gave them each half of an amulet, not long after Sparda disappeared, having supposedly passed away. Taking this opportunity for revenge, Mundus’ forces came upon the family. Eva lost her life in the tragedy and the twins were separated, with Dante believing his brother had perished. Following his mother’s final instructions, Dante took up the name Tony Redgrave and hid away from the demons.
At the age of 18, Dante discovered that his brother Vergil was not only still alive, but plotting to open a passage to the Demon World their father had sealed long ago. Encountering a young woman named Mary, Dante was caught in a plot by the dark scholar, Arkham. At the behest of said scholar, he was soundly defeated by Vergil, who took his half of the amulet their mother had left them, but inadvertently awakened Dante’s full demonic abilities. Then he teamed up with Mary, renamed Lady, to stop the duo. Vergil was then betrayed by the Scholar, who wished to take Sparda’s sealed away power as his own. Both brothers together defeated Arkham, and Lady killed the mad man, who was in reality her father. Not content, Vergil dueled Dante one final time, with Dante emerging the victor. The encounter left Vergil trapped in the Demon World, while Dante returned to Earth.
Over the next several years, Dante worked with other devil hunters to stop more demonic threats from the underworld. During this time, Mundus had captured Vergil and had turned him into his personal knight, Nelo Angelo. Plotting to finally finish off Sparda’s descendants and once more take over the Human World, Mundus made a demon in the visage of Eva, named Trish. Trish convinced Dante to come to Mallet Island, under the false notion of defeating her evil master.
On Mallet Island Dante faced many dangers, like the demonic weapon Nightmare and Nelo Angelo. Through his skill and show of will, Dante defeated Nelo, who exploded and was thought to have perished. Dante learned of Trish’s deceit, yet still saved her life from certain death. Trish repaid the favor, dying to save Dante from Mundus’ wrath. Fueled by anger, Dante accepted the power of his father’s sword (The Sword of Sparda) and faced off in a climactic battle with the Demonic Lord. Dante emerged victorious, and sealed Mundus away with the help of a revived Trish. Together, Trish and Dante worked from their shop, renamed “Devil Never Cry.”
The Son of Sparda soon discovered he had a nephew left by his brother Vergil on a land that Sparda once reigned over. In a mission to stop a corrupt church from abusing the power of his father, Dante discovered Nero, his nephew. Together the two took down the evils on Fortuna, and Dante reclaimed the Yamato before passing it down to Nero. Vergil, however, had not died all those years ago. He had barely survived and came back to take his old blade from his son. Using the sword, Vergil split himself into V and a demon named Urizen. Urizen would use the ancient plant called Qliphoth to gain power by consuming blood from mankind. Dante, V, and Nero tried to stop the monster, but Dante was left for dead, with V and Nero barely escaping.
A month later, V awakened Dante, who then used his own blade Rebellion to fuse with the sword of Sparda. He also met Nico, granddaughter of Nell. Now at the pinnacle of his power, Dante defeated Urizen. V and Urizen merged back together into Vergil, and the two brothers set to settle the score once and for all. And after a climactic battle, it was settled not by the Sons of Sparda, but his grandson. And now the Legendary Devil Hunter is in the Demon World, bringing endless suffering to the scum of the underworld.
Bayonetta

“As long as there’s music, I’ll keep on dancing!”
Long since erased from the records of time, there once existed two European clans who served as overseers of history for the powers that be: the Umbra Witches, dwellers of the darkness, and the Lumen Sages, controllers of light. The clans paid each other great respect, and their efforts to maintain the balance between them defended the just passage of time. Yet one day, that balance was toppled. The Lumen Sages declared war against their others, the Umbra Witches. In the end all but one Lumen Sage and two Umbra Witches. For the Lumen Sages, a man by the name of Balder. For the Umbra Witches, Jeanne and her best friend Cereza.
Cereza was a bit special compared to other witches. She was the child of both a Lumen Sage and Umbra Witch. This unfortunately is a taboo and as such made the young Cereza an outcast. After the battle against the sages, Cereza was sealed away by Jeanne and her coffin was sent to the bottom of a lake for 500 years until she was awakened. Cereza, now going by Bayonetta, began wandering the world with amnesia, until she met the fallen angel Rodin and the informant Enzo.
20 years after being awakened, she met once again with Jeanne and the two fought multiple times, until she revealed the truth to Bayonetta at Isla Del Sol. Then, they went off to defeat Father Balder, who was actually Bayonetta’s father. But even after defeating him, he still had one more trick up his sleeve: reawaken Jubileus the Creator in order to unite the Trinity of Realities and allow Paradiso to rule over the universe. But through her combat prowess and Jeanne helping her to summon Queen Sheba, Bayonetta managed to kill Balder and send Jubileus hurling into the sun.
After a long journey, Bayonetta finally fully recovered her memories and became a sort of unofficial protector for the world, eventually taking on Loptr, who sought the power of the God of Chaos Aesir, in a conflict that spanned both the past and present. And ultimately, Cereza’s battles would take her to the multiverse against the artificial human Singularity, who sought to destroy and rule the entire Trinity of Reality, in a multiversal invasion that cost the lives of almost every single Bayonetta across the multiverse. Until Arch-Eve Origin Bayonetta (the Bayonetta of 3) saved them all along with the multiverse itself… at the cost of her own life, making sure Singularity went down before her.
Despite this Cereza’s life coming to an end, she had managed to find a worthy successor of the Bayonetta name, in her and Luka’s alternate-universe daughter Viola. Though regardless of who the Bayonetta name is used by, whether it be a variant from another universe or a successor, Cereza will always be remembered as the Bayonetta who’s one-of-a-kind under the moon.
Experience & Skill
Dante

Despite his overall cockiness, Dante is exceptionally skilled in combat. He is a quick learner, mastering the Devil Arms he acquires within moments of obtaining them, and quickly getting the hang of utilizing his various Styles. He is a master swordsman, proving himself superior to Sparda’s best students and being claimed to have surpassed his father as well. He is equal to his brother Vergil, who is the pinnacle of swordplay in DMC, and could match Gilver, who was able to instantly read all of Dante’s moves through analyzing them, which Dante says should be impossible.
Dante at age 19 was precise enough to shoot cue balls, striking all them into one another in turn tossing them into all the demons with near pinpoint accuracy. Later on in life, he managed to fight off Chen in swordsmanship, who gained the power and knowledge of the Beastheads, transferring that to experience and stealing Sparda’s sword skills. Dante fended him off with one hand, keeping up with him despite Chen’s precognition.
Dante has bested Mundus’ best warriors, who have hundreds years of combat experience, actively participating in a full scale war with the armies of Argosax. Dante has even defeated the former god Bolverk, who was known as Odin. Bolverk was Argosax’ most skilled fighter, as well as the rival of Sparda, and yet was completely outclassed by the pizza-loving demon hunter. Perhaps most impressively, at a young age he defeated the Black Knights with ease, said Knights being made with Sparda, Dante, and Vergil’s combat data. Dante’s skills have been so honed he can sense danger off of raw reflexes and instinct alone.
Dante has shown decent knowledge in martial arts, knowing kung fu and actively demonstrating his martial skill with Balrog. With Balrog, he displays extremely impressive break dancing styled kicks, likely Capoeira, as well as a weaving boxing fighting style with lots of jabs. Dante knows various different fighting styles, and is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and the Royal Guard is described as being Demon martial arts. He also has impressive latent abilities in acrobatics and weapon usage, as he mimicked Vergil’s style with precision, despite Trish never seeing Dante use a katana before, and has the uncanny ability to be able to use and master every weapon he comes across at a touch. He has a sharp mind, able to instantly understand the true power extent of Mundus’ generals in the alternate universe, and the intentions of Modeus and Baal in the anime.
Overall, Dante is an extremely deadly fighter and the peak of what Devil May Cry has to offer.
Bayonetta

Befitting her overall confidence in battle, Bayonetta has proven time and time again that she’s an extremely skilled and talented combatant. She is a master with firearms as well as hand to hand combat and magic, and is also extremely skilled in fighting entire hordes of enemies at once, even going so far to mix in dancing to her fighting style to style all over her opponents. Despite this overly flashy style, Bayonetta has proven quite effective in not only confusing opponents with her bizarre movements, but overwhelming them with unconventional attacks.
She has consistently fought various high-ranking angels in her time, such as Fortitudo, Temperantia, etc. This also extends to demons such as Alraune and Phantasmaraneae (the latter of whom creates smaller demons to overwhelm its victims). However, most impressively is that she has fought the various Homunculi created by Singularity, as well as multiple gods such as Aesir and Jubileus. She has shown to be able to stay focused on her opponents even in the advent of various insane things going on around her, or being thrown at her from all sides. She is capable of dealing with Baldur, who was able to launch an attack from a satellite in space. She can keep pace with and overwhelm Jubileus, who constantly changes the battlefield to her advantage. She can fight opponents such as Aesir and Singularity, who can warp reality itself in their fights.
She can also match other Umbra Witches such as Jeanne. Unlike Bayonetta who was sealed away for 500 years and must fight based on her pure instinct, Jeanne has spent 500 years honing her skills in combat, yet Bayonetta can match her evenly in skill. This is even more absurd when you realize that Bayonetta had no actual witch training, and merely got her skills by observing other witches and training on her own. This is on top of her mastery of controlling demons with various temperaments, and summoning the ones who best counter her foes.
Finally, Bayonetta is capable of keeping up with herself as well. She was able to fight one of the many versions of herself in France, not only matching her, but defeating her. She was also able to defeat that particular Bayonetta’s mother Rosa, who utilized the Umbra Clock Tower demon, which granted her tricky abilities such as teleportation and an onslaught of heavy weaponry.
Bayonetta’s marksmanship is notably extremely good, considering she can land multiple headshots despite attacking rapidly and at times in awkward angles, such as laying on her back on top of a moving angel. Her weapon mastery extends far beyond guns however; she is shown to immediately be able to masterfully utilize any weapon she gets her hands on. List of weapons including swords, nunchaku, whips, bows, scythes, chainsaws, yo-yos, etc. She was even able to match Singularity Definition in combat, despite it having all the data of the multiverse and the memories of all Bayonettas that have existed.
Overall, Bayonetta is an extremely capable and skilled combatant who has consistently fought multiple opponents who would be far more experienced than her, matching them in skill whether they be witch, sage, angel, demon, homunculi or deity. No matter what her world throws against her, Bayonetta will always be ready to dance.
Equipment
Dante
Devil Arms

Dante uses a set of weapons known as “Devil Arms”, living weapons that contain the power and soul of various demons. The demons who manifest as these weapons normally need to be subdued, defeated, or convinced to help Dante of their own will before they can be wielded. Additionally, when Dante enters his Devil Trigger forms (explained below), he can harness the power of these weapons to slightly modify the physical form and abilities his Devil Trigger will take on. Devil Arms can also regenerate from damage over time.
Rebellion

Introduced in Devil May Cry 2, it is Dante’s most iconic blade throughout the series to date. Given to him by his father, Sparda, it contains Sparda’s power and is the physical manifestation of Dante’s power. As such, the blade contains immense amounts of renown and might, and is one of the three most powerful blades in existence. With Rebellion, Dante can unleash a blade of air when swinging it. As the natural opposite to Yamato, it can withstand Yamato’s attacks, which are sharp enough to cut through space and dimensions. Not only that, but it also features the precise opposite of Yamato’s power of splitting Man and Demon, fusing Man and Demon. It was also the same blade that gave rise to Dante’s Devil Trigger at the age of 19, throughout the events of Devil May Cry 3.
Ebony & Ivory

Crafted by Nell Goldstein, it’s a memento of one of Dante’s many lost mother figures. She was an incredibly gifted and skilled gunsmith, and personally made these due to the fact Dante himself breaks any normal gun he touches by firing at superhuman speeds. Ebony is his long-range arm, while Ivory is designed for quick drawing and rapid fire. They fire bullets enhanced by Demonic Energy, and the projectiles contain spirits. They have been used to seal away threats Dante himself cannot kill, such as Mundus (more on that later), and are some of his most prominent handguns.
DMC3 Weapons
Cerberus

A set of nunchaku that allow Dante to utilize the power of ice for himself, it is a powerful Devil Arm that Dante used in his journey throughout the Temen-ni-gru. As it was made with the essence of the Cerberus clan, its powers over the cold should not be understated, as it was only destroyed by matching Balrog, who was amplified by a shard of Yamato after purposely training his power to defeat Argosax.
Agni & Rudra

Twin sets of blades that control the elements of fire and wind, capable of creating gusts of wind and infernos of flame. These winds are so great that with Rudra alone, he can create entire meteorological events such as tornadoes. On the other hand, the flames of Agni burn so brightly that they can melt even the most frigid of temperatures and burn Demons, who are naturally resistant to many forms of fire and hellfire.
Separate they are formidable, and together they are unstoppable, creating fiery whirls of destruction and amplifying their already potent destructive powers. Dante uses them both for the best and most stylish of results. Dante obtained these items in the Temen-ni-gru by defeating two Demons of the same name, and ever since then has kept the two as his own personal dispenser of both pain and justice to demons, though they occasionally talk, much to his chagrin.
Nevan

A quite literally electric guitar, Nevan attacks and strikes with poise unmatched as it demonstrates control over lightning itself, allowing Dante to fire and summon the element as well as bats. Furthermore, this guitar is also doubling as, I kid you not, a scythe to tear into foes with gusto and deal out tons of damage at once. Nevan also has the ability to distort the space around Dante from just the sounds he plays, damaging his opponents by merely playing music, which he is quite good at doing in general thanks to his natural talent and aptitude for any act he may partake in.
Beowulf

Beowulf does damage with the essence of the Light Beast itself, a gauntlet and greaves set that was created by Vergil after Beowulf escaped Dante. Later on, Dante himself finds the gauntlets and uses them, utilizing his own spin on Vergil’s attacks and adding his very own, alongside his already massive arsenal of weapons makes this a fearsome weapon. As it’s made with the Lightbeast, it of course can do all sorts of light-related attacks, such as firing a blast of energy, or attacking with an aura of photons to smash Dante’s enemies into dust.
Artemis

Made by the old architect of Devil Arms and Demonic Artifacts, Machiavelli, Artemis can manipulate and fire beams of light-arrows with ease and poise. One of the oldest Devil Arms ever, it is an impressive ranged weapon capable of raining from above, firing arrows directly, rapid fire and even locking on to targets. Its light beams all attack and fire however Dante desires, on as many targets as he wants. These shots are capable of doing all sorts of damage and stunning enemies, and are more than capable of dishing out destruction to rain hell upon Demon Kind. The energy beams from the weapon are made of demonic energy.
Spiral

A sniper Dante uses throughout the events of his older brother reviving the Demonic Tower, the Temen-ni-gru, it’s a capable firearm with high damage output. This is further amplified by Demonic Energy enhancing his attacks, making them that much more potent and that much more deadly.
The bullets from it can ricochet off of walls and hit multiple enemies, however Dante learned a skill in which he intentionally makes the bullet ricochet multiple times to pick up speed, making it more lethal.
Kalina Ann

The original Kalina Ann, it was given to Dante by Lady. It was named after her mother, who was slain by Arkham for power in a ritual. It’s a behemoth that fires massive damage at decent speeds, and has a bayonet claw function. It does heavy damage, moves fast, and has wonderful range. Its rockets can also track enemies.
DMC1 Weapons
Force Edge

The Force Edge is the dormant version of the Devil Sword Sparda. Containing a fraction of the power of Sparda, it was used by Arkham for more power and to become a Demon, but was ultimately taken by Dante and Vergil. After a final battle, Dante laid claim to this item and used it in place of Rebellion in the events of Devil May Cry 1, allowing it to be awakened into its true form. Now resides as part of Devil Sword Dante, but irregular Full Custom from Devil May Cry 5 allows Dante to use all weapons at once, and there should be no reason Dante can’t revert the blade. Force Edge homes in on opponents and can create a whirlwind when thrown.
Devil Sword Sparda

The Devil Sword Sparda is the true form of the Force Edge. It grants a portion of the great Sparda’s power, and was used by Dante to achieve the Sparda Devil Trigger, a higher level of power from the normal Devil Trigger that allowed Dante to fight and defeat Mundus. It allowed Dante to fire explosive runes and summon a dragon. This blade was also used to hold in place the sealing of Demon World, and hid Dante’s presence whilst he was in danger of being discovered. It can extend into a long spear, or take on the form of a scythe.
Alastor

Holding within the Spirit of Lightning, this sword amplifies the user’s speed and grants them access to the power of Lightning itself. The speed amplification is enough to boost an alternate Trish to be faster than Dante himself, and grant the ability to fly. It also has the ability to fly and protect Dante on its own. Alastor can predict incoming evil to warn Dante of, even when danger is not physically approaching.
Ifrit

A set of gauntlets and greaves much like Balrog. Ifrit has the capability to manipulate flames to an impressive level and range of ability, melting sub-Absolute Zero ice, as well as damaging those who would be traditionally resistant to flames. This is because it was imbued with the spirit of a fire-elemental demon and its attacks are charged with magical hellfire, far more intense than any natural source of flame could ever produce.
The Hellfire it produces is not to be scoffed at, and it has an ability unique to itself known as Magma Drive, a blast of intense heat that’ll turn anything it comes into contact with to ash, as well as another unique ability known as Meteor, where Dante will lob entire balls of fire at his enemies in an attempt to raze them down.
Grenade Gun

A Grenade Launcher that Dante has, made not only for the slaughter of demons, but also crowd control, able to detonate explosive shrapnel and reduce them all to ash. Said Grenade Gun does massive damage, more than any other normal gun Dante has outside of Lady’s pride and joy. It has a much slower reload rate and is liable to leave Dante wide open, but it’s still one of Dante’s more powerful firearms.
Needle Gun

Used for underwater combat, Dante has a Needle Gun he uses to kill those beneath the earth and plague the trenches of the deep. Outside of this, the firearm is incredibly basic, mainly assisted by the fact Dante can enhance any firearm he puts his hands on with Demonic Energy. As such, it’s a mundane firearm that isn’t very notable and honestly is easily overlooked.
Nightmare β

Nightmare-β is a Devil Arm that acts like a gun, firing Demonic Energy as its form of bullets to kill and maim its targets and prey. Its projectiles have the peculiar ability to bounce off walls and ricochet towards targets or other enemies if it was to miss or hit and still continue flying. In order to function, it must drain Demonic Energy from its user, but fortunately for Dante, he’s essentially a walking endless repository of the stuff to use and manipulate for this weapon to feed on and deal damage with. It is one of the more dangerous firearms in Dante’s arsenal.
DMC2 Weapons
Vendetta and Merciless

Merciless is a sword Dante has access to in DMC2. It is weaker than Rebellion but has a much longer reach than the standard keepsake blade, and strikes moderately faster. Unlike the many weapons Dante has access to, it has no unique abilities. It is not made of a Demon, nor does it have any other redeeming qualities of its own to benefit Dante outside of looking different from his standard sword.
Vendetta is the polar opposite of this, being a standard sword that is stronger than Rebellion at the cost of a slower attack and smaller range. Similar to Merciless, and unlike the many weapons Dante has access to, it has no unique abilities, is not made of a Demon, nor does it have any other redeeming aspect.
Guns

SMGs
A set of low-power but incredibly high fire-rate submachine guns. They hit rapidly, faster than most can respond to, and as such easily make up for their lack of damage by stacking damage.
Shotgun/Coyote-A
An ordinary shotgun that Dante uses to kill low-level demons throughout the first few Devil May Cry games. After some time, Dante eventually modified the shotgun and renamed it Coyote-A. Coyote-A is a heavily modified firearm made specifically for causing the demise of the hordes of hellspawn, doing far more damage than Ebony and Ivory.
Missile Launcher
A high power Missile Launcher that fires slowly. Similar to the Grenade Launcher, but with missiles. While it has low accuracy and slow movement, it has absurdly high firepower, giving even greater crowd control. Besides, who says a Devil Hunter can’t have fun while on the job?
Beryl’s Anti-Tank Rifle

This firearm absorbs and destroys the bonds of magic as well as magic itself with Anti-Magic bullets. Dante himself says that being touched by them would likely remove his superhuman abilities; this effect can even create vortexes that absorb and destroy magic. Dante was given this weapon by Beryl after the events of Vol. 2, so he should be able to use this weapon in combat.
DMC4 Weapons
Gilgamesh

Made by a material that transmutes organic matter for power, Gilgamesh is used by Dante after defeating Echidna. It obviously amplifies the strength of a user’s blows, and can be amplified an extra layer further through the engines that exist on it for extra oomph. It dishes out slower attacks, but it’s clearly worth it given the level of extra firepower it allows Dante to deal. It also has some extra range with the drills and saws on the arms and legs respectively.
Lucifer

Lucifer is a Devil Arm that maintains endless explosive lightsaber-like swords that Dante can freely manipulate through positioning and placing them around the battlefield, to set up and dish out intense and crazy amounts of damage at once in one big and satisfying finish. There is no set limit to the number he can manifest, which he can detonate with a clap or the toss of a rose.
Pandora

An all-you-can-kill buffet, as this weapon turns into six hundred and sixty six different weapons with their own ways to deal damage. Currently only seven are known. Formations 13 (Epidemic), 124 (Hatred), 262 (Jealousy), 398 (Revenge), 422 (Grief), 594 (Argument), and 666 (Omen). They range from missile launchers, a minigun, a giant laser cannon, a super mega beyblade, a moving missile vehicle, and a massive flash of light. Made by Machiavelli, the same man who made Artemis, it’s the most versatile weapon in his arsenal.
- PF013: Epidemic: Turns Pandora into a blowgun, though it looks more like a small missile launcher to us.
- PF125: Hatred: Turns Pandora into a bazooka. Projectiles from said bazooka can reduce enemies to ashes.
- PF398: Revenge: Turns Pandora into a laser cannon.
- PF262: Jealousy: Turns Pandora into a gatling gun.
- PF594: Argument: Turns Pandora into a small vehicle capable of firing a multitude of homing missiles (up to 14).
- PF422: Grief: Turns Pandora into a triple-bladed shuriken-esque boomerang. It always comes back to Dante, but will seek out any opponent he locks onto.
- PF666: Omen: Dante opens the suitcase creating a blast of light that damages all surrounding enemies in a large explosion.
Yamato

(Note: Dante is only getting a fragment of Yamato, read below for info)
Yamato is one of the three swords Sparda split his power into, so it’s natural Dante had access to this weapon himself. Its power is so immense, holding unimaginable power in even only splinters. Its fragments are still sharp and powerful enough to pierce the boundaries between worlds. It can slice through dimensions and space, thus ignoring conventional durability (it cuts through both matter and space-time) and can separate “Power from Heart” and Man from Devil. In the process, it split off the memories of Vergil’s enslavement and created V, as well as his familiars. It revived Nero, giving him more power and access to his father’s Summoned Swords. It can also be used to cut off the Human World from that of the Demons, and can allow transport between them via cutting space and creating portals even after the realms had been locked by Sparda.
It also was able to separate Nero from the Savior, which was a being made of melded-together spirit and demon matter. Dante notes that Nero’s body would have been dissolved, to such a degree Nero was losing his memories and ability to think clearly. Vergil and Urizen also once used the sword to create a barrier.
While Dante no longer has the blade, he still has a shard of it he used to escape the Demon World, and Yamato was a part of his standard arsenal throughout the events of Devil May Cry 4, like many of his other one time game specific weapons. When Dante wielded it, he could send attacks that cut through dimensional barriers, which he used to cut a Hell Gate, and use the Dark Slayer fighting style.
DMC5 Weapons
Double Kalina Ann

A pair of rocket launchers that Dante obtained from Lady and the granddaughter of the best weaponsmith in the modern era, Nell Goldstein, Nico Goldstein. The original Kalina Ann was already a monstrous force, but this is its power times two. The Kalina Ann II is identical to the Kalina Ann in every way, meant to serve as a replacement, but when put together a secret mechanism activates that allows Dante to fire them as a laser of death.
Cavaliere/Cavaliere R

Motorcycle buzzsaw combo weapon. It is as cool as it sounds. With it, Dante shreds through armor, shields, flesh, anything really. It’s a damage-dealing set of weapons that rank among the most stylish and crazy weapons in gaming history.
King Cerberus

A Multiform weapon that uses ice, fire, and lightning in the form of triple Nunchaku, Bō Staff, and a Sansetsukon. Described by Nico as the upgrade to the original Cerberus from Devil May Cry 3, Dante gained it from slaying the leader of the Cerberus clan. If the original Cerberus can match a Yamato amped and trained Balrog who specifically aimed to defeat Argosax, imagine what his King can do.
Dr. Faust

A Devil Arm made by Nico based on her father’s research; fires crystallized demon blood like bullets. It is also stylish as hell and can invoke the most amazing dance ever. With it, Dante can place hats on targets and pull them towards himself, and create a protective shell of crystals that attack enemies that get too close. The Hat itself can also attack enemies for Dante, and can fire crystallized blood meteors. By sacrificing Red Orbs, Dante can increase the damage it causes, to the point it is the second most powerful attack in DMC5’s gameplay.
Balrog

Balrog is a set of gauntlets and greaves that attack and damage with the hottest fires of Hell, more intense than even the great demon Berial’s flames. These hell flames damage on a level that completely eliminates Demons like the Fury. The greaves allow for great evasion and punishing blows, with fierce and powerful attacks that can also be separated into two categories, these being Kick Mode and Blow Mode.
With Kick Mode Dante attacks with much more swift leg-based attacks, and Blow Mode is more focused on punches that hit incredibly hard. Dante gained this weapon shortly before the start of Devil May Cry 5, and did so after defeating an Yamato-amped Balrog—the left hand of Argosax—who specifically trained his power to defeat his previous master.
Devil Sword Dante

Devil Sword Dante is the representation of Dante’s power, his very being placed into a blade that truly represents the merging of his humanity and demonic nature. This blade is composed of both the Devil Sword Sparda and the Rebellion, Dante’s keepsake sword from his father. It has great power, created by Rebellion’s ability to merge Man and Devil.
It was made and forged from Dante’s own body after absorbing the Rebellion and Sparda blades and turned into a new Weapon entirely, granting him a new Sword Formation ability, and his newest Devil Trigger state, Sin Devil Trigger. Dante can materialize this weapon wherever and whenever he wants. It also has a will of its own, using the Sword Formation ability to back up Dante offensively and defensively.
Sword Formation

Sword Formation is a move that summons glowing red swords similar to Vergil’s Summoned Swords, which enhance Dante’s capabilities. The swords will copy Dante’s melee moves, dealing extra damage and sometimes having unique effects, such as Balrog’s kick-launcher Updraft now kicking the enemy into a persistent spinning sword-wheel that forms in mid-air. They can be used as a shield and detect nearby threats, slashing automatically to keep them at bay. They can even be fired as beyblades.
Stars/Consumables
Note: Stars and Orbs are shown to be canon in the DMC 3 Manga, as Dante has several in his shop.
Vital Star

The Vital Star is a green star-shaped stone made through alchemy, and heals the user so that they may be at peak performance. These come in three different sizes, Small, Medium, and Large, and these Stars are able to repair any injury, no matter how grievous. Green Orbs also achieve the same.
Devil Star

The Devil Star is a purple star-shaped stone made through alchemy, and restores as well as grants the user Demonic Energy, being both a magic refill as well as a method of granting beings temporary access to a limited variant of the powers Dante possesses. White Orbs also achieve the same.
Gold Orbs

Yellow Orbs and Gold Orbs are magical yellow and gold stones created through a secret alchemical process. They revive the user from the dead, allowing anyone to cheat the inevitable to live a second time without consequence. He can hold 3 of these in Heaven and Hell.
Holy Star

The Holy Star is a blue star-shaped stone filled with divine blessings, and will cure the user of any and all ailments.
Untouchable

The Untouchable is a yellow star-shaped stone that grants the user complete and total invulnerability (well not really) as well as infinite Demonic Energy for a limited amount of time. The period of time is unknown, but is quite brief.
Smell of Fear

The Smell of Fear is a pink vial that grants the user a three-hit shield that protects them from damage. It’s a useful thing to have in a pinch and honestly doesn’t add much to Dante’s arsenal outside of a little extra protection alongside his other defensive measures.
Holy Water

Holy Water is a vial of divinely-blessed water, used by Dante for insta-killing Demons, or highly damaging those that don’t die. These waters do massive damage to all Demons, except those like Dante because of his human heritage blocking his weakness, even if he uses them while in Devil Trigger.
Artifacts
Bangle of Time

An item likely made by Sparda, as it was a memento of Eva, his wife. It can completely stop time, but drains the user’s Demonic Energy to function, yet it’s worth it. It has the power of Za Warudo! It does not affect those with strong enough will.
The Perfect Amulet

The Perfect Amulet is an artifact Dante gains after he defeats Nelo Angelo, who is his brother after having his existence warped by Mundus. It is the unification of two halves, as Eva split this Amulet in two and gave it to her twin sons on their eighth birthday. This was originally the key of the Temen-ni-gru, alongside the Force Edge, that sealed the worlds apart from one another, using the power of Sparda.
However, Dante himself uses this Amulet to freely travel between these two realms. Whilst it’s unclear if the Perfect Amulet became apart of the Devil Sword Sparda due to the cutscene inconsistencies of Devil May Cry 1, Dante is able to use it as a separate object and ability regardless, and he clearly still has it by Devil May Cry 2’s Novel, which takes place significantly after the death of Mundus.
The Amulet

The Amulet is a powerful artifact Dante uses throughout the events of Devil May Cry 2, which allows him to imbue all attacks with fire, ice, or lightning elements, fly, stop time, and increase speed as well as power output. The Amulet functions with “Hearts”, with each Heart granting their own effect:
- Chronoheart: The ability to stop time.
- Healing Heart: Improved regenerative capacity.
- Offense Heart: Amplifies Dante’s damage output by two times.
- Quick Heart: Amplifies Dante’s speed.
- Aerial Heart: Allows the user to fly
- Frost Heart: Applies ice element into attacks
- Flame Heart: Applies fire element into attacks
- Electro Heart: Applies lightning element into attacks
- Aqua Heart: Improves movement capacity in water.
Bayonetta
Umbran Watch

Said to represent the “heart” of an Umbra Witch, an Umbran Watch is what grants Bayonetta and other Umbra Witches their abilities, everlasting life, and maintains the contract with Inferno. It can even preserve a host’s body for a small period of time should they be killed in battle like with Jeanne, allowing for someone else to retrieve their soul from Inferno to revive them, given their soul returns within the given time limit.
However, if the Umbran Watch is sufficiently damaged, it will weaken Bayonetta considerably for a moment. And if the Umbran Watch is destroyed, then she will not only lose her powers, but also her ability to keep Umbran Demons under her control, which can (and has) lead to a fatal end for her. Though thankfully for Cereza, it takes a lot to even damage an Umbran Watch, let alone destroy it, with Singularity Definition being the only foe Bayonetta has fought who’s capable of performing such a feat.
Bayo 1 Weapons
Scarborough Fair

Bayonetta’s default guns in Bayonetta 1, which push her magic to their limits and are durable enough to channel even the Wicked Weaves. The individual names of each handgun are Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme. They can also load lipstick for a good headshot. Its shots are capable of ricocheting off walls.
- Bullet Climax: Bayonetta stands motionless and concentrates on aiming on enemies and objects around her. She can easily hit targets all her sides and above her without changing her foot stance with little difficulty.
- Charge Modifier: Causes Scarborough Fair to fire off 5 shots rapidly in a row, allowing Bayonetta to stack up damage.
Handguns

A couple of basic human guns from Rodin that Bayonetta usually uses prior to obtaining her primary four-set pistols for a game. While she does see them as “cheap toys“, they do manage to get the job done for kicking fresh angel ass… for a bit at least, hence the label she gave them. Unlike Bayonetta’s more iconic weapons, the handguns weren’t made to handle the power of her Bullet Arts, so she has to be careful in using them. Heck, she broke an entire casket worth of handguns in one of the first fights we see her in.
Onyx Roses

Shotguns that contain the souls of fairies. Each shot from these guns contains a curse from the trapped fairies’ souls. With the Charge Modifier, Bayonetta can charge the shots from the Onyx Roses, which results in the rapid firing of several shots in a row. Bullets released from the weapon during a charge attack can bounce off solid substances once or twice.
Shuraba

A living katana containing the heart of the Demon God of War, Asura. The blade is constantly seeking out the blood of its victims, and can even suck out their souls upon defeat. When equipped, Bayonetta’s Wicked Weave punches take on the form of giant spectral blades, and she can charge up her attacks to unleash massive slashes.
Moonlight Massacre is a special attack Bayonetta can perform with Shuraba, where she draws a demonic seal in front of her with the blade and then slashes through it, unleashing a red energy beam at full charge.
Kulshedra

A possessed whip that contains the soul of the ancient serpentine demon Kulshedra. The power of Kulshedra is channeled from its hilt. Bayonetta will generally spin Kulshedra around and thrust it upwards in a spiral, causing damage to everything around her and above her. The long reach of the whip makes it ideal for crowd control.
Durga

A pair of claws that contains the soul of the thousand armed demon Durga. One controls lightning, and the other controls fire. Equipping Durga provides Bayonetta with one major benefit: resistance to the corresponding attribute. For example, a flaming Durga can deal normal damage to flaming enemies that normally cannot be attacked directly, and a flaming Durga on the feet allows Bayonetta to walk through lava fields with ease. These weapons also imbue Bayonetta’s Wicked Weaves with their respective elemental attributes when equipped.
Odette

A pair of bladed skates that contain the soul of the Demon Witch, Odette. Using the power of Odette allows Bayonetta to call upon the power of ice. These skates can freeze enemies upon contact and increase Bayonetta’s mobility by allowing her to skate around a battlefield at high speeds instead of running. Frozen opponents can be thrown through the use of Bayonetta’s Wicked Weaves. Also grants resistance to ice based attacks and environments.
Lt. Col. Kilgore

Containing the soul of the Vietnam War Madman Lt. Col. Kilgore, these launch explosive shells with incredible magical power. Bayonetta can also use them like a pair of tonfas for melee attacks.
Sai Fung

These nunchaku contain the soul of the fastest bird in all of Inferno. Attacks from these weapons are so fast that even a god couldn’t keep up with them. These nunchaku are also able to attack from a distance due to being containing a gun barrel.
Bazillions

Four guns created by an unknown super-civilization. They’re powered by an energy source called Bazillionium, with their shots being able to instantly break down the molecular bonds of their target and possibly even having the power to open a portal to another dimension. Through Rodin’s tinkering, the guns have also gained demonic powers. They can fire both large laser beams and smaller, more compact shots.
Umbran Sisters

Magical weapons used for the Bullet Arts. While resembling flintlock pistols, they’ve been used long before humans invented said weaponry. The Umbra Sisters are designed to fully exploit their user’s magical abilities in both melee and long-range. Bayonetta used these weapons in the past, functioning similarly to her modern-day guns in terms of combat application.
Rodin

Mysterious bracelets once used by the fallen angel and main man himself, Rodin, in holding dominion over a portion of Paradiso. The bracelets adapt themselves to the user’s power and memories, offering unstoppable supernatural power and allowing the bracelets to take the form of many different weapons. These weapons include a double bladed axe, a flaming flail, a hammer, a gun, a harp bow, claws, wheels, chainsaws and a trumpet capable of firing orbs of energy, essentially acting as an entire arsenal packed into just one weapon.
With Rodin, Bayonetta can use Sloth’s swords, which can awaken feelings of gluttony, profanity, doubt, idiocy, rage, and arrogance when cutting the target. It also allows her to summon Enrapture’s staff, which can absorb energy from nearby targets. Rodin can thrust out a shield that emits a shockwave that knocks enemies back, transform into the whip dropped by Resentment, and increase Bayo’s damage output by 20%.
Pillow Talk

This lightsaber is a vessel for Mahavairocana, a demon who seduced women by messing with their dreams. Due to Rodin’s conjuring, the demonic power this weapon summons is incredibly potent at killing angels, used for slicing straight through enemies.
Angel Arms

These weapons originally belonged to the angels of Paradiso (until Bayonetta killed all of them). The weapons range from staves, chain blades that can morph into a bow, a sword, trumpets that shoot energy, and staffs that can steal life energy. Though powerful, these weapons are very temporary, and can only be used a limited number of times before dissipating.
Bayo 2 Weapons
Love is Blue

Bayonetta’s default handguns in Bayonetta 2. Individually, their names are Prelude, Minuet, Toccata and Nocturne. These weapons are comparable to Scarborough Fair in terms of control and power, and are used in a similar way. Alongside their default melee and ranged uses in combat, they can also summon Wicked Weaves and allow Bayonetta to use the Umbran Climax, which uses the user’s stored magic power to greatly enhance their abilities.
Rakshasa

A pair of swords which absorbed the demon god Rakshasa and subsequently were cleansed with Soma. As Rakshasa’s chakra flows into the wielder, they are easy for Bayonetta to use on both hands and legs. Rakshasa transforms Bayonetta’s Wicked Weaves into giant swords.
Alruna

Touching the vines fills the victim’s mind with cursed screams that instantly drives them mad. The whip also has poison laced into it, from the demon it was born from, enhancing its effectiveness. This poison can cause death and affect the very soul.
Kafka

A bow and arrow made from a man who became a hideous insect, very subtle with the reference. Despite being made into a weapon, the man is still alive as the bow’s frame and launches venomous bugs as projectiles. When in use, Bayonetta’s Wicked Weaves become giant dragonflies that fire like poisonous arrows.
Chernobog

A scythe containing souls captured by the god of death Chernobog. Rodin restored this scythe back to its former glory with a new set of souls. Those cut by its three blades have their wounds infected by darkness, and their souls rots and falls to the bottom of Inferno. Moreso, it seals the souls of its victims within itself. Its Wicked Weaves become giant sweeping scythes when in use.
Undine

Two flamethrowers containing the soul of Undine, who committed suicide after a failed relationship. Undine’s jealousy manifests as searing flames, granting Bayonetta the ability to manipulate powerful flames to burn her opponents to ash, while her breath of lament grants the ability to manipulate ice that can freeze any foe in their tracks, allowing these weapons to serve a dual purpose.
Takemikazuchi

A giant hammer forged from the thunder god Takemikazuchi’s divine sword, the Futsuno-mitama. Rodin rebuilt it into a hammer to suit his tastes, with a single swing from it being enough to split the heavens and cause the earth to tremble. While the hammer is extremely heavy, its sheer power allows it to break the guard and armor of any opponent, zap opponents with lightning and stun enemies with shockwaves.
Salamandra

Chainsaws that are made up of every single part of the infernal dragon, Salamandra. Its sharp scales were forged into the weapons’ teeth, and its heart supplies their engines. Even the strongest of armors find themselves getting effortlessly ripped apart by the teeth of these chainsaws. Bayonetta can use these weapons as a pair of high momentum skates… somehow.
Chain Chomp

Bayonetta can use a Chain Chomp from Mario, wielding it like a massive flail with her leg and swinging it around as it bites at whatever it can. By using her Umbran Climax, she can let it loose and explode on whatever it bites onto, even allowing it to grow in size. This beast is so powerful that Rodin can’t even tame it. That implies it’s canon.
Umbran Armor

A heavy-duty, vehicular type of transport designed by the Umbra Witches to be used only in their most desperate of battles, with immense physical strength and in-built machine guns. This armor can be summoned as part of Umbran Climax when the Earrings of Ruin accessory is equipped. It can also be summoned through the Infernal Demon Umbran Clock Tower.
Devil Arms

Weapons dropped by Demons upon defeat with a Torture Attack. The weapons range from dual swords, whips, shotguns, a spinning bladed top of death, etc. Like their angelic counterparts, they dissipate after a short time.
Bayo 3 Weapons
Color My World

A set of guns made by Rodin, these weapons are made for the Umbran combat style “Bullet Arts”. These guns also channel the power of one of Bayonetta summons Madama Butterfly which allows them to have extra power, which increases exponentially with Demon Masquerade (more on that later). The names of the individual guns are Orange Blossom, Yellow Sunshine, Green Grass and Blue Sky. As always, they shoot things good.
G-Pillar

A large Anti-Caliber Anti-Materiel rifle that incorporates tissue from the Demon Gomorrah. While its shape makes it seem like a gun, Bayonetta instead uses it as a giant club, its hits emitting a dark flame that increases its damage.
Ignis Araneae Yo-Yo

A pair of yo-yos that contain clones of the Demon Phantasmaraneae’s energy reactor. They can be used at a range while spinning around blades that will also spew out magma from their cores. They are also used so that Bayonetta can skate around at high speeds.
Dead End Express

Created by the Infernal Demon Wartrain Gouon from his own parts, this half-chainsaw half-train hybrid weapon grinds into enemies with its deadly blades, weighing more than a ton in total. Impossible for a normal human to use, but not Bayo, who applies it like a club. It can also be used as a vehicle through its ability to morph into a miniature train, both for transport and for combos.
Ribbit Libido-BZ55

A microphone stand used by the Demon Baal, which has continually absorbed magic over hundreds of years, and so has gained abilities like converting voices into destructive sound waves and amping the user’s strength and durability based on how they sing. The stand can also be used as a spear to deliver piercing and slashing attacks.
Simoon

A pair of fans that were crafted solely from the feathers of fledglings of the Infernal Demon Malphas. Lighter than paper yet more durable than steel, the fans are used to slash enemies with twin arcs of feathers. They are capable of delivering attacks on par with Malphas’ own, and allow for merging with Malphas through Demon Masquerade.
Tartarus

A pair of steel weapons, made out of the rubble from the fallen Umbran clock tower. Their “gate” can open to unleash many offensive weapons, including gatling guns and spiked arms. Some say that the weapons contain the souls of the Umbra Witches who died when the tower fell, and that the restless spirits behind the gate are the witches after having melded with Inferno’s miasma. Bayonetta uses the spirits of her fallen clan for up-close boxing, manifesting Tartarus’ weaponry from the formed gate for extra punishment.
Abracadabra

A weapon created by Mictlantecuhtli. The hat is Abra and the cane is Cadabra. In tandem, they can create items ranging from doves to bombs to entire vehicles to launch towards their targets. As a result, not even the user can predict what will happen when it’s used, though it’s still a highly effective monster slayer. The portal inside can be used to teleport, along with being able to shoot balls of electricity. When used with Demon Masquerade, the user channels Mictlantecuhtli’s inexplicable power.
Cruel Altea

A weapon formed of Labolas, a type of Infernal Demon made from lost pets, how heartless. The remote attack units on its limbs can be shot at enemies and manipulated at a range, and it can emit absolute zero freeze breath from its mouths that freezes enemies, obviously. Bayonetta can use it for some devastating ice attacks and beams.
Cassiopeia

Essentially an anchor, this weapon was once used against the Demon Kraken before its wielder was defeated and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The weapon itself was embedded in Kraken’s body and so absorbed magic power over centuries. It’s rumored a Heike general in the late Heian period used it against the leader of a race of underwater demons. In combat, the weapon’s sharpened tip is launched out with a chain, allowing Bayonetta to swing it at enemies at a range.
Nintendo Costume Weapons
Bayonetta is apparently a closet Nintendo fan and enjoys cosplaying as various Nintendo heroes in her spare time.
Master Sword

The mythical blade wielded by the heroes of Hyrule, those who possess the Spirit of the Hero and Triforce of Courage, to banish great evil. Its power is legendary, and the blade itself can cut down the most powerful of monsters with relative ease.
The Master Sword can only be wielded when Bayonetta is wearing the Hero of Hyrule costume and Shuraba is equipped as the weapon in her hands. She will use it as she wielded Shuraba in the first game, sharing its Wicked Weaves and Charge Modifier.
Arwing Guns

Based on the blueprints of a space fighter obtained by Rodin, this device was created by combining magic, science and technology, and does not contain the souls of demons or gods. As a result, the guns are difficult to manage, and need a special suit to display their true power. Using these guns, Bayonetta can fire off volleys of laser blasts, which can be charged up for extra damage.
Galactic Bounty Hunter Costume

The advanced power suit of a female bounty hunter with built-in arm cannons, built to let the wearer survive hostile alien environments. With its cannons, Bayonetta can fire off powerful charge shots, and can even turn into the iconic Morph Ball.
Mushroom Kingdom Princess Costume

Coming in both Peach and Daisy variants, these costumes, when worn, allow Bayonetta to summon the great turtle king himself through her Wicked Weaves, replacing her usual attacks.
Accessories
Bayo 1 Accessories
Pulley’s Butterfly

A treasure made by the witch Turnadot, using the wearer’s magic energy to give divine protection. Whoever wears the Bracelet will create butterflies that can take damage the user would originally take.
Infernal Communicator

Bayonetta can use this item to make a temporary contract with the Little Devils, an infamous band of demon youth, and can summon them in battle to help her attack enemies.
Star of Dinéta

This artifact was made by the witch Yenaldooshi. When Bayonetta puts it on, she can taunt enemies to heal some of her health.
Gaze of Despair

A treasure that contains the soul of Musso Koroni, who was the goddess of discord. Wearing this treasure is said to be an affront to other worlds and otherworldly invaders. Once this is put on, any nearby enemies will go into a berserker state, making them harder to fight.
Selene’s Light

This accessory was made by the Egyptian witch, Cleopatra, and to help those who have trouble with Witch Time. Whoever wears them will trigger Witch Time automatically anytime they are hit by an attack, albeit at the cost of some magical power.
Evil Harvest Rosary

A set of beads made by the witch Akko (no relation), that, when the person wearing it dodges, will launch a magical counter-strike against the attacker, with the potency of this counter-attack increasing the more closely an attack is dodged. A downside of it is that it drains emotional strength and strips Witch Time from the user, not allowing them to trigger it.
Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa

A charm made by the witch Yaksi and blessed by the Indian god Shiva. When they are worn, they are able to repel any attack that is thrown at the user.
Eternal Testimony

This treasured article, crafted by the ancient witch queen Aizen, was worn by elder Umbra Witches, both powerful and a symbol of status. When Bayonetta wears this bracelet, it will replenish two bars of her magical gauge.
Bracelet of Time

Bracelets made by the witch Eva, with whoever wears them becoming the master of witchcraft. When Bayonetta wears them, she can automatically trigger Witch Time whenever she wants.
Climax Brace

This item has no exact origin, but is said to have come from a different dimension. When Bayonetta wears it, she will gain unlimited magical power, which allows her to use her many Torture Attacks and Umbran Climax without having to recharge. Has the power of the universe itself.
Immortal Marionette

This charm was made by the witch Mary, who was feared for her fighting proficiency and ruthless tactics. When Bayonetta wears it, she will become a master fighter, as if she were a marionette being controlled by Mary directly, allowing her to execute combos automatically.
Sergey’s Lover

Made by the Russian witch Matryona to face multiple foes at once, Bayonetta can use these braces to make two images of Madama Butterfly that will mirror all the moves Bayonetta performs.
Bayo 2 Accessories
Mallet of Rewards

Made by the lone performer and witch Okuni, when Bayonetta wears these she will get extra rings and items from the enemies she has defeated.
Earrings of Ruin

These earrings were given to the front-line Umbra Witches by the clan’s elder. When these are worn with at least one magic gauge full, Bayonetta can summon the Umbran Armor.
Climax Brace 2

This mysterious item allows Bayonetta to increase the damage she deals with Umbran Climax, though with the downside that Bayonetta takes more damage when in Umbran Climax.
Bayo 3 Accessories
Earring of Time

Ragewolf Fang

Nucleus of Talos

Hymn of Durga

Conqueror’s Reins

Climax Earring

Consumables/Miscellaneous
Lollipops
Bayonetta can carry 99 of the following consumables on her person each.
Green Herb Lollipop

A herb shaped Lollipop that heals Bayonetta. The mega version of it heals her twice as much.
Purple Magic Lollipop

Bloody Rose Lollipop

Yellow Moon Lollipop

Magic Flute

Red Hot Shot

Midas’s Testament

A bell that, when Bayonetta rings it, will cause all enemies nearby to glow and bleed out more rings for Bayonetta to collect. Said to have been blessed by King Midas himself.
Witch Heart

A stone shaped heart containing the vitality of a witch who was pulled into Inferno, that Bayonetta can collect to increase her health. With a Blue Witch Heart, she can increase her health three times over.
Moon Pearl

A moon-shaped orb that will increase Bayonetta magic gauge using the power of the moon. With the Golden Moon Pearl, if Bayonetta runs out of magic, her magic gauge will automatically refill by two points normally, and four points when combined with the Eternal Testimony accessory.
Abilities
Dante
Demonic Heritage/Physiology

Due to being born half-Demon, Dante inherited superhuman strength, speed, and tenacity. Dante, Vergil and Nero, alongside their Hybrid physiology, have a special lineage of demonic power that is exclusive to them, which comes from the Demon Lord Sparda. This thanks to them having the same blood and soul as him.
Dante gains a plethora of abilities thanks to his heritage, being a Son of Sparda. Because the Legendary Dark Knight himself was a cut above all other Demons in the series, as a consequence, Dante and Vergil are more powerful than any other conceivable Hybrid in Devil May Cry. He has immense stamina, as Dante recovers from stamina use quickly, and Devil Trigger replenishes it. He fought Urizen for several hours in their first clash (though Urizen held back), and repeatedly fought Vergil for 39 days straight after cutting down the Qliphoth (though they rested in between fights) whilst trapped in the Underworld in the ending of Devil May Cry 5. Dante can breathe in space and underwater, and can walk on water.
Furthermore, all Demons, including Dante, gain power from blood. Human blood grants Demons a boost in power. This is also how Urizen amplified his powers, and why he wanted the fruit of the Qliphoth, which is made of Human Blood. Dante was granted power by the Qliphoth by being given human blood. As such, it might be possible that wounds Dante takes that cause his body to produce more blood (considering he is half human) might actually be making him stronger. This makes sense, as blood even for fodder Demons is noted to increase their power “many times over”.
Demonic Energy

Dante’s physical power comes from his Magic/Demonic power. Every Demonic power, physical or magical, shares the same source of energy, Demonic Energy. The loss and increase of DE directly correlates to Dante’s power, speed, and durability. Here we see how his reflexes, his agility and his speed are becoming slower and sloppier as he grows weaker by the second when he is being stripped of his Demonic Power, forcing him to use his guns as they are the only ones that don’t run on his Demonic Energy. Concurrently, Dante’s Demonic Energy restores itself at a rapid rate. A strong human spirit can amplify Demonic Power.
Demonic Power is often used to boost someone’s attributes, an example of this is when Gilver, using the nexus, starts making the Demon World energy flood into the Human World, having said energy close to him boosts his power and defense to the point Dante’s attacks stopped working. Dante can also channel his Demonic Energy into his weapons to further enhance them to perform devastating attacks as seen in the case of Rebellion, and Dante can even amplify his firearms, like his signature dual handguns, Ebony and Ivory, to boast a lot more firepower and better accuracy.
Dante can even weaponize this energy for various applications:
- Shooting explosive energy out of his sword
- Creating platforms that allow him to double jump or dash forward, this sometimes requires a specific weapon.
- To charge his pistols, shotguns, and other weapons with his own demonic powers
- Putting energy into vehicles to make them go faster
- Destroying walls and shaking a building just by powering up
Lastly, Devil Trigger completely revitalizes the user and boosts all stats, via more demonic energy.
Regeneration

Dante possesses an incredibly potent healing factor. Even before awakening his full Demonic Power, he could regenerate from multiple impalements and gunshots (hundreds at once and a headshot in one occurrence). He can walk off removing a large sword from his chest. His healing potential is on par with his brother, who regenerated from being sliced clean in half before his body could fall apart. Dante also has solid pain tolerance, being able to casually walk around, put on a song, eat pizza and fight with scythes stabbed all over his body (refer to resistances for more examples of pain tolerance).
Notably though, Dante used to have one weakness in the form of his heart, which if damaged sufficiently could incapacitate or hypothetically kill him. While fatal to him in his younger years, Dante has since improved the application of his healing to his heart. Impalement through the heart only knocked Dante out when taken off guard by Sid (and once the blade was lifted, he recovered instantly), and his healing capabilities have only skyrocketed since. Dante’s Devil Trigger additionally enhances his regenerative potential.
His regeneration is on par if not superior to Nero, who can regenerate entire limbs, and was able to heal from having his body melted by the Savior in the DMC4 Novel (The Savior is made of melted down physical and spiritual matter, which is what it was causing Nero to suffer before he healed). Specifically, what occurred was Nero was absorbed by the Savior to be melted down like the demons that make it, physically and spiritually. Nero loses his entire body and his sense of being. Dante calls out to Nero from outside, which makes him realize he still exists and he starts reforming his body from his memories alone. Dante sends Yamato into The Savior, which separates Nero’s essence from it via its ability to cut off man from Demon. Yamato assists Nero in healing the final bits of his body, and a guide makes it clear Nero only regenerated his body (which was mist) and not his actual soul, which Dante sensed still existed right before.
The actual limit to this healing is explored with Dante’s brother, Vergil. After being caught by Mundus, the Demonic Emperor forced Vergil into an artificial soldier body, creating Nelo Angelo. Upon Nelo’s defeat, Vergil’s body and soul seemingly explode, with guides confirming Vergil was completely destroyed. Despite this, years later Vergil was able to return from the dead in DMC5, though it left him in a near death state. Vergil’s long timeframe is due the removal of his demonic Name by Mundus, and the placement of another name on him that being Nelo Angelo, and his loss of will and resolve after this occurred.
Dante’s regeneration likewise would be on the same tier, and be tied to his resolve and stamina. The regeneration and statistics of Demonic Hybrids are hard tied to stamina and can be weakened/lowered for a time until the Hybrid regains said stamina. Dante makes a note in 4’s novel that he would rather avoid being turned to ash, which makes sense since repeated regeneration from this would drain him.
Note: Nero being unable to regenerate his arm in 5 is not a contradiction to the above. Vergil notably steals his Demonic Power, leaving Nero unable to summon his prior Devil Trigger. Vergil is even shown manifesting the removed arm in his taunts.
Control Over Names/Aspects

Demon Names are stated to be a fundamental part of their existence which embodies not only a Demon’s power, but their very form. Some examples are Frosts, Nightmare (generates nightmares), Phantom, and Plasma (literal embodiments of electricity).
Speaking of, it’s shown that Dante and Vergil have access to the ability of removing and giving names through Sparda’s power, with Sparda himself using it long ago. Sparda had removed the names from seven Demons, which left them powerless. Upon receiving a name, the Demons regain form. Vergil himself grants a Name to Sloth and the other seven sins to undo the first set of Sparda’s seals on Temen-ni-gru (it is implied Dante would have been able to do this as well). Dante and Vergil are explicitly stated to have the same powers, as they also have the same soul.
Dante himself used this power to survive as a teen by renaming himself Tony Redgrave, after Rebellion (which is imbued with Sparda’s power), instructed him to, but he later took his true Name once more. As seen there, it also affected his memory, and his power. Upon taking his true Name, his portion of Sparda’s power was suppressed no longer. As such, although he doesn’t use it often, it is certainly another impressive ability he has.
Note: Some Demons can function without a Name, though the ones that can are stated to be able to do so due to their inherent skills. Nobodies specifically wear magic masks that empower them in order to overcome a lack of a name.
Supernatural Senses

A Son of Sparda’s senses are also vastly more capable than an ordinary human, allowing Dante to see spirits leave possessed bodies, see the souls a Hell Greed Summons and sense aura and danger from his surroundings. Dante can smell the scent of blood and detect the dark aura which radiates from it, pick up the scent of Demons from far distances, see at night, and sense killing intent approaching. He can even detect things like power levels, magic and magical energy, and surges of “evil”. Dante also once sensed an incoming phone call before it happened (bit of a gag).
His brother Vergil has been able to sense Lady entering the Temen-ni-gru while in meditation, and was able to see through illusions with his senses. Dante has also been able to notice illusions.
Supernatural Willpower

The willpower of Sparda’s children is beyond being defined as “normal”. Vergil was shown to resist mind control and enslavement from Mundus for 9 years, despite his Name being literally changed by the demon. Vergil only gave in when shown his mother’s pendant. Dante himself is capable of wielding the Sword of Sparda, which is noted to require great willpower to do so. Both Dante and Vergil were able to wield the sword’s prior form, the Force Edge, which deformed Arkham into a blob because he lacked the necessary willpower.
Soul Interaction

Of course, what’s a Demon Hunter without the ability to interact with Demons? Dante’s capable of hurting the intangible type Demons of the Underworld, and can kill a Demon possessing a woman without harming the host, separating them in the process. Vergil’s human aspect V has also shown it is possible to hold souls, as he held the soul core of Nightmare in order to return it.
Sealing

Sparda and his family have shown skill in the ability of creating seals. This allows them to also seal away those who they normally can’t defeat, such as when Sparda sealed Mundus and Argosax. Sparda placed a seal on the realms, locking Mundus in a subsection of the Demon World and removing his powers, forcing Mundus to slowly have to regain them after 2000 years.
Dante’s ammo has spirits sealed inside, and he himself sealed Mundus after he returned, with the Son of Sparda being stated to have sealing power beyond Sparda himself. However these mainly work by closing portals already open to the Demon World, like when Dante closed Belphefor’s portal.
Adaptation

Perhaps Dante’s most powerful ability is his continual evolutionary capacity. As a teen, Dante was capable of improving his skills extremely fast in combat, even against demons that have techniques that allow them to perceive patterns far beyond their opponent’s abilities, and against the Black Knights, with said opponents being made of combat data from Vergil, Sparda, and Dante.
Dante is also shown to adapt to resist enemy abilities. He was capable of adapting when his strength was being reduced when he was close to the nexus and was barely able to hold Rebellion. Dante mentions that just holding his sword seemed to sap his strength, and then, after some time passed, he was capable of completely restoring his lost strength (likely due to his humanity reacting poorly to the Nexus). Devil Trigger will also automatically activate to save Dante, such as in the following examples. Dante was able to adapt by transforming instinctively to fight off Alice when she was sucking his life force, and was capable of instinctively adapting by semi-transforming to fight off a Sin when he was stripping away his blood.
Interestingly, Vergil once also speed-learned how to read a multitude of ancient texts put together in a way that resembles “concepts that can not be expressed in words alone”, that could only be learned from this book, in a few hours, when it took Arkham years to decode.
Fear Aura &
Empowerment

All Demons, including Dante, gain power from Fear. Even further, misery and despair vastly amplify a Demon’s power, granting them an “aura of decay.” Despair itself can increase their power, but often unfair for any entity that doesn’t have familiarity with the Demon World, the presence of Demons innately causes this despair. The Demon World itself causes the same effects of madness, fear, and despair. This effect of dread can immobilize Humans exposed to it, if cast by a powerful enough Demon (like Void Mundus, who with just his laugh, made Beryl fall into despair and fear). These auras are repeatedly given moments and statements to exist. In one case, it is even given explicit mention that the source is a Demon. This insanity is so potent it makes humans tear out and eat their own eyes.
It’s also stated by Gilver, Dante, and the Beastheads that despair is a human emotion Demons cannot feel. However, Dante himself is able instill fear into these same Demons, and in the panels above is shown to affect V. It should be noted, however, Dante only induces this aura when he is extremely angry. The main triggers seen so far have been V mentioning Vergil’s name or Chen making a mockery of Sparda’s name, and Nell Goldstein’s death.
Styles

Styles are methods of combat Dante uses in game to continually change how he operates both defensively and offensively. They can grant a multitude of abilities or functions, as well as dynamically change how weapons are utilized in general, granting extra options for Dante in the midst of death defying demonic battles. Whilst Dante has never displayed Doppelganger or Quicksilver after the events of Devil May Cry 3, he should have access to it.
It should also be noted that “Styles” aren’t something Dante has to actively switch through in lore, and instead are made “Switchable” for complexity in combat in gameplay. Normally, Dante simply has access to all his powers at once at any given time, so for all intents and purposes he’ll have that capacity in this blog.
Trickster

Effectively Dante’s ‘high-speed’ style, Trickster is focused on fast and evasive movements. Dante has developed a variety of skills and abilities relating to Trickster, having even developed the ability to create mid-air platforms of Demonic Energy to kick off of simply to enhance his movements, or gain aerial evasion capacity. While its main focus is getting out of harm’s way, it allows Dante to place himself into an ideal position to attack his enemy. With moves such as ‘Air Trick,’ Dante has been shown to be able to move so fast it’s pretty much akin to “instantaneous movement,” or teleportation. Dante has developed the Trickster style intensely and it is one of his preferred methods of combat due to its utility.
Swordmaster

Unlike the focus of speed which comes from Trickster, Swordmaster style is one of Dante’s more offensive approaches to combat. Dante can essentially utilize his weapons to their fullest while this style is active, and is capable of branching out with the elemental capabilities of his Devil Arms if those are applicable. Swordmaster is more like a basic template rather than a style, and has the one of the most variety out of Dante’s styles simply due to its specified workings.
Gunslinger

Much like the Swordmaster Style, Gunslinger doesn’t exactly have a specified moveset for it to work. It doesn’t give Dante any extra capabilities and its main focus is on the use and maximization of his firearms. It is definitely favored in Dante’s combat, likely due to his attachment to Ebony and Ivory.
Royalguard

Perhaps Dante’s most irritating and difficult to deal with style is Royalguard, as you can likely expect, its focus is on defense. It is a mostly stationary style focusing on counters, but as you can likely tell it’s not as simple as blocking an attack. While being attacked, Dante creates a sort of force-field that makes him invulnerable, and whilst doing so can effectively build up energy from his opponent’s attempts to harm him to use for himself by stockpiling “Rage.” He can then proceed to release that energy out himself to do massive damage.
Royalguard has also allowed Dante the ability to withstand his enemies’ attacks with pretty much no difficulty, such as Agnus, who he admits was going to hurt him, and has used it to block Judgement Cut. In developing this style, Dante has also learnt how to utilize it midair. Even more impressive are its secondary uses, such as the move the Ultimate, which creates a barrier that, when damaged, restores his health. Or the almighty Dreadnaught, a state that grants Dante invulnerability. In the Deadly Fortune novel, it allowed Dante to block a laser that was “certainly going to reduce him to ash” from the Savior with no trouble.
Quicksilver

With Quicksilver, Dante can manipulate time, gaining this power from Geryon, who got this power from inhaling the miasma of the Demon World. He can slow down time to allow him to land high-speed attacks upon his enemies. It is also noted to increase his perceptions. Quicksilver has the minor caveat of consuming Demonic Energy per use, but Dante has such a vast amount of it that it doesn’t really matter.
Doppelganger

A pretty simple style as you can likely tell by the name. Doppelganger focuses on Dante creating a shadow double of himself. This Doppelganger can use all of Dante’s weapons, utilize his DT, and virtually act as an entire second variant of himself with all his capacity, capable of weapon swapping and likely capable of using all of his favorite Styles. Like Quicksilver, this costs Demonic Energy, but as before, his pool is immense, so this drawback isn’t a large deal.
Dark Slayer

Dante uses the Yamato to perform Vergil’s Style, the Dark Slayer Style. Based on high speed movement and attacking, it mainly focuses on utilizing Yamato’s many benefits and combining it with Dante’s overall attack method. This includes things like the Judgment Cut, attacking in Iaido, and all of Vergil’s other known actions. This was used by Dante in the midst of the events of Devil May Cry 4. He also has a unique move called Slash Dimension, where he cuts through dimensional barriers to attack at a distance with what appear to be beams of light.
Resistances

As a Demon Hybrid, Dante has shown several resistances. Listed below are confirmed examples:
- Hellfire and Extreme Temperatures: As a child, Vergil was unaffected by his burning house. Nero could also resist heat from Berial, the King of Fire Hell, which Dante himself also resists. These same flames melted Scarecrows. Dante can resist Ifrit’s heat, even when it’s trying to kill him, which can melt Frosts, who use (and are) below-Absolute Zero temperatures and are impervious to the Demon World’s Volcanic Fire.
- Electricity: Can withstand countless volts of electricity without any trouble
- Extreme Pain Tolerance and Paralysis Inducement: Dante and Vergil have showings of supporting extreme levels of pain throughout their lives, like when Dante as a teen, despite being in extreme pain, moved by sheer willpower. Dante was unaffected by the Demon World’s nexus, which can temporarily paralyze demons after refreshing their Demonic Powers. Dante and Vergil have continuously battled each other since they were kids and they show many times that they have very high pain tolerance. As a child, Vergil fought back a horde of demons while being impaled in multiple parts of his body. Nero was able to keep fighting Urizen, ignoring the pain despite the many hits that he had taken. Dante also can fight back against the Soul Eater, which paralyzes its prey as it eats the Soul.
- Blood Absorption: Simply transforming was able to stop his body from having its blood stripped away. Can fight off Queen Empusa from sucking off blood.
- Holy Manipulation/Weapons: Despite his Demonic Heritage, he is unaffected by Holy items. Holy Water fails, Holy spears fail, and he wasn’t affected by Alan’s Tear which reacts to Demonic Power, with it burning the hands of Demons at a touch and killing Demons in its presence.
- Below Absolute Zero: Can survive attacks from Frosts, who attack at that temperature.
- Sound Attacks: Dante was unaffected by the sonic based attacks of Elena, as well as the Beastheads’ loud roar, while Beryl was deafened by it.
- Life Force Absorption: His Devil Trigger’s activation was able to stop Alice from doing this, which is mirrored in Devil May Cry 3.
- Poison and Acid: Dante has survived the Demon Monkey’s acidic poisonous blood & Beezlebub’s poison
- Possession and Body Puppetry: Able to resist the possession attempts of the Infestant and Ducas’ attempt to possess him, claiming it wouldn’t have worked even when he was a child. He can also break out of the Marionette’s powers, which they use to string people up like puppets.
- Extrasensory Perception: With the Devil Sword Sparda, as it can cloak his presence from other Demons.
- Sleep Manipulation, Disease Manipulation and Absorption: The Demon World is infecting those who come near with an “unearthly illness”, While he was affected by this as a teen, during the time he was weakened by not having his true Name, he soon was no longer hampered by this. Upon having his true Name isn’t affected at all, something that is explicitly noted. These same symptoms are noted for Beryl in Vol.2, and Dante is not affected.
- Space-Time Manipulation: Able to survive being hit by Yamato’s space-time cutting attacks, like the Judgment Cut
- Petrification/Transmutation: Dante was unaffected by impalement from the Qliphoth Roots, which is noted to petrify people and turn them into pollen for the tree.
- BFR: While Dante is indeed vulnerable to BFR, he has methods to counter it. One option is with Yamato/Fragment, as it can create portals and allow travel across the realms, even with only a shard or fragment of it. Its portals even work despite the fact Sparda sealed off the realms with his power, preventing demons from traveling between the realms. As such, Dante can escape dimensional or location-based BFR.
- Soul Manipulation: He can survive attacks from the Soul Eater, which feasts on the Soul.
- Clairvoyance, Retrocognition and Precognition: Dante is able to catch Chen off guard, whose foresight capacity was described as something that will fulfill his desires, infinite knowledge that grants him knowledge over the universe, “beyond” all dimensions and time, from beginning to the end of history, which is able to also watch the likes of Sparda and Mundus.
- Mind Manipulation and Memory Manipulation: Dante scales to Vergil, who was able to resist Mundus changing his Name and corrupting him whilst wiping his Memories and Mind to control his Body, alongside restraining his powers. Mundus’ chains could suppress Nightmare’s power, with it being stated Vergil’s resistance only faltered when given back his half of the Perfect Amulet.
He should also scale to Nero, who wasn’t affected by Malphas’ stones, which caught V and put him in an illusionary world based on past enemies. Vergil was able to see through and break the illusion of a Demon himself. Dante sees through the illusionary parts of Mallet Island, and while his weakest iteration was affected at first, eventually became immune to the illusions of the Demon World that fooled even his superhuman senses. He is no longer affected by it in any of the other games or material, like in Devil May Cry 2, where the Demon World is stated to warp the minds of men.
Bayonetta
Umbra Witch Physiology

Witches and Sages possess immense physical strength, and are attuned to their corresponding side, dark and light. Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages are given Umbran/Lumen Watches from a very young age, preventing them from physically aging beyond their prime, which is stated to keep Witches and Sages alive for eternities by Rodin. Witches can return from otherwise fatal attacks, such as having their soul forcefully separated from their body, as long as their Umbran “Heart” remains intact.
Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages are able to see into and interact with the parallel world of Purgatorio. Residents of Purgatorio are also intangible to those within the Human Realm and vice versa. However, Witches and Sages, along with their infernal and heavenly allies ignore these properties, being able to see and interact with either realm, regardless of which they’re currently residing in. Witches and Sages are capable of acting in space and water without the need to breathe.
Magic

By harnessing Spirit Energy, Umbran Witches can use magic to combat their foes. Their energy can be used to coat themselves in an aura, create blades or blasts of energy, construct force fields or barriers, empower technology and vehicles, and even amplify their demons. She can also create constructs that can slice enemies in half. Umbran Witches can gain more energy from moonlight, which allows them to keep using magic indefinitely under the moon. Moonlight has been compared directly to magic fountains of Thule.
Bullet Arts

Bullet Arts is the fighting style exhibited by the Umbra Witches with the combination of both melee attacks and gunfire. Below are the techniques of the art Bayonetta has shown to know:
- After Burner Kick: An aerial technique in which Bayonetta flies toward an opponent and delivers a flaming kick for extra damage.
- Witch Twist: An aerial attack that is designed to launch small or staggered enemies airborne. Bayonetta drops to her knees and spins on the ground before suddenly twisting and launching herself skyward. She can also fire her guns into the air while twisting.
- Tetsuzanko: A technique with any hand-mounted weapon that allows Bayonetta to instantly perform a forward slam attack that knocks enemies up and away from her.
- Heel Stomp: Tetsuzanko’s sister technique that Bayonetta can use with any weapons equipped on her feet.
- Stiletto: A technique used for simultaneously closing the distance between Bayonetta and her target whilst also attacking them, with varying effects depending on the weapons she is holding in her hands.
- Heel Slide: A technique similar to Stiletto used for simultaneously closing distance between Bayonetta and her target whilst also attacking them by using the weapon equipped to her feet. In comparison to Stiletto, Heel Slide is faster, does much more damage on average and goes a lot farther. Unlike Stiletto however, it cannot be executed in mid-air.
Purgatorio Teleportation
& BFR

Witches and Sages are able to create portals through various ways and for many uses. Portals can be created to travel freely in and out of Purgatorio, to summon Infernal Demons or Angels of Paradiso, or to create time traveling portals in certain locations through the use of their Umbran/Lumen Watches.
Beings in this parallel dimension cannot be seen by those in the universe without eyewear specifically tailored to revealing Purgatorio. The inhabitants of the human world and Purgatorio cannot interact with each other, although beings in Purgatorio can interact with and destroy inanimate objects.
As part of their association with the Infernal Demons, witches are capable of summoning a portal of demonic hands to send defeated enemies who are still at least partially intact into Inferno. Bayonetta can summon the arms of Inferno whenever she wants.
Telepathy

Lumen Sages and Umbra Witches are able to use telepathy to send direct messages they would not be able to send otherwise. Examples of this include Bayonetta sending telepathic messages to Luka when he could not hear her from Purgatorio, or Balder’s use of telepathy to send a message to Bayonetta upon her arrival in Vigrid and on several other occasions throughout her journey. Bayonetta was also able to hear Viola with this, while Viola was in another universe.
Telekinesis

Bayonetta, Balder, and Jeanne have shown the ability to move objects with TK. This can be used to effortlessly throw massive objects or for something as simple as merely redirecting a bullet. Bayonetta once used this to move a boat away from enemy fire.
Out-of-Body Technique

Infernal Kiss/Heat Shot

Bayonetta can break angelic and demonic barriers by using specialized projectiles. These “kiss” attacks can break millions of angelic barriers at once, and she can use her bullets to destroy demonic barriers and seals.
Witch Walk

A magical ability that allows Bayonetta to defy gravity and walk on walls, as long as they are in the moonlight of a full moon. Despite being shown that a full moon is needed for Witch Walk, sufficiently powerful witches have shown to be capable of walking on abnormal surfaces without the presence of a full moon on occasion.
Witch Time

Witch Time is an ability which increases the user’s speed and perception via concentration. It is a form of Temporal Control, which is a “technique that sharpens all of the five senses, and enables one to boost their physical abilities.” Temporal Control is the ability to move freely in that moment, see into the flow of time and push one’s body to its absolute limit.
Beyond enhancing the user, Witch Time controls time itself, which allows Bayonetta to slow down time around her to a near stop, additionally being able to greatly increase their speed in the process. This technique is capable of lasting for entire fights and can be stacked on top of itself several times. The item known as Selene’s Light helps support this, as it is capable of manipulating time. This item activates Witch Time on the caster when attacked, which means it’s referring to Witch Time as a time manipulation ability. With this, Bayonetta formed an ice spear with her bare hands, after activating Witch Time. To do this Bayonetta had to slow down the water molecules, in order to form them into solid ice.
When using the Umbral Clock Tower’s Witch Time, Bayonetta literally says “Time is in your hands”. In Bayo 1, Gracious and Glorious were given a divine power to resist WT to nigh-immunity. Angels have been shown to be able to communicate in Witch Time, or even just break out of it. More stacks of Witch Time will then in turn lock them down. At its max potency, it can affect the God of Chaos, Aesir, who controls space and time and even brings the movement of his dimension to a crawl.
Beast Within

Through a technique known as Beast Within, Sages and Witches are capable of shapeshifting into various animals, granting them additional uses like assisting in dodging, gaining flight, faster travel movement, or underwater breathing and gliding. This allows Bayonetta to take on the physical form of various animals for increased land or aerial mobility.
Her most common form is that of a panther, which increases her running speed and allows her to make longer jumps. She can also become a crow which allows her to fly for short periods of time unencumbered. With her bat-form she can manifest an instant before getting hit by an attack allowing Bayonetta to get out of the way of an attack. As a snake, she can swim through underwater environments with ease.
Wings of Malphas &
Wings of Madama Butterfly

Bayonetta can summon the wings of the Infernal Demon, Malphas over her back to allow herself to fly freely through the air. She can also summon the wings of Madama over her back to give herself a short extra boost in jump height and gliding abilities.
Wicked Weaves &
Hair Manipulation

Umbra Witches are able to greatly manipulate their hair to serve a wide array of uses. An Umbra Witch’s hair can be used as a medium for summoning demons, a quick form of clothing that can restrain an enemy.
Bayonetta’s hair is magical in nature and comprises the clothing that she wears into fights. Using her hair as a conduit Bayonetta can summon the limbs and appendages of various Infernal Demons (typically Madama Butterfly) to be used as powerful physical strikes on nearby opponents, which is often punches or kicks form from Madama Butterfly’s body.
Torture Attacks

Through the use of Umbran magic, Bayonetta is able to summon a variety of different torture devices that can be used as finishing attacks against opponents. These attacks range from an iron maiden, decapitation by guillotine, placing them into a grinder, burning them, hanging them, crushing them to death, and pulling out a chainsaw to bisect foes. You can view them all here: Bayo 1, Bayo 2, Bayo 3.
Demon Slave

An ancient art thought to be lost for good, the Demon Slave technique allows Bayonetta to fully control her summons, commanding them and controlling their movements. With it she can empower demons or force disobedient demons to fight for her. Bayonetta can equip three different Infernal Demons to use as conduits for Demon Slave at one time and can swap between them freely. If controlled demons take too much damage, they may go on a rampage and attack Bayonetta.
Regeneration

While Bayonetta typically relies on evading deadly hits from enemies, she is capable of healing off heavy wounds should she have a brief moment of respite to do so. Bayonetta can restore her heart after ripping out or heal from full torso impalement. She can also heal from being flattened and can restore her hair if it’s destroyed. An interesting note is that a Q&A in the Bayonetta 1 Climax Bible Guide suggests that game overs are actually canon to the series, and that Bayo is resurrected whenever she runs out of power by a ritualistic spell cast by the elders of the witches.
She should also scale to Jeanne, who briefly was able to manifest a body from her soul after it was released from Singularity. After the alternate Bayonetta’s souls are freed, they materialize pseudo-bodies and start fighting. Bayonetta (1 & 2) were able to come back for a bit after being erased beforehand by Singularity. Also, even after having her soul ripped from her body when Gomorrah killed her, she was able to regenerate a new body, albeit only for a brief period before she was taken to Inferno.
Left Eye of The World

Also known as the Left Eye of Darkness, this special eye serves as one half of the Eyes of the World that Aesir split between the Umbran Witches and Lumen Sages. The eyes have the ability to see many things, be it all existences and all happenings across the Earth or the present, past, and future of whomever they gazed upon. In the hands of Aesir, the Eyes created the concepts of free will and more for mankind. While Bayonetta no longer has the Left Eye, she had it in two different iterations, so it will be included.
Infernal Demon Pact
& Summons

One of the most notable abilities of the Umbra and the Lumen is their capability to summon Infernal Demons or Angels of Paradiso respectively to aid them in battle. These summons can be used in a variety of ways such as summoning limbs of demons or angels to create larger attacks, using their limbs to gain more versatility such as summoning wings, summoning a demon or angel fully to help finish off an enemy, or simply to directly assist in battle themselves. Even the youngest of Witches are capable of summoning smaller demons to assist them. Despite this, summons are capable of going uncontrolled if a Witch or Sage is inexperienced or is facing outside interference.
Bayonetta has a strong bond with Madama Butterfly, and tends to summon her and Gomorrah the most. In case any of her summons disobey, she can use Demon Slave to put them in line, or empower them. If her Umbran Clock is destroyed, demons like Gamorrah will try and take her soul, as per their contract. If her summons are killed, they can simply re-manifest later on.
Summons List
Madama Butterfly

The Mistress of Atrocity, Madama Butterfly. Taking the form of a woman who heralded from the Chaos, she is a demon of renown, known for her cruelty and unyielding strength. She’s capable of paralysis and charming enemies. She is Bayonetta’s main contract and the source of several of her abilities. She can use Witch Time, and can casually destroy meteors.
Empowered Butterfly

An empowered Madama Butterfly. The Mistress of Atrocity was brutal before, but now she’s truly something to fear. Stronger than before and sporting red skin, she’s ready to destroy and ruthlessly torment all that would stand in her path.
Gomorrah

One of Bayonetta’s go-to summons, the Devourer of the Divine is used if she needs to dish out a lot of destructive damage, with Gomorrah probably being her second most-used demon right behind Madama Butterfly. Effectively a kaiju, Gomorrah can cause tons of damage with its claws, even being able to rip souls from bodies with a single claw strike, and unleash an incredibly devastating fire breath. Angels and demons alike are nothing but divine dragon food to it. It’s also a master at boat surfing!
However, it’s also a bit of a loose cannon. If Bayonetta can’t keep it under control, Gomorrah is very likely to go on a rampage, and both enemies, allies, and Bayonetta herself are all in danger of a one-way ticket to Inferno courtesy of this dragon’s bare claws. Fortunately, the Demon Slave technique in Bayonetta 3 allows her to directly control it, making it unlikely to turn on her, so long as she remains in fighting condition.
Malphas

A bird-like summon, the Harbinger of Finality known as Malphas can use its wings and talons to brutalize its enemies. It also can manipulate the wind to create miniature tornados and grant Bayonetta the power of flight.
Hekatoncheir

The Shatterer of the Earth, it is an Infernal Demon that can “pulverize mountains” and can cause earthquakes that last for days. It’s primarily used by Bayonetta to rip and tear into her enemies with its six arms.
Scolopendra

The Eradicator of Paradise, it is rumored to be multiple kilometers long, and primarily attacks via constricting its prey with its overwhelming strength and solid body.
Phantasmaraneae

A spider-like demon deep within Inferno, The Twister of Flame, Phantasmaraneae, can utilize said spider qualities to create webs that can bind or pull enemies, as well as summon its children. It can also utilize flame-based attacks and traverse flame-based environments with no issue.
Labolas

The Destroyer of Fates, Labolas is the general name of animals which somehow wander into Inferno and survive long enough to become Infernal Demons, such as a dog that Bayonetta summons in the second game. The Labolas Bayonetta is bonded with in Bayonetta 3 is formed from a family of five cats. Beyond using its claws and teeth, this Labolas utilizes its breath to freeze targets at absolute zero temperatures. It notably has the ability to split itself into five parts, each of which maintain their own consciousness and can act independently.
Mictlantecuhtli

A bat-like demon composed of two brothers, the Presser of Destruction, this demon utilizes electric attacks, be it in singular shots, large fields, or lasers. It can also utilize waves of spiritual energy which can see objects that are invisible or hiding between dimensions.
Baal

The Empress of the Fathoms, Baal is a Demon that hides its true form, appearing as a large toad. She can make it rain poison, spawn explosive tadpoles, has an “endlessly long tongue” which it can use to swallow enemies whole, has impressive leaping ability, and most impressively, has a singing voice so powerful it can cause stirrings in the very Soul.
Hydra

The Spinner of Destinies, Hydra. Once a woman who was mercilessly prosecuted for the sins of her sister, she transformed into an Infernal Demon of immense power. It has multiple heads, but only one is real. Destroying the others will not yield any results outside of her wrath. It’s capable of deflecting missiles just by roaring and tanking Sapientia’s laser beams with its heads.
Diomedes

The Severer of the Dark, this Infernal Demon was once a man-eating horse that was killed as the kingdom it served was destroyed. Its power is not to be underestimated, and it is a prideful creature that only allows those who it deems worthy to treat it like a horse. The blade on its head is capable of slicing angels into ribbons.
Queen Sheba
The Queen of Inferno, Queen Sheba. When the original reality was split into the light, the darkness, and chaos, Queen Sheba was born. She controls Inferno itself, however the full extent of the details of her existence are entirely unknown. She has the strength to punch Jubelius’s soul across the solar system and merge it with the sun. Normally it would require more than one Umbran Witch to summon Sheba, but Bayonetta was able to summon her as part of Omne in Bayonetta 2.
Wartrain Gouon

The Charger of the Crimson Rim, this Infernal Demon was once a train made by a hyper-advanced civilization that was possessed by a vengeful spirit, turning it into what it is today. It’s made of a unique alloy and has a multitude of weapons built in, so it’s always prepared for battle. Bayonetta can direct it to run enemies over, and it can also summon other demons from Inferno to fight for Bayonetta.
Umbra Clock Tower

The Spire of the Forbidden, this Infernal Tower is made of the lingering resentment and souls of the Umbra Witches who died inside as they were dragged into Inferno in the midst of the Witch Hunts. Its defenses are near impregnable and has a vast assortment of weaponry (including turrets and Umbran Armor), alongside the ability to activate a variant of Witch Time more powerful than what Bayonetta herself has access to.
Kraken

The Despot of the Sullen Maw, the Kraken has never been contracted with before Bayonetta herself, and it features incredible power, able to use its ink and strength given by its unholy tentacles to great effect. Bayonetta uses it to smack enemies around and knock them away.
Alraune

The Whisperer of Dementia and The Whisperer of Insanity, this Infernal Demon was capable of trapping Jeanne’s soul and using it for power to amplify itself, and she has a hatred and rivalry with Madama Butterfly. A scorned woman, she had her soul devoured by poison and was reborn as a Demon, one that injects poison into others to keep them for herself, paralyzed for eternity, with even a touch being said to give certain death. She can create and control plant life, and can drain vitality. Bayonetta later gained the ability to summon and control her, using her control over plants to attack with tendrils.
Rodin

Father Rodin, The Infinite One, Armsmith Supreme, The Demonsmith, an Angel whose power was so impressive that even those who ruled the Heavens, whose will he directly served, cast him out of the Heaven that is Paradiso. But even among Demons he was regarded as the most powerful, and all feared him. He hunts and captures Demon Souls, binding them to weapons to sell to the Bayonetta(s) of the Multiverse. Using nothing but his fists, he is widely regarded as one of the most powerful beings in the Trinity of Realities. His power is so great he can create gravity fields by simply stomping, can nullify attacks with his barrier, and can rain down lightning upon those he fights against. He even knows the Raging Demon.
Rodin can create a black hole-like singularity that can one shot characters on par with Bayonetta, and is noted to cause actual despair to anyone who sees his gaze.
Resistances
As an Umbra Witch, Bayonetta has shown several resistances. Listed below are confirmed examples:
- Soul Manipulation: Bayonetta has resisted attempts from both Alraune and Resentment to take her soul. Generally her soul can only be removed when she is completely out of energy, like Gomorrah did in Bayonetta 3. She also scales to Jeanne and Balder being able to take blows from Shuraba and Chernobog in gameplay, both of which directly attack the soul of the target.
- Acausality: Any changes to her past creates an alternate timeline, and her existence is a deviation of the “original” Bayonetta from the first game. She is unaffected by the original’s death in the game despite this.
- Mind Control and Memory Manipulation: Her gemstone on her Umbran Clock can dispel mind control and memory-based control.
- Curses: Able to use Alrauna without going insane; should have a resistance comparable to Jeanne, who is unaffected by the curse that her weapon Karen instills upon its user.
- Partial Resistance to Life Drain: Can fight off Alraune’s life drain, but is still affected by it.
- Time Slow/Stop: Bayonetta can move in Jeanne’s stacked Witch Time and Aesir’s time stop.
- Fear Manipulation: Unaffected by the Fury and Rodin’s ability to cause fear and despair, and Loptr’s Aura.
- Madness Manipulation: Unaffected by Queen Butterfly’s presence, which crumbles the sanity of those near her.
- Paralysis: Bayonetta can fight against Mictan, whose lightning causes paralysis.
- Poison: Is unaffected by Baal raining down poison in Bayo 3. Can also fuse with Baal who has natural resistance to poisons. Scales to Jeanne, who is unaffected by the poisonous bugs who decorate her Samsa bow.
- Illusions: Mictlantecuhtli lets Bayonetta see through Illusions, as does the Left Eye.
- Pain: Tartarus grants Bayonetta immunity to pain.
- Empathy Manipulation: Able to resist the Dear and Decoration’s love arrows as well as Sloth’s swords, which can awaken feelings of gluttony, profanity, doubt, idiocy, rage, and arrogance when cutting the target.
- Sealing: Bayonetta can break angelic and demonic seals with Infernal Kiss and Heart Shot, up to a million with a single usage. Greed is shown to spit her out when attempting to devour her (Greed keeps all the souls it devours trapped inside itself). Demons and Angels can break Singularity’s seal over Paradiso and Inferno.
- Power Null / Magic Nullification: Scales to Jeanne, who can use magic despite being in the presence of Singularity’s anti magic field.
- Existence Erasure: Shown to resist the effects of Singularity’s clouds, which erase existence itself. Survived the complete erasure of a universe. Scales to Viola, who survived exposure to the erasure clouds.
- Demonic Control: Demon Slave allows Bayonetta to override attempts to take over her demons.
- Extreme Heat: Easily survives volcanic & solar temperatures. Jeanne, Bayonetta, and Balder were all capable of surviving re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere, which can reach temperatures up to 1649 degrees Celsius (3000 degrees Fahrenheit). They are also additionally unaffected by harsh, magma-filled environments created by Fortitudo, only being slightly affected if they end up making contact with the lava itself. Resistance is strengthened by Durga in fire mode; can attack blazing enemies & traverse burning areas with zero damage.
- Extreme Cold: Resisted and broke Gravitas’ ice. His extreme cold has been unpenetrated for eons, and it shows no change through the passage of time.
- Acid: Can tank Lustitia’s acid attacks.
- BFR: Bayonetta can create portals to travel freely in and out of Purgatorio, which can be used to escape BFR.
- Holy Attacks: Bayo and her Demons can fight off the holy attacks of Balder.
- Transmutation: Partial. Can control her own blood and change its form, to flowers as an example.
- Corruption: Unaffected by Sloth’s swords, which can turn angels into fallen angels. In fact, many fallen angels are victims of Sloth. Unaffected by Inferno’s corruptive nature, which can change life forms on a biological level.
- Fate Manipulation and Precog: Noted as being able to overturn Singularity’s Phenomena Affirmation, which is the ability to make certain phenomena across the Multiverse defined according to his will, forcing any world within the Multiverse to move towards a preordained outcome that he designs. Bayonetta and her counterparts continuously outpace and overturn this effect. She is also noted to be outside of what Aesir could view with the Eyes of the World, which includes the past, present future, and infinite possibilities of the Multiverse.
Forms
Dante
Devil Trigger

Dante can release his inner demonic powers and heritage to reveal the monster that lies within his human form, his true power reflected as a Demon. This massively enhances his pre-existing powers, and grants him new powers that he cannot access in his base form. The form increases attacking power and speed and replenishes health when he transforms. The form has been stated to double his movement speed and power.
This form also comes with a bunch of extras. For example, flight, a massive detonation of energy upon transformation, and restoring his Demonic Energy. If Dante’s not already enough to kill his opponents, this is usually enough to finish the job once and for all–And in style to boot. Truly, a terrifying thing to behold, and God have mercy on anyone who ever has to face such a power.
Devil Trigger Branches
Back in Dante’s youth, transforming into Devil Trigger alongside a Devil Arm would grant the Devil Hunter a passive effect to better benefit him in combat. This feature has been lost as Dante has aged, as seen throughout the events of Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 4, and Devil May Cry 5, but to cover all of the bases we’re going over them anyway.
- Cerberus: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante moves moderately faster than he does with normal Devil Trigger.
- Agni and Rudra: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante does moderately more damage and does extra elemental damage with the twin blades.
- Nevan: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante regenerates faster, gains a new method of flight, and another means of lightning manipulation.
- Beowulf: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante’s defense is moderately higher.
- Alastor: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante gains a moderate speed boost, passive range and melee electric element, lightning manipulation, and another means of flight.
- Ifrit: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante gains an increase in damage output, a passive range and melee fire element, hellfire manipulation, and better area of effect.
- Devil Sword Sparda: When activating Devil Trigger whilst this Devil Arm is equipped, Dante gains access to the power of Sparda, known as Sparda Devil Trigger, increasing all aspects of it, as you can read below.
Sparda Devil Trigger

This power greatly exceeds the standard Devil Trigger as it adds Dante’s pre-existing power with that of his father, Sparda. While Dante has long surpassed his father, this is still an incredibly important tool to have both emotionally and practically, as it is a method in which to connect to his father as well as utilize a higher form of power. This form has unique abilities as well, such as summoning flaming serpentine dragons, firing magic runes and fireballs, and he has used this form to fly through space.
Overall, it’s a form that is certainly more powerful than the standard Devil Trigger, enhancing all of the abilities to a level that Devil Trigger itself doesn’t even cover, and similarly has no known multiplier. It is just a stronger Devil Trigger.
Ultimate Devil Trigger

Also known as Majin Devil Trigger, the form seen here is a taste of Dante’s true potential, the power that lies beyond Sparda. Dante in his past had this as an uncontrollable form that would appear only in times of need, a fight or flight response in the case of near death. However, Dante has come far past his youth and can access his true form, as seen in the next Devil Trigger, so it’s likely he has access to this. The form fuses all of his weapons into his body.
This is further helped by the fact Majin Devil Trigger has its own unique set of abilities, such as firing balls of darkness, a giant death laser, its own designated melee attacks from the ingrown red sabers that exist in Dante’s arms, and more. There are also side benefits like complete invulnerability, or an explosion of demonic energy powerful enough to eradicate most of demonkind instantly. Its power, speed, and overall enhancement capacity vastly outpace Sparda Devil Trigger to the same degree Sparda Devil Trigger outdoes the normal Devil Trigger.
Sin Devil Trigger

The representation of Dante’s Human and Demonic Heritage becoming one and unified as well as being his true form, it’s his strongest form and the ultimate power. It’s no exaggeration to state that this form is the most powerful thing in Dante’s arsenal as his final trump card. Sin Devil Trigger performs the same tasks as every previous Devil Trigger, but added together in one all powerful boost, taking control of the potential Dante could temporarily access in near death situations and fully utilize it under his full control. In Peak of Combat activating the form freezes space and time for 5 seconds.
The Sin Devil Trigger form possesses several devastating abilities such as:
- Demolition, The power to create energy bursts inside others, attacking their internals and thus ignoring their external durability. The damage Demolition does is fixed, and does less damage to stronger opponents. This can also be fired as a flaming spirt bomb.
- Firing stronger balls of darkness
- Rapid firing homing missiles
- A powerful drill attack
- Faster evasion and better teleportation and superior flight
- A hellish ground pound, which unleashes hell flames
Judgement

Dante’s strongest attack available in this form is Judgement. The move summons a demonic sigil on the grounds, and Dante unleashes a flurry of slashes and physical attacks to devastate his opponent, followed by a detonation of Demonic Energy. It also freezes time for 10 seconds. The move uses all of Dante’s power at once and can match Vergil’s ultimate technique, Judgement Cut End. The move is meant to parallel Sparda’s Katas shown in the opening of Devil May Cry 1. In application, Judgement is similar to Vergil’s Hell on Earth move, described as projecting the very essence of the user’s being into a direct attack.
Quadruple SSS

While Sin Devil Trigger doesn’t last long for Dante (and does not heal him unlike regular DT), Dante has learned to manage his Demonic Energy in such a way that he can spam short bursts of Sin Devil Trigger. By taking advantage of the perks of Royal Guard (or just keeping the Style Meter up), Dante can continue to use SDT without using any of his DT Gauge without any immediate consequence. Quadruple SS allows Dante to quickly spam moves like Demolition (which usually leave him drained of his DT Gauge) and fight Urizen with Sin Devil trigger for nearly an hour (in repeated short bursts). The move isn’t flawless. The long drawn out final fight with Urizen left Dante so tired it took him several minutes to regain his stamina, despite using Quad SSS.
Bayonetta
Umbran Climax

Also known as “Supercharge”, Bayonetta can use this form in Bayonetta 2 whenever her magic gauge is full. In this state, she becomes immune to knockback and time-manipulation attacks, and all of her blows summon Wicked Weaves, with specific combos summoning different Infernal Demons for massive area-of-effect attacks.
Any health she’s lost prior to activating Umbran Climax also regenerates as it’s used, making this form useful for dealing out massive damage without having to worry about oncoming attacks. This form drains the magic gauge as it’s used, and will last until a full magic gauge bar is drained in gameplay. As Bayonetta can acquire three separate magic gauges through Moon Pearls, she can use this form up to three times in a row without having to recharge.
Infernal Weaves

When in Umbran Climax, Bayonetta gains access to a powerful new ability known as Infernal Weaves. These moves allow for the full summoning of some Infernal demons at the end of attack combos in order to increase her damage output towards the opponents.
Demon Masquerade

Upon building up enough energy through her attacks in Bayonetta 3, Bayonetta can utilize the Demon Masquerade technique, rebuilding her body from her very core to match whatever weapon she’s currently using, and essentially fusing her with her Infernal Demons. These forms act as powerful combo finishers, and each form has a Masquerade Rage ability, a devastating special attack that can be used once the magic meter is filled. She can also make use of these forms for traversal.
- Color My World: Bayonetta merges with Madama Butterfly, gaining the ability to fly, and can summon her arms for combo attacks. She has used this to fly into outer space.
- G-Pillar: Merges with Gamorrah to become a feral beast. Bayonetta can release bursts of flames from her claws to propel herself or cause explosions.
- Ignis Araneae Yo-Yo: Combining with Phantasmaraneae, Bayonetta becomes a large spider hybrid. She has a large flaming scorpion stinger and can spew magma at her foes. She can also walk on lava, create webs to swing from, and crawl on walls.
- Dead End Express: Bayonetta becomes the ultimate train conductor, by merging with Wartrain Gouon. She can manifest train tracks for traversal and attack her enemies with chainsaws and turrets.
- Ribbit Libido-BZ55: Bayonetta becomes an amphibian hybrid by fusing with Baal, gaining access to her potent poison. She also gains Baal’s deadly voice, using sound attacks for combat. Bayonetta’s amphibian tongue can extend, just like Baal’s, to whip enemies.
- Simoon: Bayonetta becomes a harpy after merging with Malphas. She gains the ability to fly with wings and can make tornadoes.
- Tartarus: A puppet-like form born from becoming one with the Umbran Clock Tower, Bayoneta loses the ability to feel any pain in this state. With Tartarus, she can create portals to teleport through, and detonate her mechanical body, and attacks with devastating slashes.
- Abracadabra: Bayonetta combines with Mictlantecuhtli, turning her body into a bat-like being with a split body joined together by a string of electricity. She can split her two halves to fight, fly long distances, and paralyze targets with her bioelectricity.
- Alruna: Bayonetta assumes the form of a planet-human hybrid, able to sprout plant tendrils for attacks. She can summon flower platforms and create vines for traversal and combat. The pollen from her plants drains vitality.
- Cruel Altea: A centaur like form attained after fusing with Labolas, she walks on the air itself. Cruel Altea’s breath is absolute zero, and can create massive ice spikes.
- Cassiopeia: Merging with Kraken causes Bayonetta to turn into an aquatic demon being with multiple eyes and tentacles. She can swim underwater, and even under “surfaces”, essentially swimming through the ground. The form attacks with its tentacles and by spewing high-pressure ink.
- Rodin: By far the most powerful fusion, granting Bayonetta power on par with Rodin’s dark side. Bayonetta gains Rodin’ s iconic demon wings, while retaining most of her human form. She can fire lasers, use Rodin’s absurd strength for crushing blows, and use his entire arsenal of Angel Arms. She can manifest katanas, staffs that drain energy, and even fire them all at once, Gate of Babylon style.
- Scarborough Fair/Love Is Blue: Unlike the other fusions, these weapons don’t change Bayonetta’s appearance when used. Instead, they allow for the use of her Beast Within techniques, and summon Madama Butterfly for Wicked Weaves, essentially restoring her moveset from the previous games.
Deadly Sin Ritual
(For Summons)

Deadly Sin is a forbidden summoning ritual that requires Bayonetta ripping her own heart out, using her magic enriched blood to unlock a demon’s unrestrained power. Using this technique is taxing to Bayonetta, as summoning two full power demons notably caused her to tire and bleed.
Queen Butterfly

Madama Butterfly’s true form, Bayonetta summoned her to fight the Arch-Pyrocumulus, who she promptly flicked through several mountains. Queen Butterfly stands at 8.9 kilometers tall, and her very presence drives those around her mad. She can manipulate clouds in the form of deadly “bubble” attacks and can fire what’s basically a Kamehameha, which did in tandem with Sin Gomorrah to defeat Singularity’s first form.
Sin Gomorrah

The uninhibited form of Gomorrah, becoming known as the Font of Devastation. Gomorrah grows several times larger, becoming a kaiju worthy of even Gojira’s notice. Sin Gomorra can fire off blasts of energy from its tail, mouth, and a mega laser from its chest cavity/mouth. Its charge attack can level skyscrapers and its back spikes absorb heat to fire out of its fire sac.
The Phantom

The Phantom is the ultimate form of the aforementioned Phantasmaraneae, achieved by the Deadly Sin ritual. In this empowered state, its internal reactor continuously creates magma at a heat of one trillion degrees, vaporizing practically everything that gets too close. As a result of its reactor being out of control, it cannot cool itself down, and must simply keep fighting until time runs out and it “explodes into nothingness”, with this timeframe being only a few minutes. While it initially disobeyed the main Bayonetta, after she proved her worth to it, it accompanied her and allowed itself to be used as a summon. In combat, it can attack with superheated claws, fire missiles and beams, and shoot out energy orbs. Its self-destruct was strong enough to create an explosion visible from space that killed the powerful Homunculus Stratocumulus.
Baal Zebul

The true form of Baal. Her voice can echo throughout all of inferno, and can deflect attacks. Her voice is said to cause death to those who hear it, and her singing killed thousands of summoned homunculi. Demons from Inferno will pop up during her performance to cheer her on.
Fused State

At the end of Bayonetta 3, the different Bayos from each game merge into one, with the composite gaining all their abilities and a notable boost in power, being able to nullify an attack from Singularity meant to kill them. The benefits of the fusion don’t last long, but it is the peak of Bayonetta’s power, allowing for her to effortlessly beat down Singularity Definition.

Scaling
Dante
Sons of Sparda

- Nero has:

- Overpowered Berial with his sword, who covered an entire mountain on fire
- Managed to tag a Blitz; Blitz travels as actual lightning
- Dodged an attack from Qliphoth roots
- Survived impalement from Yamato, which negates durability by “sniping the space” of the target
- Vergil has:
- Caught several bullets by spinning his sword
- Dodged gunfire and caught a bullet with his sword, cutting it into 6 individual pieces
- Moved fast enough to appear in multiple places when using Judgement Cut End, enough to outspeed Nero’s Petal Ray (11.9c, See BTV)
- In DMC5, his Dark Slayer is movement based, visually depicting after-images, whereas before it was instantaneous teleportation
- Urizen devoured the Qliphoth Fruit, which created all life in the Demon World and empowered Mundus. The fruit is more potent than the Qliphoth Tree, as it is the very essence of Demonic Power. The tree spread out across the earth according to the DMC 5 artbook, and states Urizen gained power over the Demon World after eating the fruit (82.78 Teratons of TNT)
- Urizen is stated to have enough power to shake the world
Demon Kings (feat. Mundus)

Dante by DMC 5 is stronger than Mundus, Argosax and Abigail. As such any feats they perform he easily scales to.
- Mundus created an entire universe from his energy(See Q/A)
- Mundus nearly dying threatened to collapse the Demon World and realms connected to it such as the Mirror World, which is a reflection of the Human World (See Q/A)
- Even after being sealed, Mallet Island was destroyed
- Void Mundus is the literal heart and central nexus of all the energy of the fused Human-Demon world.
- Argosax is stated to have the form and power of all demons and is equal to Mundus in power
- Argosax was in the process of merging the Demon world with the Human world / dimension
- Abigail opened a massive portal that evaporated the clouds beneath(1.12 – 7 Gigatons of TNT)
Demons of the Underworld

Demons Everywhere! Dante has defeated all kinds of demons over the years and eventually reached the renowned levels of power once held by his father. He scales to any demon he has defeated.
Beastheads:
- The mere presence of the Beastheads is dangerous for the World
- The Beastheads are noted to be “able to shape reality”
- The Beastheads caused a massive storm to stir. Its weakening is also noted to remove said storm.
- Nefasturrus made a storm and is powered by the Demon World
- The Savior is stated to strike harder than the strongest weapons on the planet
- Fury performs space-time jumps
Bayonetta
Angels & Demons

Over several years Bayonetta has defeated countless demons and angels from Inferno and Paradiso. Bayonetta has directly defeated the strongest among them, including Jubelius.
- Gracious and Glorious have enough power to “destroy the world”
- Fortitude destroyed a large coliseum in their fight
- Temperantia can swallow up whole countries in a single massive tornado
- The angel car Irenic can cross all of Paradiso in a day (7.2 Quadrillion c – 332 Quintillion c, Infinite)
- Main timeline Rosa is contracted to Madama Khepri and uses her power. Khepri controls time and the sun.
- Kraken is capable of destroying a building with their tentacles
- Jubileus, who has:
- Survived getting hit with enough force to crash into planets with no injury, and also being thrown into the moon
- When clashing with Sheba, damaged the moon and destroyed several meteors
- Balder using the power of its statue form destroyed the moon
- Even in its incomplete state, had enough power to cause universal armageddon
- Upon awakening, started creating an entire universe
- Can cross the solar system in seconds(398c)
Rivals

Bayonetta has faced off against Balder and Jeanne several times, and overcome them. She also has more spiritual energy than either.
- Balder, who can:
- Move as swift as light
- Dodge bullets fast enough to leave after images
- Survive buildings being tossed at him
- Survive the same satellite Bayonetta does
- Viola can:
- Dodge her own bullets
- Was unharmed by a large fall into the desert
Gods

Aesir and Singularity are the most powerful enemies Bayonetta has ever fought in her life. By losing the shackle that was the Right Eye, Bayonetta was able to match Aesir alongside Balder and by merging with her other selves, she defeated the more powerful Singularity.
- Aesir has:
- Generated a dimension described as being “beyond space and time”, that views the infinite timelines of the multiverse
- Potentially created Muspelheim, a “limitless” realm cut off from time
- With the Eyes of the World, could rewrite the universe in his image. This should put him on a similar level of power to Prime Jubileus, who can merge the entire multiverse together.
- The Singularity has:
- Killed and absorbed the Arch-Eves (Bayonetta’s/Jeanne’s) of at least 4886 universes (most likely an infinite amount) that he destroyed, and his Definition form was stated to be his strongest form even after Bayonetta freed all the Arch-Eves from him
- United with the Chaotic Energy of the entire multiverse. With this energy, Singularity could literally snap away the Trinity of Realities if it so wished.
- Further mastered control of this energy, reaching the point of being “like the universe itself
- Gained control over all dimensions, and could create a “Mandala Space”, which is linked to him
- His destabilization reached Ginnungagap, the void that encompasses all worlds, like how Earth is enveloped by the universe, and destroyed it
- His Kaiju-like form, Singularity Chaos, with all the energy of the universes he destroyed, can destroy entire cities! (Wow!)
Weaknesses
Dante

Dante is cocky to a fault. He is incredibly overconfident and hedonistic to the point where he barely takes his work as a Demon Hunter seriously, dragging out fights simply for the entertainment value, and even letting himself get purposefully impaled by Demons just for his own pleasure. Due to having grown bored over the years without having any strong enough Demons to kill, he will purposefully drag out a fight simply for entertainment value. This has bitten him in the buttocks quite a few times.
Furthermore, while Dante’s stamina can be recovered quickly, he can still get weaker in a fight if pressed by an equal opponent long enough. This is almost always shown in fights with Vergil/Urizen. Dante’s regen can also be “overtaxed”, such as Urizen knocking him out cold for a month after becoming far too powerful from his continual blood boosts. This is related to running out of stamina after a long fight with him (Vergil and Arkham both state Dante has to heal his wounds AND get strong). An example would be that DMC 1’s Demon World collapse was considered lethal to him while he was tired and weakened from fighting Mundus. Even full blooded Demons require rest to heal from wounds if they are tired, such as Berial.
Formerly, Dante was once plagued by the death of his mother and friends, with a combination of Vergil’s death and the death of an alternate world Trish by his own hands driving him to depression in DMC2. Dante eventually overcame this dread, his life lightened by his companions and the discovery of Nero, his nephew. In comic fashion, Dante also has horrible luck. His continual loss at gambling has left in debt over the years, to the point he cannot pay for proper plumbing for his business.
Bayonetta

(Hey, that guy seems kinda familiar…)
While Bayonetta is undeniably one of the most badass women in video game history, she still has a few shortcomings. Stronger foes (usually the gods she lays out), while she has managed to kick the everloving shit out of them, have been able to overpower her every now and then, leading to Cereza requiring some help from allies to help properly finish the job.
A flaw in one of Bayonetta’s stronger abilities lies in her Deadly Sin ritual. While it is extremely powerful and allows her to summon up to two enhanced demons at once, it is also extremely draining on her, with one ritual alone leaving her nearly out of breath and bleeding heavily before she performed the second one. And the ritual itself involves her ripping out her own heart and letting her blood touch the ritual circle to begin with, so there is a bit of blood loss for her to worry about, even if she can heal from it.
And as powerful as her Umbra Witch abilities are, if the source of her powers, the Umbran Watch, is damaged, there’s a massive chance she’ll be left weakened and vulnerable, potentially giving her foe a chance to finish her off, as Singularity almost did. And if the Umbran Watch is destroyed, it’s effectively game over as she loses access to most of her abilities and control over any Umbran Demons she has on the field, which can potentially (and has in canon) lead to a fatal end for her.
Also, she has a really bad habit of wrecking whatever fancy clothes she’s wearing whenever she gets into a fight, in particular usually getting her clothes sliced up suggestively (though whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on the viewer), before she changes into her Umbra Witch attire.
Before the Verdict
Bayonetta
Three Bayonettas

To keep things simple, Bayonetta 3 implies all three mainline Bayos are different. It is noted the three experienced similar events, and the game director chose to leave the situation ambiguous when asked in Game Informer. Regardless, they merge at the end of the game, so using abilities for the three for blog purposes is fine.

Bayonetta’s cosmology is three different realities, which were split from the original universe by a cosmic event called the First Armageddon. After the split, Paradiso, Inferno, and the World of Chaos/Human Realm came to be. The World of Chaos further split, becoming a stacked multiverse of infinite parallel universes. In Bayonetta 2 it is also revealed that time itself reflects infinitely, being in reference to the infinite timelines/universes Aesir would oversee from his dimension that existed above them, to which Luka mentions that there are endless possibilities. At minimum the multiverse has 2,043 universes, and going by the numbering system showing the universes in Bayonetta 3, at least 4,886 of them. The World of Chaos also has multiple layers.
The multiverse is supported upon a dimensional bulk called Ginnungagap, the void that encompasses all worlds, like how Earth is enveloped by the universe. The worlds themselves are like grains of sand inside of which form into the platforms dimensional travelers cross on, as shown here.
The three realities are layered on each other and they all have different Spiritual Energy running through them. Paradiso is noted to be thousands of times larger than the Human Realm/World of Chaos. Paradiso has its own cosmos. Inferno is comparable to Paradiso and is possibly Queen Sheba herself.
Higher Dimensional
Bayonetta

Bayonetta has two arguments for higher dimensionality. This section will cover both.
The Bayonetta 3 artbook gives more on the realm Ginnungagap:
GINNUNGAGAP
YUKI SUDA (Artist): I imagined the bottom of the sea as a space encompassing multiple parallel worlds; like the universe around the Earth. Bits and pieces of the worlds’ memories pile up like sand, until they crystallize into floating islands. The magic drifts, gathers, and wanders like sea creatures. This is basically like the loading screens of the Bayonetta games.
YUSUKE MIYATA (Director): In fact, Ginnungagap is the full realization of the world in the loading screens, where players practice their moves! You could say that the loading screens are traveling the multiverse through Ginnungagap.
Ginnungagap is basically a dimensional bulk supporting the infinite multiverse and is far larger than it. Ginnungagap encompasses all infinite parallel worlds, in a similar vein to how our universe encompasses the earth, and the universes are like small islands in it. Since there’s an infinite multiverse embedded in that space, the argument would be that the only way to be bigger than infinity is for it to be a greater set of infinity, in which case it be considered a higher dimensional bulk. Singularity is shown destroying Ginnungagap when it destroys the multiverse.
The notion of it being a higher dimensional bulk is at least somewhat explored, though the game never flat out says this. It is at least a bit more viable than the following argument.
In Bayonetta 2 we are told that the universe/World of Chaos has layers to it. Aesir’s temple, the ground of Fimbulventr, and even the mechanisms that are powered by Loki all depict diamonds that represent these layers.
The issue here saying these are dimensions is the keyword “matrix”. They are all components of the same dimension/reality, they are not depicted or stated to be higher dimensional. It’s also likely a mistranslation:
There is a mark that symbolizes it. Its crest is carved all over the city.
It’s shaped like a combination of rhombuses, and it seems that each overlapping rhombus represents the origin of each era and the universe.
Some of Aesir’s crests are made of metal that emits a mysterious glow, and it is said that they have some deep meaning, but it seems that it will take a little more time to solve the mystery.
In the end Ginnungagap holds some possibility, but the diamonds do not.
Bayonetta’s “Weaknesses”

Bayonetta is assumed by some to be a glass cannon, and that her demons are her only power. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Bayonetta actively is shown further empowering her own demons, and going toe to toe with powerful angels and demons by herself. She’s taken powerful attacks from Loptr, which oneshotted her own demons. Bayonetta also can only have her soul ripped when her energy is drained and her Umbran Watch is damaged. Jeanne was only soul ripped when caught off guard in Bayonetta 2, and Bayo shows in that very game she can fight off attempts at attacking her soul.
Devil May Cry
What’s canon for Devil May Cry?

To keep things simple, Itsuno (Current DMC director) has gone on record to canonize nearly all of Devil May Cry, as part of the restructuring of the Devil May Cry timeline. This includes the novels for the games, and the two manga that exist as well. Matt Walker has acknowledged elements of the DMC4 novel are canon, which makes sense since it’s meant to be an “extended version” of the fourth game.
The DMC1 novel slightly contradicts the events of the series, but it is stated to be canon, and the DMC5 prequel novel retconned the events to have been caused by “lesser demons”. Gilver was actually retconned to be a clone made by Mundus years before DMC 5, in 2007. The First novel was also stated to be canon when DMC3 was released. Dante’s alias as “Tony Redgrave” is also mentioned in Devil May Cry: The Animated Series (Episode 8), and DMC5 itself, alongside the fact the novel provides the only explanation as to where engraving “.45 Art Warks” comes from. It is in reference to Nell Goldstein (who first appears in this novel), the grandmother of Nico from DMC5. She designed Ebony and Ivory for Dante, which is shown in the novel and confirmed by Capcom. Nell herself is mentioned to have created Ebony and Ivory by Nico in cutscene, and in the gallery. This same entry makes mention of Bobby’s Cellar, a location also from the Vol. 1 novel, and said Cellar reappears in both Before the Nightmare, alongside being renamed after a key character in the novel, Grue. The Cellar also reappears in Visions of V.
As for guidebooks:
The “3, 1, 4, 2” artbook is viable to use, as it has the most given information by staff working on DMC, including Itsuno. Devil May Cry 1 Kaitai Shinsho is a Japan exclusive complete edition of the DMC1 Guide, which includes exclusive lore told from the perspective of Dante, some of which would be used by the Visions of V manga. Precious Tears is an artbook for the first game that gives further details on the story.
The DMC English game guides are officially licensed by Capcom, and have developer input, including from the directors. The guides also provide lore that does not contradict established lore in the games.
The timeline goes: Light Novel 1, DMC3 manga, DMC3, DMC1, DMC anime, DMC1 CD stories, (both Volumes), DMC2 novel, DMC2, Deadly Fortune (starts slightly before the events of DMC4) and DMC4, Before the Nightmare (starts slightly before DMC5) and Visions of V (starts slightly before DMC5, after BtN and ends in the midst of DMC5) and DMC5.
DMC Cosmology

The cosmology of Devil May Cry is fairly simple. Originally a single universe existed that split into two halves, the Demon World and Human World (Earth’s universe). In this era, Demonkind and Humankind lived in a constant era of chaos, which eventually came to a close when the universe was split in two by the “first light”. The actual power from the Original Chaos is nearly gone and a small portion remains in the two halves.
What came out of the split was the Demon World and Human World (Which are referred to as being “the Upper and Lower realm” in the DMC1 Manual). Both together still make up a universe in size, which is affirmed by Mundus’ lore entry in the DMC1 game guide. Both the Demon World and Human World are described as being dimensions in the novels and DMC2 Game Guide, alongside an example of alternate world that has both fused being called an “parallel universe”.
Both realms are shown to have celestial bodies and stars. While the Human World is sometimes used to refer to Earth, it is also used to refer to the Human Universe.
Both realms are also cut off dimensionally by a barrier that prevents high ranking demons from crossing over, and demons generally need to possess vessels to manifest in the Human World.
Universal DMC

Nightmare
Nightmare has 2 statements that it can destroy the Demon World. In the past it was made by Mundus as a weapon, and it proved so powerful he had to bind it. Interestingly, the first statement was in the DMC1 Japanese game guide over 20 years ago, which then was mentioned again in the DMC5 manga.
The statements in order of release:
DMC1 Japanese Game Guide (From Dante’s commentary):

unlimited; unrestricted; limitless
While an alternative translation describes the Demon World’s destruction as occurring if the Nightmare were to release its power “indefinitely”, this is a mistranslation. The above term simply means “unlimited” or “unrestricted”, and is actually being used to describe the Nightmare’s power itself as opposed to giving a timeframe for its destruction. In context, the “without restriction” part is likely referencing the harness placed on Nightmare that shackles its power.
Visions of V manga
Its power could destroy the Demon World.
So much so he bounded and restrained the very power he sought.
It was created as a weapon without a will.
Consistently it is framed that Nightmare has the power to destroy the Demon World. One might ask, if Nightmare is this powerful, why doesn’t it nuke the Human World or Demon World in DMC1? The answer is that it has no free will. It’s explicitly under Mundus’ orders for the entire game, and he has no intent to destroy either universe. Likewise, V has no intent to destroy either realm in DMC5, and its output is limited by V directly.
It is also narratively consistent for Nightmare to be this potent, as when first acquired by V, he was convinced Nightmare could challenge Urizen (Urizen before he got blood amps). Also Nightmare even when weakened is still powerful enough that Mundus used it directly as a weapon. Final point, when referring to Mundus’ kingdom, this would be at least half of the entire demon world, as Mundus and Argosax each ruled half of the entire realm (Stated in Before the Nightmare, the DMC5 novel).
Mundus
By far the most contentious topic in regards to scaling/vs-centric discussion related to DMC. Most back and forth between this revolves around twitter statements regarding Hideki Kamiya answering questions about if Mundus makes a universe in this scene in DMC1. Kamiya himself is controversial to use for validation, as he no longer has authority on the series and WoG for this scene is solely from twitter, and not an interview/commentary. Luckily other material such as the The DMC 1 Perfect Capture Book & Precious Tears guide answer what is occurring in this scene.
Guidebook Statements:
Devil May Cry Perfect Capture Book, released 2001
2 魔帝空間“天” | 天空を飛翔し、ムンドゥスを撃ち落とせ
ムンドゥス戦の1回戦はムンドゥスが作り上げた亜空間での戦いとなる。
Demon Emperor’s Realm: “Heaven” | Soar Through the Sky and Strike Down Mundus
The first battle against Mundus takes place in a subspace created by him.
The Perfect Tears guide states:
When Mundus flaps his wings, The temple lost its existence in an instant, The world was surrounded by a sea of stars. Only both of them face the vast universe.
Furthermore the same guide says the following:
Right off the bat, we know this space is real and not an illusion, based on the descriptions. The space is called Demon Emperor’s Space (Translation Below, From the Japanese DMC 1 Guide and English Guide)

Perfect Capture Guide says Mundus made the realm and it is said the temple “ceased to exist” in Precious Tears, which implies physical alteration of the environment. The counter would be that it’s referring to literally what’s perceived, the temple no longer existing in the game state, but the text is a narrative description and not a gameplay one. Likewise, the specific japanese is ” 包む ” for the stars. “包む” means stuff like “to pack” or “to wrap” or “to cover” or “to envelop”. Notably it implies an active action and addition to what’s there, as opposed to removing what’s there in the first place. Furthermore, Mundus uses sigils to transport himself across dimensions, which does not occur in the space scene. This lines up with the intended level of power he is supposed to have.
Devil May Cry English Game Guide
Q: Who named the villain Mundus and why?
Universal Mundus is quite solid, but is it consistent? Let’s check some other feats:
Demon World Collapse
It is stated in the Precious Tears guide and in two English guides that Mundus’ death would have collapsed the Underworld/Demon World.
“Underworld collapsing” and “Beginning in the hall of Mundus, Dante has exactly 5 minutes to reach the entrance of the underworld before it collapses, or he dies’ and “Dante defeats Mundus and prepares to escape from the collapsing underworld.”
The Last Roar of the Demon Emperor Mundus. The death of Trish.
This is how the long battle came to an end.
Various thoughts and feelings come and go in his chest.
Dante returns to the old world.
The old realm, too, was approaching its final moments.
Dante, who took care of Trish’s last breath
He left an amulet and a magic sword for her.
He began to run without looking back.
The old castle rumbled violently. The collapse was accumulating.
As the page says “Dante returns to the old world” (this old world clearly being the Demon World), “the old realm, too, was approaching its final moments” and this part is just pure confirmation the Demon World was collapsing with Mundus dying.
Finally the last part: “The old castle rumbled violently”, of course and you can see this in game, everything is shaking, last but not least important “the collapse was accumulating” the final nail in the coffin, the world was ending.
We know from the game itself the collapse goes far beyond a castle, as the collapse even affects the mirror world, which is a dimension separate from the castle. If you have played DMC1 you will know that Dante opens a portal to the demon world in the castle, he enters a mirror dimension and in that mirror dimension he “breaks” the seal Sparda placed to get into the demon world.
Mission 23 specifically shows the effects of the collapse extending into the Upside Down Cathedral, which is part of the Mirror World (here is Dante entering it earlier). Dante goes from the Demon World, into the Mirror World, and out into the Human World, specifically Mallet Island.
Mirror World is meant to be a Mirror of the Human World:
The mirror that reflects this world is the entrance to the demon world! This Demon’s cave, where he cannot even breathe, distorts Dante’s consciousness with its powerful demonic sea air and robs him of his vision. “The Stone of the Bridge is in Dante’s hand, and the demons surround him in a frenzy.
Stated to be a literal reflection of the “world”
Devil May Cry Perfect Capture Guide
Is in-between Human World and Demon World
Devil May Cry Sacred Heart Guide Page 31
it’s basically a copied version of the Human World, and yet it’s only a small fraction of the demon realm serving only as an entrance to it in Mallet Island. This mirror realm represents evil in humanity’s hearts, it’s also a space-time as implied here. Portraits to enter it show a moon for example. The Mirror World also has its own mirror to the Sun, in reverse as the dimension itself is. So the collapse is indeed more than just the castle, and more so the Demon World.
The reason the collapse does not finish is that Mundus recovers from his apparent death and is then sealed by Dante. Considering the Demon World is at the very least half a universe, this has the potential to be a cosmic feat.
Void Mundus
Void Mundus is an alternate universion of Mundus who prevailed over Sparda and accomplished his goal to merge both realms. In doing so, he became a “void” and acts as the centerpoint of all energy of the fused realm. Dante defeats him with ease, despite an implication Void Mundus is stronger than his main counterpart.
The worlds are merged in this alternate universe. What occurred is that Mundus succeeded in his plan to merge both realms. The worlds having merged is proven by the following:
“Yet he doubted he and Beryl were in the Underworld. There was no sense of magic underpining the geography. In fact, magic was rather conspicuous in its absence. Dante suspected he was in a HALFWAY PLACE, a REALM neither HUMAN nor DEMON.”
Dante notes the alternate world he is in a halfway place between both. This makes sense as he references this as similar to what Gilver did in the DMC1 novel. For context, in that novel Gilver (A demon sent by Mundus) creates a nexus in which the surroundings would begin transforming into another demon world and spread out to consume the entire human world. Something that is loosely echoed in the novel.
This is relevant because Void Mundus is described as both the Heart of the Demon World and the Nexus of its energies. The usage of heart is pretty obvious, it means that Mundus is the center, the source of the demon world, that’s why as the demons get close to him their power starts replenishing to the point where it oversaturated their bodies with power and all of them start falling down. Being this nexus turned Mundus into a literal void, and Dante survives the void exploding on him point blank when he kills it.
Summary
- Nightmare is consistently stated to be able to destroy the Demon World, which is a universe.
- Mundus either made a universe / sent Dante to another space in the Demon World, and his defeat destabilized and threatened to destroy the Demon World, including the alternate dimension of the Mirror World
- Void Mundus is the center of all demonic energy of the Fused Demon-Human parallel universe, and Dante survives his detonation after killing him. His death is implied to erase the alternate universe.
How fast is Dante?

You may have noticed a note about 2 speed feats in Dante’s sections, Vergil blitzing Nero’s Petal Ray light beam with Judgement Cut and Dante’s flight through Mundus’ space. Starting with Vergil, Vergil uses a mechanic called Concentration, Vergil builds up speed for faster attacks. With enough Concentration built up Vergil can use Judgement Cut End, a move so fast Vergil is making speed clones. This move lets Vergil blitz the light speed Petal Rays at nearly 12 times the speed of light. Given this is short bursts of increased speed via focus (focus also allows Dante’s Royal Guard to reach its full potential), it is something Dante and Vergil achieve at certain intervals in a fight and not every second.
As for Mundus, Dante’s flight through space has a notable cut. Dante flies through space and suddenly is on another planet, with part of the voyage missing due to the spontaneous cut. As such we do not have an objective amount of time the flight took. It could have been a few seconds, or a few minutes. We also do not know the exact location and distance Dante crossed. What could possibly be used in the following but it is not objective:
Dante flies to space and reaches a planet. While the camera is at an angle, no planets are visible at all and the Precious Tears guide describes the space as “surrounded by a sea of stars”. It indicates that only the stars are what’s visible from Dante and Mundus’ perspective, indicating the planet is not visible
The angular resolution of the human eye is 1 arcminute. We can use a minute as a guess for the time.
Distance: 4.3716e+10m
Timeframe: 1 minute, there’s a cut but it couldn’t be long
Speed: 728600000 m/s, 2.43 times FTL
Using the option of the Distance of Mercury to Earth (Mercury is the closest planet to Earth) and 1 minute would be 4.28 times FTL, but any assumed distance is arbitrary. The feat is unquantifiable at worst and lower than Vergil blitzing Petal Ray at best.
What about Mundus making a Universe with his demonic energy? While Mundus did infact make a universe, Dante does not react to the universe forming. There is no evidence that Mundus’ energy attacks use the same or comparable amounts of energy for a basic projectile VS making an the entire universe, nor is there evidence that the universe forms at a linear speed. The other issue is that it would be an outlier, being astronomically above any other speed feat applicable to Dante.
Dante’s “Regeneration Negation”

You may have noticed Dante’s argument for negating regeneration is absent from his ability section. This is because there really is no solid basis for such a power. Demons’ ability to heal is tied to their stamina and amount of demonic energy. Dante is claimed to have this specific power from 2 distinct examples, so let’s cover them.
Demon Monkey, Novel 1
Sid, DMC Anime
In the original Devil May Cry anime a powerless demon named Sid absorbs the power of the Demon King candidate Abigail. Dante turns Sid into a pile of blood, but Sid regenerates and knocks him out via surprise attack. Dante later awakens after being saved by Patty and defeats Sid with a Devil Trigger Explosion, reverting him back to his base state and killing him with Ebony and Ivory. Did Dante negate Sid’s regeneration? No. Dante hit Sid with so much force with the Devil Trigger Explosion that Sid reverted back to his base state, his regeneration overtaxed, similar to what Urizen would do to Dante years later.
Dante’s “Weaknesses”

While Dante does have weaknesses, a few are misunderstood or taken out of context, so this section will be used to explain some weaknesses that simply don’t exist.
Dante’s blunt-force durability versus his piercing damage durability. Simply put, it’s believed that due to scenes where he allows himself to be impaled, such as the intro of DMC3, gaining Alastor in DMC1, being impaled by Rebellion in 4 thanks to Nero, and the like that he simply can take punches but not blades. This is untrue. As stated by Dante himself, he makes a sport of taking attacks because they can’t do lasting damage and to essentially have fun. This is the same reason why he can take a strike from Urizen but be stabbed seven ways to sunday by fodder.
In regard to the supposed heart weakness, it is gone as early DMC1, as Dante confirms in the Japanese guide of that game that Trish impaled him through the heart, and that it cannot kill him. Additionally, back when Gilver made the comment about heart removal being enough to kill Dante, he was using a “rip-off Yamato” that was enchanted with the power of decay. Also, Vol.1 is the weakest variation of Dante, who barely took back his name and power, which means for all intents and purposes he can’t be used as an anti-feat because this is him barely starting to use his power.
The Haywire Neo Generator from DMC3 is used to say Dante doesn’t resist soul-based attacks, but the issue is most Demons can affect Souls, and he simply walks off their attacks, if it even incurs damage to begin with. However, we know for a fact the Temen-ni-gru held some of the smartest individuals, as it has texts that are more like concepts that can’t be explained in words alone, with intimate knowledge of the Demon World and its materials. This is also the second weakest iteration of Dante (DMC3), and can’t be compared to his older self as he is only shortly after Vol.1, with little access to his power, a major plot point in the game as this he barely attains his basic Devil Trigger halfway through it.
Verdict

Stats
Focusing on direct feats for now, both Dante and Bayonetta are packing impressive physicality. For speed, Dante can react to light and scales to Vergil outpacing light 12 times over with enough focus. Bayonetta herself, with Queen Sheba, can punch Jubileus to the sun in a short timeframe, similarly in the massively faster than light speeds. As for raw strength. Bayonetta herself is capable of throwing large satellites with just her damn legs, and Dante can block punches from the skyscraper sized Savior, which hits harder than any weapon on the planet.
While all these feats are impressive, their max potential lies in scaling and the cosmology of their verses. Dante/DMC is up first.
The Demon World is established in lore to have been half of the original universe, alongside the Human World, before it was split apart, meaning its size is at least half of the universe. However, it is currently shown to be comparable in size to the Human World, which is really just portrayed as the observable universe, meaning it’s more than likely the Demon World is just outright universe-sized.
This is noteworthy as Dante defeats Nightmare in DMC1, who is stated to be capable of destroying the Demon World’s very existence. Similarly, Dante ends up beating Mundus in the first game, whose defeat was collapsing both the Demon World and the Mirror World, a parallel universe. All three feats/statements are pretty solid, and additional support in the form of Argosax and Void Mundus make Dante solidly in the Universal range.
To address some stuff, while there are statements of the Demon World being infinite in size, a lot of these statements aren’t reliable. Endless/unending when referring to a location (or in general really) is usually a figure of speech that just means that it’s seemingly without end, as in it extends too far to see the limit (i.e. the endless sea, the day felt endless). Extrapolating a much bigger size for the Demon World based on such vague/flowery language is very dubious.
With these insane cosmic stats, you might ask how Bayonetta can stack up. The answer is simple: very well.
In Bayonetta 1, Cereza was capable of defeating Jubileus, who, even while weakened, planned to override the Trinity of Realities. Bayonetta herself has gotten much stronger since then, and in Bayonetta 3, fought and defeated Singularity, who threatened to destabilize the entire cosmology, including Ginnungagap. How impressive are these? Well, a brief explanation on Bayonetta’s cosmology would be needed
One of Bayonetta’s main settings is the World of Chaos/Human World, which is basically a large macrocosm, housing at least thousands of parallel universes/worlds, but more than likely an infinite amount considering statements from Bayonetta 2 and checking the original Japanese raw from Bayonetta 3. Alongside this is Paradiso, a realm stated to be thousands of times bigger than an already large multiverse, and its counterpart, Inferno, should be similarly big. These three realms make up the Trinity of Realities, which is then housed below Ginnungagap, a realm whose size compared to the Trinity is like that of the universe compared to Earth. Bayonetta is strong enough to battle villains capable of affecting a large majority, if not the entirety of this vast cosmology, putting her at Multiversal, but more than likely Multiversal+.
As far as speed goes, Bayonetta can keep up with the car Irenic, which can cross all of Paradiso in a single day. Given Paradiso is stated to be thousands of times larger than the World of Chaos, this clocks in at around quadrillions to quintillions of times faster than light. However, given the World of Chaos more than likely houses infinite realities via other statements, Paradiso being bigger than it would likewise put its size at infinite, and thus Irenic’s highest (and more likely) end being infinite speed.
Comparing the two, speed is rather clear cut. Bayonetta trumps any showing of speed in DMC, even giving leeway to Dante’s space flight feat.
Likewise strength and durability comparison is similar. Comparing their cosmic scaling, Bayonetta at minimum is thousands of times stronger than Dante using the minimum size of the Trinity of Realities, and is likely stronger to an infinite degree that Dante can’t hope to keep up with. Bayonetta comfortably scales to the entirety of her own cosmology, which is above what Dante can reliably be comparable to as far as his own cosmology is concerned.
Ultimately, in a raw stat contest, while the demon hunter may have the speed to keep up, he ultimately comes short in raw power and durability when put up against the Umbran Witch, with any arguments for matching or surpassing her not holding much water.
Arsenal & Abilities
How hax stacks for both goes back and forth. What once was a far more simple comparison has evolved with the introduction of Bayonetta 3’s demonic overhauling. Below will be a breakdown to the best of our ability.
Regeneration & Stamina
Dante’s main method of overcoming the AP gap is his broken regeneration, which can restore a hybrid like him from the loss of body , as shown by Nero. Bayo’s showings of negating angel healing does not stack up to regeneration this potent. That said, there is evidence Dante only has a limited number of these full restores.
DMC1 shows that the collapse of the Demon World would be fatal to Dante despite his regen, who was weakened from his fight with Mundus. When Dante or other hybrids have extended fights with someone equal (Dante vs Vergil) or someone stronger (Urizen), their stamina can take a toll, which drops all their stats until they regain it over time. Dante also notes in the DMC4 novel that he would rather avoid being turned to ash, which further reinforces the idea that regening from such a thing would drain a lot of energy/stamina. Given the massive power gap, Bayonetta would splatter Dante with each attack, which would eventually lead to him being too tired to heal immediately and lock in a win for Bayo.
As for Bayo herself, she can heal from full body destruction so long as her soul remains, and her soul will remain so long as it has an Umbran Heart. Dante’s “Regen negation” (which is not something he really has) isn’t fully explored in how it would affect the Umbran Heart, but the bigger issue is he lacks the AP to even physically harm Bayo in the first place.
Time Hax Clash
One of the big ones. Who has the better temporal abilities?
Bayonetta: Bayo has Witch Time, which increases her reflexes and also slows time. She can stack the ability a few times, and extend its duration with the Earring of Time and Selene’s Light. Furthermore, the Bracelet of Time allows her to activate WT without any build up and the Umbran Clock Tower gives another time slow on top of this. At its full potency, WT can even work on Aesir, the god of chaos who controls time and space.
Likewise, Bayonetta can resist the effects of WT from other users like Jeanne, and move in stacked Witch Time. She can also move in Aesir’s time slow/stop.
Dante: Dante has four different options of temporal hax. He has Quicksilver/QS which is a time slow, the Chronoheart which is the same thing, and the Bangle of Time which is a proper time stop.
Comparison: This is an easy answer. Bayonetta can resist time hax on par with Dante’s, even from Aesir whose power is described as transcending space and time and can connect multiple points in time together. Dante cannot resist Witch Time. The extensions and semi automatic nature of WT (via Bracelet) means it will outpace Dante’s potential attempt at stacking his own options. More importantly, Bayonetta’s entire fighting style is formed around abundant stacking and usage of WT. Dante has a single style based around temporal control, and is not shown to stack his options. Overall, Bayo’s time hax barely edges out.
Names
DMC has an in-verse mechanic of Demons having a Name, which is a conceptual/fundamental part of what defines them. While Bayonetta as a verse does not have this, verse equalization prompts a discussion regarding it for Bayo and her demons. It should be noted that Dante affecting Names in this manner is out of character, having only done once in his life to himself under Rebellion’s mental suggestion.
Bayonetta 2 features a demon called Malicious, which is noted to steal Names from beings. Bayonetta can fight this demon and retains her name. To be fair, “names” in Bayonetta are not explored and do not have the same fundamental nature as they do in DMC. What does, however, is Bayonetta’s Left Eye of the World, which can make concepts from nothing. While Bayo using the Eye in this manner is out of character, so is the possibility of Dante removing Names.
Dante’s Fear Aura VS
Bayonetta’s Resistance
This one does not need that much coverage. When sufficiently enraged (usually related to family or the loss of a loved one), Dante will release an aura which induces fear into humans or demons he fights. This is potent enough to bypass Demons’ inability to feel fear. Dante has only had this occur three times in lifetime (Death of Niel Goldstein, Chen mocking his family and father, and V bringing up Vergil who Dante thought was dead at the time). As such, it’s quite unlikely Dante would trigger this aura when fighting Bayo, as she has no knowledge of Dante or connection to his family. Furthermore, she can resist similar effects from the Fury, Loptr, and Rodin.
Soul Hax Comparison
Dante has just direct showings of being able to affect the soul. Bayonetta has shown that she can resist soul rips from Resentment and Alraune, and will generally resist so long as she has energy left. She also scales to characters who can resist attacks on their souls from weapons like Shuraba and Chernobog. While Jeanne has her soul removed by Gomorrah, this was a surprise attack and oddly she seemed to lack an Umbran Heart, which she was later given.
Sealing
Dante is noted to be better at sealing than his father, who sealed off the entire Demon World, though the process requires a portal to be the Demon World.
On the flip side, Bayonetta is shown to be able to casually angelic and demonic seals, and is noted by the Bayonetta 1 Artbook to be able to break one million at once. Bayo also scales to Jeanne, who can resist the power null of the anti-magic fields Singularity made. Most impressively, Bayo’s demons can break Singularity’s seal on Inferno, which is larger than the Demon World in DMC.
Yamato/Spatial Hax
Dante owns a shard of Yamato, which can cut space and likely carries the durability-negating abilities of the full sword. When Balrog acquires a similar shard in the DMC5 novel, he uses it for close-range attacks, which may imply the range of a shard is limited. Balrog also showed its possible for shards to be broken, which Bayonetta has the strength to do. Basically trying to attack with the shard opens the chance for Bayo to destroy it. It’s also unlikely Dante would risk the destruction of his main method out of BFR.
Weapons
Lastly, a quick weapons comparison. Bayonetta resists Dante’s elemental weapons and will also resist his soul-attacking weapons so long as she has energy, Dante likewise resists her soul-attacking weapons. Dante can resist Bayo’ molecular destroying weapon Bazillion, but she likewise resists his anti-magic bullets given Jeanne resisting similar effects. Bayo might be able to partially energy drain Dante, and she can fight off his draining weapons with the Climax Earring. Both have healing and resurrection items that cancel out, and temporary invulnerability as well. Dante’s holy water working on her demons is unlikely given they fight off holy attacks from angels all the time. All in all, it’s their abilities that will decide the fight, alongside power.
Summary
Dante himself resists several of Bayonetta’s best abilities but is ultimately outgunned and his best options are either limited or far too vague matter in the long run. Bayo having the option to destroy his weapons like the Yamato SHard seals the deal in her favor.
Tertiary Factors
When it comes to this battle, a factor not many seem to consider are the skills, experience and personality of these two combatants. There is a reason as to why the first two aren’t as important overall however. Both Bayonetta and Dante have displayed incredible skill feats and both have years of experience under their belts. Both have fought beings on the level of or considered gods as well as entities who have had the data of each of their entire multiverses. Both have displayed mastery over an extremely vast amount of weaponry and the capability to combat multiple varied enemies at the same time. So in terms of skill and experience, both can be argued to be completely equal in this category.
However, the last factor to consider is the personality of both. While both are not afraid to get serious and use their deadlier abilities, Dante has shown himself to be far more cocky in battle against his opponents and less likely to use his more dangerous abilities off the bat. Compare this to Bayonetta who while appearing to be just as cocky at first, has shown herself to take her fights far more seriously off the bat when faced with a deadly opponent. This is shown when even against her weaker adversaries, she is far more willing to spam and stack Witch Times to overwhelm them. While both show that they love to play with their adversaries, Bayonetta has consistently shown to be more willing to get serious off the bat compared to her devil hunting counterpart.
Overall, in terms of skill and experience, Dante and Bayonetta match each other. In terms of personality and in terms of using their more dangerous abilities off the bat, Bayo has a very slight edge in this department.
Conclusion

“It’s not about loss… Strength is a choice. Fighting like hell to protect what’s important.”
Advantages:
- Yamato Shard could harm Bayo despite her durability advantage and counters BFR
- Heat based weapons surpass Bayo’s resistance
- = Hot
- Is a Pizza Lover (based)
Disadvantages:
- Weaker and less durable
- Does not resist all WT stacks + Umbran Clock Tower
- Sealing is conditional
- The Yamato Shard can be broken
- Was merely a Mii Costume
- Sells his Devil Arms because he is poor (can’t even afford good plumbing… bruh)

Advantages:
- More solid arguments for being massively stronger and more durable
- Resists or can evade Dante’s Sealing, Fear Aura, Soul Hax, and other abilities
- Abilities are less open to interpretation
- Can destroy the Yamato Shard, preventing spatial cutting and opening up Dante to BFR
- Superior Temporal abilities
- Can outlast Dante’s healing and stamina
- Resists Anti Magic
- Less cocky in combat
- = Hot
- Got into Super Smash Bros. above her opponent, and Sakurai even stated she could have potentially evaded Galeem’s multiversal genocide…
Disadvantages:
- Does not resist spatial cutting
- …But was so complex to play that Sakurai decided to have her get nuked in favor of Kirby, a simpler character
As you can tell there is a LOT going on with many different ways to interpret one statement or another. Both are essentially equal in regards to skill and experience, with Dante’s historically cocky attitude being a slight detriment in how he approaches fights. Unfortunately for the Devil Hunter, anyone even close to the strength level of Bayonetta, and his methods of working around that gap are extremely unlikely to work in the end.
Being much weaker and less durable means Dante is going to be notably reliant on his regen to stay in the game. This regen is not unlimited however, and is notably dependent on his stamina, which has been shown plenty of times to affect the speed at which he regenerates damage. With such a gap in strength Bayonetta can destroy Dante far beyond what he’s had to heal consistently, wearing him down more and more as the fight goes on. While speeds may start off even at first, Bayonetta’s usage of Witch Time can give her the edge, especially given her frequent usage of the ability compared to Dante’s time options which are nowhere near as consistently used by him. Effectively, Bayonetta can destroy Dante many many many times over, wearing him down with each regeneration until he is unable to properly heal.
With his healing not making the cut, this leaves Dante to depend on his many other weapons and abilities to make up for it. Despite having many abilities, Bayonetta has either a counter for said ability or can resist said ability. While the same can be said about Dante when it comes to Bayo’s skills, this would return the fight back to square one where he’s struggling to keep up with the massive AP and durability difference. Without any options to reliably quell the stat gap, Dante is back to relying solely on his regen, which as covered can only do so much against someone who can quite literally vaporize you in many different ways.
Many things about this fight didn’t turn out the way we expected, but ultimately the tried and true method of “hit him really hard” works too well for Bayonetta, with the Son of Sparda having no means of ultimately getting past that issue. In the end, Bayonetta just had the means to dominate this fight, leaving this devil crying for the last time.

Remaster Notes
Not too much to talk about here that isn’t pretty apparent. The primary goal here was to clean up this blog of any fabricated scans from Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat. Since those scans were the only real reason that the original blog ended up a tie, the outcome of course changed to a definitive Bayonetta win with their removal. That said, we would still like to thank all of the contributors who worked on the original blog, listed above. The creation of those fake scans and their inclusion was not the fault of those people, and they did a lot of great work on that blog that shouldn’t be overlooked because of reasons out of their control.
On a different note, while DMC is the subject of the hour, we will most likely also be remastering Nero VS Hellboy at some point in the future (though don’t necessarily expect it soon). Unlike this blog, which was more focused on removing misinformation from a blog that already existed, you can probably expect that blog to be closer to a complete reevaluation, due to a general dissatisfaction among our members as to the quality of that blog’s research and argumentation. No fake scans in that one, it was just bad. Will the verdict change? I dunno, probably. Pretty sure Hellboy is like really slow or something? We’ll see.
